maxleresistant - I faced the same issue too... I could not open a single webpage. All I got was that error message "Aw, Snap!
Something went wrong while displaying this webpage. To continue, prss Reload or go to another page."I am quite disappointed!

I have this same issue - it just started up this afternoon. I was using Chrome and it was working fine, then a site made it freeze, so I forced-closed. Now, everytime I start up Chrome, I get the Aw Snap! message. On every page. So I guess I'll just have to go back to firefox or something since it's impossible to use Chrome at the moment.
And the help is useless - I wonder if this is some sort of major error most people are facing or if we're just the lucky ones...

I start chrome, I see history. Upon clicking any page, 1 of 2 things happen. I either get a blank white page and nothing loads or I get "aw snap" error. I've tried clearing cache and also the no-sandbox trick. Neither have worked, problem only began today.

All I do when that happens is copy the address close Chrome open it back up and then paste the address and go it works every time.
|Re: Google chrome doesn't connect to websites||rizzen||1/3/09 12:10 AM|
na, I get the "aw snap" message when I try that. No spyware/antivirus running at all. firefox is a green light for everything, but I prefer chrome so any ideas? =(
|Re: Google chrome doesn't connect to websites||rizzen||1/3/09 12:13 AM|
checked event viewer, nothing. Also when I have the blank page, clicking reload brings be back to the main history site, and from there nothing loads or I recieve the "aw snap" message once again. endless circle.

I have the same problem. Chrome worked once, then stopped working. Very, very frustrating. After the first time, Chrome will load but will not connect to *any* website. (Firefox and IE both work just fine moments later.) Tried uninstalling and re-installing multiple times. It just hangs then says "Snap" after it times out. I'd love to hear about a solution.

I just downloaded Google Chrome and installed it and got the "Aw snap. Something went wrong while displaying....." error. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled. The problem persists. I would like to try this new browser, and it seems many others are having the same issue, so it would be great to get a response on this specific error at first startup!

I'm having a similar problem, but for every page, I get the message:
"This webpage is not available.
The webpage at ___ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this web page later."

Add --no-sandbox to the call line properties.

I'm using Google chrome. I also had the same problem with Google Chrome.
OS : Windows XP.
AntiVirus : McAfee 8.5.0i, which is set to use maximum protection.
While installing Picasa 3.0 I noticed that McAfee was blocking it from installing exe files in Program Files folder. This lead me to check Access Protection log of McAfee.
There I found that HTTP communication via chrome.exe is being blocked by McAfee.
I opened McAfee's VirusScan Console. Then right-clicked on Access Protection and clicked Properties.
Under Categories I found Common Maximum Protection. I selected Prevent HTTP Communication and clicked Edit button below the list.
In Processes to Exclude area i added " ,chrome.exe" at the end. Okayed all dialogs.
VOILA the Chrome worked.
Hope this method helps some of you.

In my computer I started to see that ugly worried folder-face until the whole system hanged-up.
It went to a character-based blue screen and te system indicated that the cause was: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I got good news and bad news. The good news is that i can use it and I did it by erasing the entire computer (cuz it crashed) and the bad news is that I did it by erasing the programme

I have solved this issue, however my issue is a bit different in detail but involves http connections as well.
My problem was Chrome would not connect to https pages like yahoo mail or gmail. The issue it seems was with the firewall. In the Windows Vista firewall with outbound protection enabled, the rule for Chrome would have the chrome.exe path using a switch like this %USERPROFILE%\AppData rather than c:\users\appdata . When a switch is used https stops working in Chrome. Chromes' firewall rules need a direct path to function properly that's all.

I have the same problem. Very annoying.
|Re: Google chrome doesn't connect to websites||chocolatebubblegum||3/10/09 3:29 PM|
The same thing happens to me. By any chance, did the installer encounter error 13772724? Every time i reinstall, it finds the same error, and it might be connected. IE and Firefox still work though.

|Re: Google chrome doesn't connect to websites||MyChrome||7/5/09 4:58 PM|
I know lots are being plagued by this predicament of "Error 2 (net::ERR_FAILED): Unknown error." And here is the solution I achieved in Vista Firewall. When adding a rule, Vista typically uses variables in its file path, such that the following being Chrome's rule path:
But when I convert the file path to be more "direct" like:
P.S. I am sure other OS users facing the same problem will find the above solution competent.

FIXED!! - McAfee blocked Chrome's access for some reason.
I'm running McAfee Security Center. Here's how I fixed it:
1. In McAfee Security Center, click on "Advanced Menu" at the bottom, then click "Reports & Logs"
2. In the "Recent Events" list, find an event that says something like "Program Google Chrome is blocked from access to the Internet"
3. Click on the Google Chrome event, and choose "Allow Access" under the "I want to..." menu.
4. The event should change to "Program Google Chrome is granted with full access to the internet"
5. Try Google Chrome again. It worked for me.
