i am having the same issue also on windows 7 64 bit... i have tried to reinstall chrome but that didnt help:..... it is only chrome that doesn't work because my Firefox works fine with YouTube but i prefer chrome ):

what i found strange is that the ads on Vevo worked just fine but when it got to the music video it turned green

I have the same problem with youtube videos on my new PC (HP HPE-235f - Windows 7 64-bit).  I also noticed that I can watch the ads before the video, but then the video itself is green (e.g. www.cnn.com, www.hulu.com).  I still get audio, titles and controls, just no video.  It seems to happen with Flash- and Quicktime-formatted videos.

I am having this issue too.  I don't understand why this problem would occur with Chrome, seeing that Google owns Youtube.  No other browsers suffer from this.

Same Problem here...

I've had this problem, but after a bit more searching, I've solved it.  Load up a video on YouTube, then hit pause as soon as the video starts. Now right-click on the video, choose options, then click on the first tab. Untick "Use hardware acceleration", restart your browser, and everything should be fine!:)

So, I don't know what happened, but the videos are now all playing.  I didn't change any settings or anything since my initial post on here.  Maybe there was an update.

The uncheck "use hardware acceleration" helped. Thanks! However, I found that every time when I use Google Chrome to watch youtube videos, I will have to "uncheck" it again. Is there a way for Flash plugin to remember this choice? any thoughts or comments? Thanks!

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this. Sometimes I can see a certain video and at other times not. Then everything will be ok for a while until it doesn't work again. (Like now!) And this isn't the only thing. Sometimes certain user icons come up on Flickr, sometimes they don't. Sometimes it is one person's and sometimes it is another's. Also, today I noticed that gmail and gchat pop-up notifications aren't working and aren't even listed among my settings?!? They were just working a few hours ago!

NiK-W is right. you have to right click on the screen, go to options and uncheck hardware acceleration, close and re-open the browser and it just works fine. Any idea as to why it happens considering the fact that the user hasn't voluntarily enabled the option.?

When right click on the YouTube video it doesnt display "options" and "use hardware accceleration". What's going on? Why wont this work?

I'm using the latest chrome and latest flash to date. Right click on the YouTube video: go to settings...> That'll launch another small window. If you don't see "Enable Hardware Acceleration" go to the little tab-icon things on the bottom of the window and click on the one that looks like a Monitor with a Play button on it. Uncheck the box and your youtube videos should look fine.

*****ANOTHER POSSIBLE SOLUTION*****

I had this same EXACT issue, the youtube black screen of (near) death.
I tried the disabling hardware acceleration, but that didn't help.
Read through a bunch of forums and here is the solution that fixed the black screen of (near) death for me.
I had been signed into Youtube with my actual Youtube account I created years ago.
So this is what you need to do:
-Sign out of youtube.
-Log in with your GOOGLE account username and password.
BAM! It works!!

No need to mess with plugins and what not.
