|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||jhollett||6/23/10 12:29 PM|
Hey Blair, can you look into this for me?
Chrome will not load any webpages without adding the -no-sandbox option.
Setup - Windows 7
Chrome Version - 126.96.36.1994 (45376)
None of the software listed is on my machine.
Trouble shooting steps - I have uninstalled and reinstalled both chrome and chromium. I have tried the newest dev version as well. Chrome will also not work on any other windows profile, or browser profile. Doing a system restore is not an option, as I disabled this for other testing. I have also ran many virus scans with Eset Nod 32, Super Antispyware, and Malware Bytes. All of these have turned up a clean system. IE, and Firefox both work fine. I have removed all extensions, and removed flash from the browser. This will also not work in safemode
The only way to get chrome or chromium to work is to add the -no-sandbox option to the startup target. I do not find this a valid fix, as it leaves the browser open to vulnerabilities.
I have looked high and low across the great plains of the internet, and I have not found any fix options. I do not want to have to reinstall
Please say that Google has a fix for this. If not, can someone with super powers please fashion a fix-all solution to end world hunger? Oh and Can you help me with my problem?

|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||Reaver77||6/27/10 5:01 PM|
I have the same problem as JHollet.
I have uninstalled Chrome a few times to reload but this doesnt fix the problem. Not sure what Chromium is so I dont have that.
I get a eventual error that says this website is slow or not responding asking to kill it or wait for it.
Standard comp running Vista, None of the bad software listed blah blah blah.
This happened a couple days ago, it just stopped working.
Has there perhaps been an auto-update or something that has made Chrome unstable?
Hurry and figure it out cause I dont like Firefox and HATE IE, both of which work btw.

I don't have any of those programs you mentioned. I've been having a ton of Chrome crashes on one of my computers of late. Yes, I have a lot of tabs open, and yes, I leave them open. For days. But it didn't used to be a problem. Lately, I've been getting the Aw Snap, and Whoa messages. I've been sending error reports (probably to Microsoft), but it's getting worse. I do sometime have it tell me it's going to close but it doesn't and I get a yellow bar across the top saying a plugin has crashed. Mostly Shockwave. So Chrome is having an issue with Shockwave. I don't even know which web pages are running shockwave to close them and see if it stops. I checked for spyware and viruses with Antivir and Advanced System Care. Even while I was doing that, Chrome crashed all the way and closed. This is getting annoying. I stopped using Firefox when it annoyed me over and over. Can we not get this fixed? That computer is running Win XP Sp2 or 3. I'd have to check.

Yesterdaya new McAfee update crashed my computer; I spent hours with the Dell support guys who (after a complete check of my computer) said I had a software problem. I thought it was a Vista update, but this morning realized it was a McAfee date which caused my computer to ignore all input devices. With the help of McAfee support, I uninstalled McAfee from my computer and it seems to be back to normal BUT Chrome is no longer working as it did before the crash. Specifically, I cannot play my Facebook games with Chrome running and have had to go back to IE. Chrome does not respond to my mouse or touchpad with the Flash games (when shockwave hasn't crashed as well). I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome but this has not helped. Any suggestins???

@Blair: As a fellow Vermonter (I see you once lived here) I'm literally e-grovelling asking you to check the 0xc0000022 error the second poster mentioned and get a fellow employee to look into the issue and make some posts on the numerous threads out there. As you can see from my post, quite a few people are seeing the problem (and I've only posted a small list in my thread):
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||dunderduck||8/27/10 1:13 AM|
I found the cure for the frequent crashes: I think it is because my CPU was overheating. It can apparently overheat even when the computer is just sitting there (e.g. during lunch).
I downloaded TPfancontrol ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/tp4xfancontrol/ ) and installed it on my Lenovo X61 laptop with Win XP. This automatically increases the cooling fan speed when the CPU overheats. Ever since I installed this I have not had any more Chrome crashes.
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||bruce.korb||8/30/10 10:56 AM|
Perhaps add, "Windows" to the subject for this?
I'm on Linux with the identical problem and several postings on the issue.
The problem persists. It would be easier to see this is not relevant
if "Windows" were in the title.
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||asmosoinio||9/1/10 12:49 AM|
I also experience all Chrome pluging crashing daily. I am somewhat sure it's the Norman Security Suite antivirus that's killing them, but haven't found a proper solution to the problem yet.
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||bruce.korb||9/3/10 8:54 AM|
Never mind adding "Windows" to the title. The initial issue may have been windows specific, but Google Chrome basically crashes regardless of the platform. It needs to go back to Google labs. It is not ready for prime time and there is zero support.

I uninstalled Rapport and now chrome works normally.

Just to sum up, it appears that in addition to the software in my original post, people have had compatibility issues with the following programs:
Microsoft Security Essentials
PowerWord2009 Enterprise Custom Edition
If you have any of these programs installed, try uninstalling them or not running them concurrently with Google Chrome and see if these alleviates your problem.

When you say:
To find and remove offending libraries, go to Start > Run, enter “cmd”, and check in %windir%\system32 for userlib.dll, tcpipdog0.dll, tcpipdog1.dll, and tcpipdog3.dll. If you find them, delete them.
What do you after you enter cmd? I tried typing "%windir%\system32" after C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>
but it just says "is not recognized as an internal or external, operable program or batch file? Am I missing a step?
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||REETS12542341242||10/10/10 8:24 AM|
i have been able to confirm that Chrome is having issues when VLC has a video loaded (playing or paused).
- Chrome froze up while a video was playing
- restarted Chrome and same issue
- restarted Chrome without --enabled-accelerated-compositing in the command line and it worked fine
Not sure if this indicates a Chrome issue, VLC issue, or nVidia drivers issue but something is definitely not working properly.

Roboform crashes occasionally.....for me the biggest culprit is Shockwave Flash. That crashes several times a day.

just started to get this problem and a msg from Vista,the Host Process for Windows service has stopped working,at boot up, when I try to load Chrome it would start but wouldn't do anything it wouldn't load any webpages just kept getting the loading msg, and at the same time Vista would say Host Process for windows service has stopped working, didn't think the two were related, I updated Vista and all settings, Firefox would work as was IE, only chrome wasn't, so on a hunch I uninstalled Chrome and rebooted computer and sure enough I didn't get the Host Process for Windows service has stopped working. I tried rebooting a few times before I uninstalled Chrome just to make sure it wasn't a one time Msg from Vista

I have the updated Chrome and have never had a problem with Skype until now. Now, the Skype toolbars keep crashing in Chrome AND when I go to a webpage with a phone number, Skype and Chrome spazz out and the website moves around all over the place. I know it's Chrome because I've gone to the same sites in IE and Firefox, with no problems whatsoever. I have not had the problem with earlier versions of Chrome, but now, it's bad.
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||optimistnyc||11/4/10 10:08 PM|
All this shows that Chrome can crash for any number of incompatibilities, so what is needed is a proper m,aster list of software that conflicts with Chrome and the solutions preferred in each case. Is there such a thing? It is a little ridiculous to have people sort through threads with many people and their different complaints and presumably different solutions.
There should be a page listing problems and solutions for Chrome crashing. My Chrome crashes instantly after start up, after a year or two of untroubled performance. But there has been no new addition of software.recently. I have tried to post a unique thread but got nowhere (at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=6c90316bc36a0df5&hl=en&fid=6c90316bc36a0df500049305a40a5926
Smooth sailing for a year then crash crash crash unusable).
One gets the impression that Google is too busy adding bells and whistles to worry about simple things like solving crashes, but the fact is that my work has become serious dented by the inability to use Chrome with the hundreds of bookmarks I has built up as references. Even though I was lucky enough to set up bookmark duplication and mirror them on another computer, an XP laptop, I foind that the Bookmarks Manager there has a complete blank when you ask it to manage and send the Bookmarks to an html file that could be exported to Firefox, which I now have to use.
(HP s3500 Vista 64 with current Chrome now switched to Firefox).
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||optimistnyc||11/4/10 10:10 PM|

I just installed the RoboForm for Chrome and while I love it, Chrome never crashed on me before. Now if I have several tabs with a Shockwave application running on it, the Shockwave crashes. But after opening 1 tab in Chrome, you are able to click the X in the bottom right corner and close RoboForm when you're going to be doing multiple Shockwave tabs and it doesn't crash. To start RoboForm again when you need it, just click the icon at the end of the address bar. It's easy, but still a PITB and I will be writing to Roboform about this since they didn't mention there would be a intermittent problem with these three applications working together.
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||PossumRoadkill||12/8/10 12:49 PM|
OK. I'm typing this from Firefox because my problem is when I start to type into an email reply, a forum post, a image title in photobucket, or anything on Facebook, when I get just a few words in I get the Aw Snap page. I have gone through everything in this forum and tried it all. New profile, shut off anti-virus, scanned for malware, shut down all extensions, upgraded my flash version, on and on and on and still, Chrome crashes. Guys, it's not our computers, or software, or our DNA, it's something you guys did to Chrome or something someone else has done to it. I hate to go back to Firefox because it's slow and they bug the piss out of you about updates to this that and the other, but until you guy get your crap together and get Chrome fixed, you gonna be losing a lot of people. If it lasts too long, we be gone for good. Period !
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||PossumRoadkill||12/8/10 1:01 PM|
One last thing I tried was to enable Google to receive the crash reports. I restarted my session and the same things happen in gmail that has been happening since Friday night. You guys should be getting a bunch of crash reports for everywhere. Good luck ! I'll check back in a few days and see if I can once again be a Chrome user. Oh, one more thing, my workstation at my office uses Chrome and not a single problem there. Whatever it was, happened over the weekend while my desktop was shut down.

Windows XP Media sp 2. I'd been using Chrome for some time without problems. Updated my Norton Internet Security from 2006 to 2011, and Chrome won't load properly. (I've got four 'home' pages. The tabs appear and the circling icon is there for a while, then it stops and won't go further. All pages are blank. Clicking on anything causes tabs to disappear. Task Manager claims Chrome is unresponsive.
Uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled. It worked for two or three days (rebooting daily) then the same thing. Uninstalled Chrome again, this time removing all browsing data and reinstalled. Again, Chrome worked for a few days before failing in the same way. I'm back to Firefox and Opera, but I'd really like to use Chrome. Help, please!
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||Erik Geurts||3/21/11 2:58 AM|
I can confirm from personal experience on multiple computers all running Windows Vista that Chrome will crash exactly at the time when Norman Security Suite performs its daily update. Pressing F5 (reload) in Chrome brings the browser back to the page that was being displayed before it crashed. This happened with earlier Chrome versions and still happens with the new Chrome 10.
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||Goinbigger||4/4/11 3:31 PM|
This just started for me today, I can't get on Gmail even! Also followed all of the steps above, don't have any of the offending software. Also, I can't even get to my extensions from the wrench, so if that is causing it, I can't even get to it to fix it. Tried changing the name of the user data file, still does it.
Other pages will start to load and then it will crash, this is pretty annoying.
|Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome||bruce.korb||5/27/11 10:38 AM|
So, I tried this "about:conflicts" thing. I got a completely blank page. It means one of two things:
1. there are no conflicts and there is nothing to say
2. Google Chrome doesn't know WTF is going on and is just confused.
The latter being the primary presumption.
