Software that crashes Google Chrome Blair (Googler) 6/8/10 10:57 AM
We've identified incompatibilities with Google Chrome and certain software. If you have any of the following software, you may try temporarily disabling it to see if it resolves your issue:

Venturi Firewall
WinMount
PPLive
NVIDIA network access manager
NVIDIA NTune
IS3 Anti Spyware
SpeedBit Video Accelerator
Folder Guide

Other software has incompatibilities with Google Chrome, but you may be able to solve your crash issues without disabling the entire software.

If you have Internet Download Manager (IDM), disable the 'Advanced browser integration' option within IDM (go to Options > General).

If you have NVIDIA Desktop Explorer, try removing the nvshell.dll library using the steps on this site: http://www.spywareremove.com/security/how-to-remove-dll-files/

If you have FolderSize, try the fix on this site: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2900504&group_id=127365&atid=708425

If you have NOD32 version 2.7, upgrade to the latest version of NOD32 or disable internet monitoring in NOD32 2.7.

We’ve also identified malware known to Crash Chrome.

To find and remove offending libraries, go to Start > Run, enter “cmd”, and check in %windir%\system32 for userlib.dll, tcpipdog0.dll, tcpipdog1.dll, and tcpipdog3.dll. If you find them, delete them.

You should also search for userinit32.exe, which you can remove using PrevX from this link:
http://www.prevx.com/filenames/X2120915009763329958-X1/USERINIT32.EXE.html

Blair

Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome QQFarmer 6/13/10 2:24 PM
This might be an isolated case but keep an eye on RoboForm. Recently, whenever I opened and closed the Options dialog box, settings changed or not, I would get a

"Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed." error message. I tried all the fixes I knew and all the ones I had found. Still no luck. Then I found that when I closed Roboform(one of the startup applications in my system), Chrome stopped crashing! So I uninstalled RoboForm. Finally happy surfing on Google Chrome has come back!

Frequent crashes with Google Chrome and Thunderbird on Windows 7 -32. Uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials, replacing it with Avast. So far so good. No crashes or lost profiles

Hey pwayman,

Could you provide your Google Chrome version number (type about:version into the address bar) and your Google Talk plugin and Flash plugin version numbers (type about:plugins)?

We're having trouble reproducing your issue and this will help us a lot.

Thanks,

Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome jhollett 6/23/10 12:29 PM
Hey Blair, can you look into this for me?

Chrome will not load any webpages without adding the -no-sandbox option.

Setup - Windows 7

Chrome Version - 4.1.249.1064 (45376)

None of the software listed is on my machine.

Trouble shooting steps - I have uninstalled and reinstalled both chrome and chromium. I have tried the newest dev version as well. Chrome will also not work on any other windows profile, or browser profile. Doing a system restore is not an option, as I disabled this for other testing. I have also ran many virus scans with Eset Nod 32, Super Antispyware, and Malware Bytes. All of these have turned up a clean system. IE, and Firefox both work fine. I have removed all extensions, and removed flash from the browser. This will also not work in safemode

The only way to get chrome or chromium to work is to add the -no-sandbox option to the startup target. I do not find this a valid fix, as it leaves the browser open to vulnerabilities.

I have looked high and low across the great plains of the internet, and I have not found any fix options. I do not want to have to reinstall

Please say that Google has a fix for this. If not, can someone with super powers please fashion a fix-all solution to end world hunger? Oh and Can you help me with my problem?

Hey paccaal, before switching to Avast, were you seeing "Aw Snap" messages or "Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed" messages?
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome Reaver77 6/27/10 5:01 PM
I have the same problem as JHollet.

I have uninstalled Chrome a few times to reload but this doesnt fix the problem.  Not sure what Chromium is so I dont have that.
I get a eventual error that says this website is slow or not responding asking to kill it or wait for it.

My version
5.0.375.86

Standard comp running Vista, None of the bad software listed blah blah blah.

This happened a couple days ago, it just stopped working.

Has there perhaps been an auto-update or something that has made Chrome unstable?

Hurry and figure it out cause I dont like Firefox and HATE IE, both of which work btw.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome hkcoder 6/27/10 9:33 PM
I also have one problem that it crashes to often using with Windows Vista. I tried all the things mentioned above and i reinstalled it again, but still it is crashing.

How this can be issue can be solved?

Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome Gabina 7/1/10 11:35 AM
I don't have any of those programs you mentioned.  I've been having a ton of Chrome crashes on one of my computers of late.  Yes, I have a lot of tabs open, and yes, I leave them open. For days.  But it didn't used to be a problem.  Lately, I've been getting the Aw Snap, and Whoa messages.  I've been sending error reports (probably to Microsoft), but it's getting worse.  I do sometime have it tell me it's going to close but it doesn't and I get a yellow bar across the top saying a plugin has crashed.  Mostly Shockwave.  So Chrome is having an issue with Shockwave. I don't even know which web pages are running shockwave to close them and see if it stops.  I checked for spyware and viruses with Antivir and Advanced System Care.  Even while I was doing that, Chrome crashed all the way and closed.  This is getting annoying.  I stopped using Firefox when it annoyed me over and over.  Can we not get this fixed?  That computer is running Win XP Sp2 or 3. I'd have to check.

Same issue here. The troubleshooting steps didn't resolve. Issue began after a nasty, malicious virus.

Yesterdaya new McAfee update crashed my computer; I spent hours with the Dell support guys who (after a complete check of my computer) said I had a software problem.  I thought it was a Vista update, but this morning realized it was a McAfee date which caused my computer to ignore all input devices.  With the help of McAfee support, I uninstalled McAfee from my computer and it seems to be back to normal  BUT Chrome is no longer working as it did before the crash.  Specifically, I cannot play my Facebook games with Chrome running and have had to go back to IE.  Chrome does not respond to my mouse or touchpad with the Flash games (when shockwave hasn't crashed as well). I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome but this has not helped.  Any suggestins???

ari007, thanks so much for your information!
I downloaded Malwarebytes and performed a quick scan, and it found like 20 or so items, so I removed them, rebooted my computer, and now my Google Chrome is working fine!!!!  =)
I have spent all day trying different solutions and yours was the only one that fixed the problem ;)

@Blair:  As a fellow Vermonter (I see you once lived here) I'm literally e-grovelling asking you to check the 0xc0000022 error the second poster mentioned and get a fellow employee to look into the issue and make some posts on the numerous threads out there.  As you can see from my post, quite a few people are seeing the problem (and I've only posted a small list in my thread):

Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome dunderduck 8/27/10 1:13 AM
I found the cure for the frequent crashes: I think it is because my CPU was overheating.  It can apparently overheat even when the computer is just sitting there (e.g. during lunch).

I downloaded TPfancontrol ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/tp4xfancontrol/ ) and installed it on my Lenovo X61 laptop with Win XP.  This automatically increases the cooling fan speed when the CPU overheats.  Ever since I installed this I have not had any more Chrome crashes.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome bruce.korb 8/30/10 10:56 AM
Perhaps add, "Windows" to the subject for this?
I'm on Linux with the identical problem and several postings on the issue.
The problem persists.  It would be easier to see this is not relevant
if "Windows" were in the title.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome asmosoinio 9/1/10 12:49 AM
I also experience all Chrome pluging crashing daily. I am somewhat sure it's the Norman Security Suite antivirus that's killing them, but haven't found a proper solution to the problem yet.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome bruce.korb 9/3/10 8:54 AM
Never mind adding "Windows" to the title.  The initial issue may have been windows specific, but Google Chrome basically crashes regardless of the platform.  It needs to go back to Google labs.  It is not ready for prime time and there is zero support.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome Max Zhao 9/4/10 7:04 PM
Another incompatibility report:
On Windows 7 Ent, Google Chrome crashes whenever visiting any website or minimizing the window, when "PowerWord2009 Enterprise Custom Edition" is running, with on screen translation turned on (Displays a tooltip like translation window under the mouse when it's hovering over a word). There may be some problem with its way of retrieving on screen information.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome Malacath 9/5/10 12:55 AM
I find that Trusteer's Rapport security software always has problems with chrome when chrome gets updates.
It's software that my bank pesters me to install whenever I try to log in to my account.

Recently when chrome updated to version 6 it would crash constantly. As soon as I started chrome it would crash.

I uninstalled Rapport and now chrome works normally.

If anyone has Rapport installed and is having trouble with Chrome then you should try uninstalling Rapport.

I dont know what is wrong with google chrome. I have been using google chrome since 2009 and i have never had problems. but just like two weeks ago i downloaded an 7.0 beta and tried installing it. it installed but i won't start. so i uninstalled it and reinstalled the older one but still the won't start. it crashes contantly which out even show the crash screen
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome simpleroute 9/7/10 2:36 PM
@Sojimaxi I'd recommend opening a new thread for your issue.  Try looking in the Event Log for relevant error messages and post your details in your thread.

I had exactly the same problem as QQfarmer - I shutdown the Roboform taskbar Icon which loads on startup, and magically Chrome is stable again.  It was constantly crashing complaining about Windows Data Execution Prevention.  Tried all sorts of things with DEP, none of them helped until I shutdown Roboform taskbar
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome Blair (Googler) 9/15/10 7:32 AM
Hey everybody,

Just to sum up, it appears that in addition to the software in my original post, people have had compatibility issues with the following programs:

Roboform
Microsoft Security Essentials
PowerWord2009 Enterprise Custom Edition
Trusteer's Rapport

If you have any of these programs installed, try uninstalling them or not running them concurrently with Google Chrome and see if these alleviates your problem.

Cheers,
Blair

VLC seems to freeze Chrome dev sometimes until you close VLC.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome bonnarOO 9/25/10 7:17 PM
When you say:

To find and remove offending libraries, go to Start > Run, enter “cmd”, and check in %windir%\system32 for userlib.dll, tcpipdog0.dll, tcpipdog1.dll, and tcpipdog3.dll. If you find them, delete them.

What do you after you enter cmd?  I tried typing "%windir%\system32" after C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>

but it just says "is not recognized as an internal or external, operable program or batch file?  Am I missing a step?
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome REETS12542341242 10/10/10 8:24 AM
i have been able to confirm that Chrome is having issues when VLC has a video loaded (playing or paused).

Steps:
- Chrome froze up while a video was playing
- restarted Chrome and same issue
- restarted Chrome without --enabled-accelerated-compositing in the command line and it worked fine

Not sure if this indicates a Chrome issue, VLC issue, or nVidia drivers issue but something is definitely not working properly.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome koam2 10/11/10 2:15 PM
Thanks for the info.  I don't see how I could stick with Chrome without Roboform.

Roboform crashes occasionally.....for me the biggest culprit is Shockwave Flash.  That crashes several times a day.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome jabber63 10/13/10 9:15 PM
just started to get this problem and a msg from Vista, the Host Process for Windows service has stopped working,at boot up,  when I try to load Chrome it would start but wouldn't do anything it wouldn't load any webpages just kept getting the loading msg, and at the same time Vista would say Host Process for windows service has stopped working, didn't think the two were related, I updated Vista and all settings, Firefox would work as was IE, only chrome wasn't, so on a hunch I uninstalled Chrome and rebooted computer and sure enough I didn't get the Host Process for Windows service has stopped working.  I tried rebooting a few times before I uninstalled Chrome just to make sure it wasn't a one time Msg from Vista
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome koam2 10/27/10 4:12 PM
I have the fully updated Chrome, the newest Roboform beta, and the newest Roboform Extension for Chrome.    I still get Roboform or Shockwave Flash crashing all the time in Chrome.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome taz1357 10/28/10 1:14 PM
I have the updated Chrome and have never had a problem with Skype until now. Now, the Skype toolbars keep crashing in Chrome AND when I go to a webpage with a phone number, Skype and Chrome spazz out and the website moves around all over the place. I know it's Chrome because I've gone to the same sites in IE and Firefox, with no problems whatsoever. I have not had the problem with earlier versions of Chrome, but now, it's bad.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome optimistnyc 11/4/10 10:08 PM
All this shows that Chrome can crash for any number of incompatibilities, so what is needed is a proper m,aster list of software that conflicts with Chrome and the solutions preferred in each case.  Is there such a thing?  It is a little ridiculous to have people sort through threads with many people and their different complaints and presumably different solutions.

There should be a page listing problems and solutions for Chrome crashing.  My Chrome crashes instantly after start up, after a year or two of untroubled performance. But there has been no new addition of software.recently. I have tried to post a unique thread but got nowhere (at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=6c90316bc36a0df5&hl=en&fid=6c90316bc36a0df500049305a40a5926
Smooth sailing for a year then crash crash crash unusable).

One gets the impression that Google is too busy adding bells and whistles to worry about simple things like solving crashes, but the fact is that my work has become serious dented by the inability to use Chrome with the hundreds of bookmarks I has built up as references.  Even though I was lucky enough to set up bookmark duplication and mirror them on another computer, an XP laptop, I foind that the Bookmarks Manager there has a complete blank when you ask it to manage and send the Bookmarks to an html file that could be exported to Firefox, which I now have to use.

(HP s3500 Vista 64 with current Chrome now switched to Firefox).
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome optimistnyc 11/4/10 10:10 PM
PS In other words how do I deal with a blank Bookmarks Manager display in Chrome, to move my bookmarks to Firefox if I cannot cure Chrome from crashing instantly when booted up?
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome snangia 11/25/10 9:55 AM

"NVIDIA network access manager

You're kidding... Graphics Card software conflicts with an Internet browser... You do realize that disabling it is an advanced level solution that goes over the heads of many users?
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome KathyG1960 12/6/10 4:42 AM
I just installed the RoboForm for Chrome and while I love it, Chrome never crashed on me before. Now if I have several tabs with a Shockwave application running on it, the Shockwave crashes.  But after opening 1 tab in Chrome, you are able to click the X in the bottom right corner and close RoboForm when you're going to be doing multiple Shockwave tabs and it doesn't crash.  To start RoboForm again when you need it, just click the icon at the end of the address bar.  It's easy, but still a PITB and I will be writing to Roboform about this since they didn't mention there would be a intermittent problem with these three applications working together.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome PossumRoadkill 12/8/10 12:49 PM
OK. I'm typing this from Firefox because my problem is when I start to type into an email reply, a forum post, a image title in photobucket, or anything on Facebook, when I get just a few words in I get the Aw Snap page. I have gone through everything in this forum and tried it all. New profile, shut off anti-virus, scanned for malware, shut down all extensions, upgraded my flash version, on and on and on and still, Chrome crashes. Guys, it's not our computers, or software, or our DNA, it's something you guys did to Chrome or something someone else has done to it. I hate to go back to Firefox because it's slow and they bug the piss out of you about updates to this that and the other, but until you guy get your crap together and get Chrome fixed, you gonna be losing a lot of people. If it lasts too long, we be gone for good. Period !
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome PossumRoadkill 12/8/10 1:01 PM
One last thing I tried was to enable Google to receive the crash reports. I restarted my session and the same things happen in gmail that has been happening since Friday night. You guys should be getting a bunch of crash reports for everywhere. Good luck ! I'll check back in a few days and see if I can once again be a Chrome user.  Oh, one more thing, my workstation at my office uses Chrome and not a single problem there. Whatever it was, happened over the weekend while my desktop was shut down.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome Kilsally 12/9/10 10:41 AM
Chrome crashes / slows to a crawl constantly on two different computers (although using Chrome sync) ... eventually all the pages open tabs come up with yellow error messages at top with `skype toolbar plugin has crashed` and `shockwave has crashed`  ..same on both computers - one intel & nvidia , the other amd and radeon
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome Blair (Googler) 2/3/11 10:46 AM
Hey everybody,

You can now type about:conflicts into the address bar to see if you have any software or malware that is known to conflict with Google Chrome.

Let us know if you have any feedback about this or have discovered other software that conflicts with Google Chrome.

Best,

Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome cryptic one 3/15/11 1:34 PM
Windows XP Media sp 2. I'd been using Chrome for some time without problems. Updated my Norton Internet Security from 2006 to 2011, and Chrome won't load properly. (I've got four 'home' pages. The tabs appear and the circling icon is there for a while, then it stops and won't go further. All pages are blank. Clicking on anything causes tabs to disappear. Task Manager claims Chrome is unresponsive.

Uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled. It worked for two or three days (rebooting daily) then the same thing. Uninstalled Chrome again, this time removing all browsing data and reinstalled. Again, Chrome worked for a few days before failing in the same way. I'm back to Firefox and Opera, but I'd really like to use Chrome. Help, please!
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome Erik Geurts 3/21/11 2:58 AM
I can confirm from personal experience on multiple computers all running Windows Vista that Chrome will crash exactly at the time when Norman Security Suite performs its daily update. Pressing F5 (reload) in Chrome brings the browser back to the page that was being displayed before it crashed. This happened with earlier Chrome versions and still happens with the new Chrome 10.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome Goinbigger 4/4/11 3:31 PM
This just started for me today, I can't get on Gmail even! Also followed all of the steps above, don't have any of the offending software. Also, I can't even get to my extensions from the wrench, so if that is causing it, I can't even get to it to fix it. Tried changing the name of the user data file, still does it.
Other pages will start to load and then it will crash, this is pretty annoying.
Re: Software that crashes Google Chrome bruce.korb 5/27/11 10:38 AM
So, I tried this "about:conflicts" thing.  I got a completely blank page.  It means one of two things:

1. there are no conflicts and there is nothing to say
2. Google Chrome doesn't know WTF is going on and is just confused.

The latter being the primary presumption.
