How to correct a missing plug-in? Ken Croucher 2/19/09 10:01 AM
How do I find out what's missing and how to instal it when I get a piece of jigsaw puzzle which says a required plug-in is missing?
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? †Tommy G.† 2/21/09 8:34 PM
All the way to the right of the page in the yellow box is a button that says install plugin.  Click that and it will tell you what you need.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? Ken Croucher 2/22/09 9:00 AM
I can't find a yellow box. At the far right all I can see is the spanner button at the top
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? †Tommy G.† 2/22/09 6:31 PM
Is not the jigsaw puzzle piece notice in a  yellow banner?  It is on my web pages that tell me when I need a plug-in.  It also tells me what plug-in is needed and to "click here" to get it.  I'm sorry, but I don't know what a spanner button is.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? Hitman7112 6/25/10 8:47 AM
Dont listen to Dragontatt what he said was true but hes a jerk.

I have gotten that same error so what I have done to repair it is refresh the page. Yep thats it, either that or re-install the plugin. (Probably flash player)
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? checkpointphuket 6/27/10 11:14 PM
The latest plug-in doesn't work in Chrome. In Safari, Firefox, Explorer it works

Use this version and it will work in Chrome too

Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? bertdanger 6/28/10 10:17 PM
THERE IS NO YELLOW BOX when a PLUGIN is MISSING in Google Chrome. WTF???? How can this giant company not have the obvious solution like Firefox, IE, and Safari?
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? mvmv101 6/30/10 4:59 PM
This is fucking bullshit. =] Same problem, and my fave game Smallworlds.com is based off of the FLASH PLUGIN.  When in google chrome, you should just refresh.  But in this case go to http://www.coderetard.com/2008/10/22/how-to-install-adobe-flash-plugin-for-google-chrome/
to lean how to get your problems fixed.

and btw, Dragontatt is an pain the ass jerk. =]
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? mvmv101 6/30/10 5:08 PM
My bad, Don't do that.  i checked the plug in on the site, no good.

All you need to do is close out of chrome completely. But then to ensure that the plugin and chrome do not corrupt, restart your computer. It also gives your computer a break. Flash can slow down your computer.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? whiskeysquiker 7/8/10 7:54 AM
Thank you mvmv101. Your link's instructions worked perfectly. My entire Plugins directory vanished. Just had to recreate it and copy the files to it, worked like a charm. :)
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? bertdanger 7/18/10 3:00 PM
To see your installed plugins:

1) In your address bar, type: chrome://plugins/

You can disable those that crash right there if you want. It is not a direct answer to your question but accessing the installed plugins has been handy for me.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? charding 9/18/10 9:16 AM
My problem is, as like people above have, is that it doesn't tell you what plugin is missing and there is no yellow banner on the top of the browser telling you to install X plugin.

Alternatively I went into firefox on the same webpage where I'm having a problem and it detected it and asked me to install icetea plugin, which has apparently something to do with java.

I just installed a new version of chrome
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? scarlett95501 10/13/10 12:00 PM
Thank you Bertdanger! I went to chrome://plugins/  after not being able to view any online PDF's and right there at the top was the "Chrome PDF Viewer" plugin, disabled for some odd reason. I simple clicked enable and have had no issues since! Thanks for the help!
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? Creag 10/14/10 5:06 AM
Ditto scarlett95501!

Bertdanger you legend....finally someone who gives some useful info around here

Cheers
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? bradt84 10/18/10 8:50 PM
Alternatively, you can type about:plugins in the address bar as well.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? vasa1 10/18/10 9:05 PM
And even though it may not appear intuitive, one can try
Wrench > Options > Under the Hood > Content Settings > Plug-ins (in the left panel)
and then "Disable individual plug-ins".

That option also allows you to enable individual plug-ins.

Whichever route you go, ...
If you click on the little + on the right hand in the first row, you get even more usable info.
For example, you'll see two options for Flash, two options for reading pdfs. I chose to enable the ones that come with Chrome and to disable the others.

Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? KingstonJamaica 1/7/11 6:23 AM
Type "about:plugin" without the quotations in your chrome browser address field and press enter at the top right hand of your page click details, you will then see you disabled plugins simply enable the shockwave ones and any other you deem necessary.

Disable the old Macromedia Flash and keep the new Google Flash
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-
(Making a resume for others' helpful advices)

Thanks a lot "vasa1" 19 Oct 2010 for your detailed explanation. I did it (disabling the old Macromedia Flash and keeping the new Google Flash) so I will see if it works.

Thx to "bradt84" 19 Oct 2010 for your « type "about:plugins" in the address bar », a shortcut to the spots "vasa1" pointed. Thx to "bertdanger" 18 Jul 2010 too for your "chrome://plugins", that does work as well.

Resuming it all:

- "about:plugins" in address bar, then "+ Details" in top right corner;
- locate the TWO Flash instances
- Disable the old Macromedia Flash
- Keep the new Google Flash enabled

Now please "asacider5654" and "KingstonJamaica" check and think before posting; by posting too fast you are misleading readers into wasting their time with advices that turn out as irrelevant (in facts 99% of Chrome are automatically updated without even user's knowledge, and the error has come for 3 years now even in totally updated and clean systems) or wrong and failing (missing "s").

I can't watch any Youtube videos or any videos at all. It keeps saying "Missing Plug-in"
WHY!?
By the way I am using Google Chrome and it keeps saying "Missing Plug-in"
I tried going to the Wrench and enabling Plug-ins but it was already checked as enabled.
It was working fine just two days ago...then all of a sudden it keeps saying "Missing Plug-in"
PLEASE FIX IT FIX IT FIX IT
or help me please? =] XD
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? moony6 3/17/11 12:49 PM
I had the same problem and all I had to do was restart my computer. So if you haven't done that yet, try that first, before messing with anything else.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? CoriElle 5/4/11 7:05 PM
all you need to go is go to chromes task manager ... (select the tool on the right hand side by URL bar) OR click SHIFT + ESC to bring it up

search for the "Plug-in: Shockwave Flash" and click END process

close out the task manager and refresh the URL/youtube/page link u were on and it should play fine.

try this before reinstalling anything, shutting anything down or clearing ur history or restarting your computer.

works like a charm!
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? Wran 5/13/11 5:53 PM
______________________________________________________________

This! What do you do if the plug-ins are already inabled, and yet you're STILL getting the "missing plug-in" warning? I hate Firefox, but I'll have to go back to it until Google gets this fixed. Reboots and going to about:plugins did not work. Pretty major coming from Google.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? CoriElle 5/13/11 6:03 PM
Wran did you end process the Plug In issue? My plug in was enabled as well but my above fix still worked for me once I ended the process and reloaded the page I was trying to watch my video on.

Try again. If it doesn't work I'm sorry I couldn't have been more helpful.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? iAmSomewho 5/19/11 5:31 AM
after i reinstalled my chrome. i couldnt play flash games because of fucking MISSING PLUGIN. i tried to download Adobe Flash Player but it said its already installed in my browser. I also tried the about:plugins and it didn't work. what the fuck am i going to do?
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? aqk 5/29/11 9:25 AM
I have the same thing.
Using -
Chromium        11.0.696.68 (Developer Build 84545) Ubuntu 11.04
WebKit        534.24 (trunk@80534)
V8        3.1.8.14
User Agent        Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/534.24 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu/11.04 Chromium/11.0.696.68 Chrome/11.0.696.68 Safari/534.24
Command Line         /usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end
 ----------------------------
There is NO flash plug-in for Chromium.   My Firefox AND Empathy browsers work quite well with Flash.  But
HOW do I add this to Chromium?
AFAIK, there is no "ADD PLUGIN" facility anywhere in this damn browser!  I cannot even enable the standard menu line, which Google seems to have cleverly repressed.
Flash?  I guess its back to Firefox and Empathy for me. Empathy is a case in point- it's rough around the edges, but it's already working better than Chrome.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? aqk 5/29/11 9:28 AM
And yes,  do not advise me to "go under the hood".  There are six or seven add-ons here all enabled. But sadly there is no Flash.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? aqk 5/29/11 9:44 AM
Grrr...  OKAY. Problem fixed.
Here's what I did:
From Ubuntu software center, I uninstalled Flash.
Then re-installed it.
Then opened Chromium.  Now the Flash plug-in seems to be there.
But there really should be a "add Plug ins" somewhere in this bass-ackward browser.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? aqk 5/29/11 9:46 AM
Addendum-
Will Silverlight... umm, "Moonlight" work as a Chrome plug-in?  Or is this not dreamed of in the Google world?
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? xEM1N3Mx 6/8/11 4:58 PM
I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!!!!
I looked at all of these posts and none worked. All you have to do is go to the top right corner of your screen and there will be a button with a wrench on it. Click it. Click: About Google Chrome. Then click: Relaunch. Google chrome will close out. Wait a minute and then bring it back up. When you restart google chrome it gives you an automatic update. Its simple. Then just go on youtube and see if it works.

Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? Sie_Deen 7/22/11 5:17 PM
Hi everyone,

If you are still having the Flash missing plug-in error, please type "about:plugins" in your address bar.  Click the + icon on the top right, so that you can see all details.
Check if you have the Flash plug-in enabled.

Some of you may have two Flash plug-ins; one that is integrated with Chrome by default, and the second that is on your computer, which you may have downloaded previously.
Please refer to Ref[1] if you need to disable the Flash plug-in.

To learn more about plug-ins in general, please see Ref[2].

Best,
Sie Deen

Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? zeeshan.khan 12/27/11 7:04 AM
How can developers get around with this?
Does Google think we should paste a label on our websites asking end users to first break their head into this funny freaky exercise?
The standard code that runs on all major browsers says MISSING PLUGIN on chrome. Nothing else. Not even a link to update the flash plugin.
This is totally gross and pathetic. End user who is not comfortable with these things will blame none but the developers.
Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? zeeshan.khan 12/27/11 7:11 AM
Check the comment by "checkpointphuket".
That method works perfectly and seamlessly. Real help for developers. Thanks :)
Here is the code again:

Re: How to correct a missing plug-in? paradoxguy 1/29/12 6:35 PM
CoriElle-

Your advice to remedy the missing plug-in for YouTube videos in Google Chrome is spot-on and very helpful--it works for embedded YouTubes in other sites as well.  Before reading it, I had routinely rebooted my PC, so your suggestions have saved me much labor.  I passed on your suggestions to my brother-in-law whose career is PC-based, and he also found the advice very useful.

Thanks much,
PG

Go to address bar and type about:plugins look for flash, does it look like this (2 flash), expand the +details and disable the version with the AppData/Chrome in the path. Make sure only one flash is enabled. Close you chrome browser then open it again and the videos should play fine as there is a conflict between the different flash versions. You will no longer receive updates to flash player in chrome so visit the adobe update page now and then to get updates.

Hi everyone,

We've improved the plug-in error to identify which plug-in is missing a few months ago, and you shouldn't see a generic "missing plug-in" no longer. As a result, I'm going to close this thread since it's outdated. Thanks!
