Missing tools menu options: Task Manager, Clear Browsing Data Apolaustic 11/5/09 9:07 PM
For some reason, my installation of Chrome is missing menu options; specifically Task Manager and Clear browsing Data. I've looked in all the other categories to see if those options were hidden somewhere else, but they were not. I then reinstalled Chrome, figuring it was a bad installation. The options still weren't there.

The functions appear to still be there and work fine; at least, I can access the task manager through the keyboard shortcut. I haven't been able to find a shortcut to clear my browsing data, though, and I'd really like to do that. Plus, I'd definitely prefer for my copy of Chrome to be complete.

Google Chrome version: 4.0.223.11
Operating System: Ubuntu (Intrepid Ibex)

Yes, mine is missing the Clear Browsing Data option as well.  Was there yesterday, today it's gone.  You can still access Clear Browsing Data by Ctrl+Shift+Delete.  Still, it's annoying.  Anybody know what's going on?

Thanks, Blakesmore. It's great to be able to empty my cache, at least.

If there's anyone with further advice/comments, we'd love to hear from you.

They moved it into Wrench >> Options >> Personal Stuff >> Clear Browsing Data...

I liked how it was so quick to get to before. Now... it's almost as big of a process as IE!

PS: Task Manager is moved to: PAGE thing >> Developer >> Task Manager

Ditto for me. I'd prefer the Clear Browsing Data to be as easily accessible as possible. It's now too many menus down to suit me. I wouldn't mind a button for it right up on the toolbar! BTW, I didn't sign up for the 4.0 Beta, so how did I get it (is it already out of Beta or, more likely, is everyone now a Beta tester)?

I'm noticing the same thing but the ctrl-shift-delete short cut still brings up the relevant dialogue, so no big deal?

But why remove it?

@taylorad, exactly my thinking.

Here's my conspiracy theory:
perhaps clearing browser data has a negative impact on something that Google tracks (specifically, Adwords or Adsense?) and is trying to prevent users from being able to easily clear browser data???

I use it so often - would like a button on the main page - mistake to hide it.

Click&Clean add-on have all features all you mentioned above:

1. Clear Browsing Data (also it is possible when chrome closes)

2. ClearUI feature, 1-click close all tabs and more.

3. Task Manager & Cache Viewer.

Dropping Chrome, going back to FireFox

Thanks Mixe!  I will install immediately.  Perhaps Google could make this add-on more visible.  I am sure more of us are missing our button!

tak1lema, I did the same thing. I'm using chrome on a school computer only because the network is already stupid slow and I don't need my browser getting in the way. However at home I don't have that problem and use Firefox.

Chrome devs, give us back clear browsing data under the tools menu.

Same problem--I miss the TOOLS tab. To give me an easy solution put an INTERNET OPTIONS shortcut on my desktop making the deleting of my browsing etc. simple.

Where is the "Tools" option?  Unable find answer in this forum. Have second thoughts about Chrome -- faster perhaps but not user friendly like Firefox.

ranasircar, are you running windows, lunux or Mac
If not mac then there should be a spanner icon to the right of the address bar. click that. thats the tools menu

This is what I had :The problem is when you click on options nothing happens. Im running windows 7 64bit. This only started recently for no apparent reason. I have reinstalled it about 4 times sense nothing is fixing it. There is no explanation anywhere I look.

What fixed it for me: I had dual monitors, one laptop and a monitor.   I had left the options on the extra monitor when i was using chrome. When I was on my laptop and didn't have the other monitor plugged in tried to access the options it showed it open but it was no where to be found on the screen. So recently I decided to go back to chrome and try the options while i had the dual monitor plugged in. And there it was. Google Chrome had remembered the location from last time but did not take into count that that space didn't exist all the time because I would take my laptop around the house.

Hope this helps.

Lack of clear-cache shortcut is the issue that's tipping me back toward FF. Huge advantage in FF that I can clear cache with two motions (Ctrl-Shft-Del + Enter) compared to Chrome (Ctrl-Shft-Del + *move mouse* to "Clear Browsing Data" button + close tab; it's having to move the mouse that gets me).

Only reason I wouldn't go back to FF is that the most noticeable feature of the new FF is a replication of Chrome's dreadful pop-up in the lower-left corner of the loading URL. How on earth does a feature like this get past the usability testers in both FF and Chrome? The appearance of the loading URL triggers attentional capture, i.e. draws the user's gaze automatically and involuntarily to the lower left corner...enormously distracting. Enormously exasperating, too, in that attentional capture is a basic impossible-to-overcome reflex and I DO NOT want to be reminded every few minutes that I am a sentient being attached to a perceptual system over which I have only limited control.
