Chrome is unable to open webpages after my computer was infected with antimalware doctor justinl9977 4/20/10 5:50 PM
My laptop was infected with the rogueware "Antimalware Doctor" which crashed my laptop several times.  I have removed the malware according to the following website: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-antimalware-doctor but now Chrome will not open any website or resolve the New Tab page.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome but the problem still persists.

Any advice would be great!

Operating System: WindowsXP

I have the EXACT same problem.  Employee at my store fell for the fake virus warning box and installed Antimalware Doctor - I removed it successfully but now Chrome refuses to load any website.  Tabs just say "Loading...." until Chrome crashes.  I've had to got back to IE.  I hope someone will answer this.

I just had the same thing happen last night. I removed the malware and then Chrome wouldn't open any pages and kept giving me the error 102 message.  I think I've got mine to work now though.  Maybe you all can try what I did:

In Chrome, go to options. Click on the 'Under the Hood' tab and click on change proxy settings.  Then click on LAN settings, check the 'automatically detect settings' box and uncheck the 'use a proxy server...' box.  This made Chrome work for me again.

Hope it helps!

My desktop was infected last night from the same Doctor, got it removed with Ad-Aware but like everyone, my Chrome isn't working as it should, it doesn't open anything..
I've tried JShomp24 tip but I already have it uncheked. I would appreciate if anyone got any other solution/tip.

I continue to follow this thread; tried the proxy setting trick - it was not checked so had no effect.  I'm left with IE and Safari at this point; a real shame Google doesn't care to resolve this.

Yep...same problem here too.
I had a malware problem on a PC which was completely removed.  I thought that installing Chrome and using it as default browser would be the right thing to do make PC safer.

I have installed Chrome but it just wont load any page at all....just sits at "Loading..." before a window comes up telling me the page has died.  IE8 is working fine on this PC.  Hve unistalled/reinstaleld 3 times...no good.

Kind of surprised when haven't got a sollution for this yet.  Do people from Google actually frequent and help users on these forums or are we left to the mercy of random people offering ideas?  Do Google actually care?

PS: Can't be certain that the malware attack and the action I took to remove it has anything to do with whether Chrome works or not on this PC.

I have the same problem before, you guys can try all this method.

1. Disable or add exception for chrome in firewall, anti-virus or whatever protection you have. try chrome.
2. Uninstall and re-install chrome.
3. Download and use the tdsskiller.exe to remove the tdss rootkit. http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684
4. If chrome still doesn't work, try this. Go to C:\Users\"user"\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\User StyleSheets then rename the Custom.css to anything u want. then try chrome again.

Gud Luck..

I had the same problem with Chrome after removing the rogue antivirus soft. Downloading and running the tdss root kit remover solved the problem for me. I didn't need to un / reinstall  Chrome.  http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.zip

A quick test: Try downloading TDSSKiller, if your working browser crashes (both Firefox and IE in my case) you know you've got a problem! Aparently the malware recognised its nemesis, because I had to rename the file in order to download it, and since Windows Explorer would not respond, access the archive via the command line. I extracted the .exe, ran it, and a quick restart later I'm back on Chrome!

I had the anti malware doctor virus load twice for me once on XP and once on windows 7, both times while browsing using chrome. The second time, windows 7's UAC stopped it from spreading, but whatever infections that were already found, were all under google chrome's cache (proving the point that it came via chrome). Anybody else seen this?

Use system restore, and go back to whatever restore point is available prior to the infection. If Chrome is still not running, go back to the previous restore point, and reinstall Chrome.

After Nortons360 didn't stop antimalware doctor virus on windows 7 (boo hiss) as soon as I saw it I stoped it in task manager followed the steps to remove in regedit did a full scan in nortons 360 - ran the latest superanti virus and got rid of it (apparently) shut down overnight, restarted to see what the damage was and although it seemed kinda ok, I could not run windows update, my windows explorer played up, my chome was not working and comp was really slow and twice go blue screen to say com shutting down to save data & whatever else it said (not there long enough to read it), When I came accross Slayoungunner solution for chrome and faiyaz44 said the TDSS killer fixed the win update as well I gave it go - can't say thank you enough - it fixed all of these problems - I have updated, google works fine and my comp is back to full speed SO VERY BIG THANK YOU SLAYOUJNGUNNER and FAIYAZ44

After downloading and then running the TDSSKiller, the install gets to 80% completed then stops. I then get an error saying, "TDSS rootkit removing tool has encountered a problem and needs to close." I even tried changing the file name as one person suggested but had the same result. Any tips?
