On Google Chrome browser:
then "Under the Hood"
under "Web Content"; click "Language and spell-checker settings..."
last there should be a pop-up window called "Languages and Input" where you can choose your preferred GC browser language.
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||Adashpavel||5/16/11 2:35 AM|
i must have the latest version of chrome and i dont see any pop up with 'languages and input'.
Having explored all options after clicking the 'wrench' there does not seem to be a way to stop my browser choosing the wrong language.
So recently in spain, google searches and web pages where served up in spanish.
Nice one google, real nice. thanks. not.

Same problem here. Did the designers assume that 100% of the people in any given country have the exact same native language? This is poor software design at its best.
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||thewanax||6/7/11 12:05 PM|
I can get to the Options > Under the Hood > Web Content > Languages and spell-checker settings... page, but it will not save any changes. Was able to click in and Add Greek, and when I click the "Display Google Chrome in this Language" button, it tells me to close all windows and restart Chrome. So, I do, but it's always back to English (United States) no matter what. Now, in all fairness, I usually want it in English, but the feature is flat-out not working.
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||PatricMan||6/9/11 8:01 PM|
Yes, very hard when you get to chrome://settings/advanced and all is displayed in Japanese, just because one live in Japan. Can someone please include a screenshot of where to click to make all in English. I'm going to uninstall Chrome now and re-install in English and see if this helps. Very poor thought through from Google :(
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||thewanax||6/10/11 1:26 PM|
mine finally kicked over the next morning, so there must be some Chrome process that continues to run even after closing all browser instances
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||Boonhuei||8/3/11 6:06 PM|
type this in your chrome URL
this is where you select your languages
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||captainubend||8/9/11 9:10 AM|
The only way I found to do this was to uninstall Google Chrome and then redownload it and reinstall it, making sure that you download the Engish version. When you search for the download link it will redirect you to Google search for the country you are in, so you have to click the "Google.com in English" link first. Then search for a link to download Chrome and you should find the right version. The option of adding languages in the "Under the Hood" section seems to be hit and miss at best. When I installed English, having originally installed in Spanish, it simply told me "Google Chrome no se puede mostrar en este idioma" and "No se puede usar este idioma para el corrector ortográfico".
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||b2thewalls||9/19/11 4:27 AM|
this is the ONLY reason I did not bother to use google chrome for so many years, I could not find where to change the language. I live in Thailand, my ability to read thai is somewhat limited, and when I installed chrome, it automatically opens up in thai language. I tried to follow the instructions given here, but have not yet been able to solve the problem.
WHY ON EARTH does not google have the possibility to change or chooose language so both a native speaker, AND an english speaker can have a fair chance to choose what language he/she wants???!?!?!??!
GRRR! VERY FRUSTRATING
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||b2thewalls||9/19/11 4:31 AM|
Captainubend, I tried several times to uninstall and choose english version, download and reinstall, but not even that seems ti work. Reading you post, makes me wanna give it a last shot.
Do I need to say I am not particularly fond of choosing the language automatically and make it impossible to switch to english?
Chrome I think you have lost thousands of users because of this stupid solution...
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||b2thewalls||9/19/11 5:13 AM|
I un installed again, went to google.com, and downloaded another version, threw the old thaiversion chrome out in the trash, installed the new one, and voila!!!
THE SAME FUCKING THAI LANGUAGE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||b2thewalls||9/19/11 5:17 AM|
Boonhuei, I have found the page where I can "choose" langauge, I choose "อังกฤษ" which is english in thai, and then I close the browser, and re open it, and voila, its thai language again!!! Google, if someone did not yet tell you, this is automatic chooose a language thing is BAD BAD BAD
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||b2thewalls||9/19/11 5:18 AM|
I give up for now again, maybe I will try your browser again in a few years...
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||TiberiuC||10/10/11 11:50 PM|
for those of you that wanted to change the language of your www.google.[country] can do this by following this link http://www.google.de/preferences?hl=en . Here you can find the options for displaying the google page in different languages
Hope it helps!
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||PatricMan||10/12/11 10:56 PM|
If third-party cookies are deactivated, one must first activate them to make preference changes effective. Thus as long as my browser operates in Japanese (for reasons unexplained) just because I access my machine from Japan, one cannot make changes to cookie settings. So TiberiuC, you might be correct but then again, your suggestion doesn't work.

|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||ken.m.tran||3/11/12 8:24 AM|
I got the same problem. All the sudden I was working in English and my browser changed to Vietnamese. I tried all suggestions but none worked. Even removed it on my Mac and reinstall. No buzz.
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||ken.m.tran||3/11/12 8:25 AM|
And another thing... Command+X/C/V do not work either because it's in a different language. Frustrating for someone who use shortcuts. I'm forced to switch to Firefox.
|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||C85||3/22/12 9:51 PM|
Changing languages in google chrome from a different language. It isn't google chromes fault (for the most part), as I discovered. It's to do with the COMPUTER SETTINGS. I'll try to explain what to look for as I understand looking at "words" don't work in different languages
Control Panel - Look for the "Globe" icon to change language. The caption for the icon would be "country and language" roughly translated. The "Globe" looks spherical (the ones we're used to seeing in school with a single rounded spine to hold it up). Double click.
A screen will pop up. Don't switch pages. The highlighted part will be language options.
Here, you'll HAVE TO KNOW what the word "English" looks like in your ill-informed language. Click on the down arrow button and find "English" Click on "English".
It won't hurt to change your "country" too. At the bottom of said pop up window you'll see another down arrow button, you can try and change your country. But you'll have to know what your country name is in that language - I can't really help you there. Do a quick dicitionary search or something. This step isn't 100% necessary.
Restart Chrome. If that didn't work, go here:
In the light blue window box at the bottom left is a "add language" button. Click on it. Find the word "English" in the ill-informed language (again, you'll have to know what it looks like). Add. That should work.
If it don't work, I'm sh*t out of ideas for you guys. lol
PS - PLEASE click on the up arrow if you found this helpful - for everyone else that are in the same situation (and not to glorify myself - but that's cool too! haha)

if only it was this simple, millions of user wouldn't be asking:
Wrench -> Options -> Advanced -> Change Fonts and language settings -> Language?
As soon a new page is opened it is again in local language, no matter what many do, even if ALL the cookies are enabled, most of the time not unnderstood by chrome/google anyway.
Google was perfect until the geolocation and local language options screwed it up. There should be an English only version.

This option is only for spell-checker. It is clearly written there. My Chrome appears in english, but all google websites (web search, images, youtube etc.) appear in hindi.

|Re: How do i set language of Chrome browser to English||Dan Wozniak||11/13/12 1:20 PM|
The crux of the problem:
There is no way to over-ride the language priority sent in the Accept-Language header.
It seems adding the language via "Change Fonts and language settings" does add the language to the Accept-Language header. However, the highest priority is *always* given to the window manager's language preferences (in my case Gnome3). I searched for almost an hour trying to find a way to change the language priorities and it is nowhere to be found. Not even in the deepest darkest corners of the developer tools.
In the end I ran my test using FireFox since it took only a minute to find the setting, change the setting, run my test, and revert the setting.
