[Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Google Chrome Guide1 12/8/08 10:05 PM
Hi all,

Thanks for all the reports of issues using Hotmail. We've been hard at work and have developed a fix for this in our developer build. You can test it out by downloading the developer build from here http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel/ or you can wait until the next time your Google Chrome automatically updates.

If you do choose to test out the developer build, you'll have to add the following to the shortcut you use to launch it (include a space before --user-agent):

--user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19"

Let me know how that works out for you all!

Cheers!
Shawn

Yea, it is a really long string to add to your shortcut. Please note that this is only a temporary workaround and we're still working on a better solution. Stay tuned and I'll keep you guys updated.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix lint 12/9/08 3:10 AM
thanks, just checked to see if my Chrome is up-to-date. Chrome says it is: -0.4.154.29. is that right? I ask because on going into Windows Live Hotmail and trying to edit an email the problem recurs i.e. edit is not available.

Thanks.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Tegenaria 12/9/08 3:40 AM
Works fine here.  Changing the user agent string fools Hotmail into believing that Chrome is another browser.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Schmagagled 12/10/08 2:03 AM
I'm using 0.4.154.33 and I have the same problem. I didn't have this problem a week ago. I use Hotmail in "classic" mode only. Everything was working fine up until about 4-5 days ago and then all of a sudden, no selecting emails, no editing, nothing works except closing the tab and launching IE6 to view and edit mail.

I'm already using DEV mode. I'm not sure that many people would want to add that long user agent string to the shortcut they use to launch Hotmail. Is this the permanent fix? I hope not!
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Anagua 12/10/08 2:36 AM
Same opinion as user Schmagagled.

Before 0.4.154.33 i only could select emails. After 0.4.154.33, nothing works on hotmail. I'm not on classic view.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix lint 12/10/08 7:14 AM
I tried initiating Chrome and passing the string " --user-agent...."  This resulted in being able to successfully create NEW emails but unable to do anything else in hotmail. Disasterous (back to ie).
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix grumbley 12/10/08 8:45 AM
"I'm not sure that many people would want to add that long user agent string to the shortcut they use to launch Hotmail. Is this the permanent fix? I hope not!"

I think it means to add the string to the shortcut that starts Chrome, not the shortcut to www.hotmail.com...anyway, that's what i did and it works great now.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix martinette 12/10/08 5:36 PM
Fix worked on this end.  Thanks.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix csherman 12/10/08 6:10 PM
Grumbley's right, copy the add on,  right click on your chrome short cut, click "properties",  and paste the add on to the end of the "target" (leaving a space at the end of the target before pasting). Everything seems to work as it should after that.....
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Anagua 12/11/08 2:35 AM
Oh thanks grumbley... I only understood now.

I totally agree with you, for a normal user, that doesn't understand much, editing an icon just to fix hotmail bug... bah..
This must be a fix without user have to edit/change anything...

PS: Maybe i will sugest to change the Spell checker.. I write in Portuguese and English forums. As me(foreigner languages) that have to write in 2 or more languages should be a easier way to change the language spell checker.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix ai9w 12/11/08 10:39 AM
I was under the impression that the next build (the non-beta) would have the fix in it, but alas, NO!  Still doesn't allow editing.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix billybraga 12/11/08 12:01 PM
I've got version 0.4.154.29 (maybe that's the problem) but when I use chrome with the --user-agent thing added, I can write emails (I can't if I do not add the thing), but I can't open emails (when I click on the email, nothing happens), nor add attach files (which I can do without the --user-agent thing added)!?!
Also I'm not sure how to update versions?
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix JimmyC 12/11/08 4:15 PM
Thanks everyone ... I just want to check the syntax as windows says the path is invalid, this is how I write it:

"C:\Documents and Settings\james\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe  --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19"

PS .. I am putting a space before "--user-agent" it just doesn't appear to show it here.. thanks
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix nrafferty 12/12/08 2:30 AM
Can I ask what may seem to be an obvious question?
Why the **** did Google develop a browser that doesn't work with Hotmail?
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix keshari 12/12/08 12:25 PM
Its just the hotmail which is having problems, only after their new upgrade. Nothing to do with chrome.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix carlmgva 12/12/08 7:09 PM
Thanks for the temporary fix!  However, I'm not confident enough to go messing about adding bits & pieces of code, so I will wait patiently for the next iteration of Google Chrome.  In the meantime, I'll be reading incoming stuff via Chrome, but doing answers via Internet Explorer & Hotmail.  Yeah, I know it's an extra step right now, but I do have the satisfaction of getting at least partially around Microsoft's highandedness.
Carl
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix certelli 12/13/08 6:01 AM
this is actually no help at all.  how about a fix that doesn't require me to be a tech nerd.  okay, i'll just switch back to my old browser.  i find chrome kind of annoying.  nrafferty:  great question!
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Anagua 12/13/08 7:13 AM
JimmyC you are "eated" the char " in wrong place.

it sould be "C:\Documents and Settings\james\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"  --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19"

But i guess with this new version it wont be necessary to put this string.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Lynaila 12/14/08 5:41 AM
Hi everyone! I've been experiencing the same problem so I tried the bug. At first I thought the problem was fixed but it wasn't. Now I can't attach files. Can't hotmail be fooled into thinking Chrome es Firefox instead of Safari? Because I really need to attach files...
Any ideas?
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix jesusC2012 12/14/08 2:32 PM
Hello, and yes, the fix works very good for Hotmail. Also, I would like to add for those like me that use Joomla environments, that the fix allows you to post articles.

Thanks for the fix.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix martinette 12/15/08 1:30 PM
Hello, this fix worked for me previously.  Now it does not.  I cannot open messages or select anything in the Hotmail interface.  I'm using the Dev version 1.0.154.36.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Enkay 12/17/08 3:52 AM
Using this fix I can now write a new message, but I can't click on messages in my inbox to open them.

Is Microsoft trying to block Chrome on purpose? I find it weird that by making hotmail believe I was using safari, all of a sudden the text box to write messages works.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Brownie 12/17/08 8:40 AM
I just switched to Chrome and am having the same problems with Hotmail.  I did the fix but like Enkay, can't open messages in the inbox.  I see the posts started on 12/09/2008, is this when the problem started, or has it been from the inception of Chrome?
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Jweiner 12/18/08 7:14 AM
I have the same problem as Brownie above. Before the fix, I could click on a mail message and read it in my reading pane.  i just couldn't reply or compose messages.

I added the fix and now I cant even click on mail messages and my reading pane is empty.  it doesn't even show the contents of the first message which it is highlighted on.

Removing the fix reverts it back to its previous state.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix martinette 12/18/08 3:29 PM
Dearest Google: Enkay, Brownie, and Jweiner are describing the current state of affairs on the Hotmail fix.  Any help?
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Nashira 12/19/08 4:39 AM
same here, I hope this problem will be fixed soon
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Shawn (Googler) 12/19/08 12:56 PM
Hey guys,

We know this is an issue affecting a lot of you guys and know that the long string is not a permanent solution. We've notified Microsoft about the issue.

For those of you who can't get the string to work, sometimes the copying functionality leaves off a bit of the string and you may have to manually add the tail end to it so that the full string is:
--user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US)AppleWebKit/525.19
(KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19"
Can you verify if that works or not?

Thanks,
Shawn
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix lienaud 12/20/08 8:59 PM
I don't know how to add the string as I don't have a shortcut of this browser and I'm tech challenged these days.
My hotmail is not working. I have to send messages in the subject field to communicate.
Does Chrome not have the capability of autofill either? I loved having forms filled out for me.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Chromaniac2 12/20/08 9:10 PM
form filling is a feature that is planned for future :)
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Basheer 12/21/08 1:57 AM
That string did not work for me, any other way to compose new mail in Hotmail?!
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix bravefencer 12/21/08 11:50 AM
I'm updated to the fullest version and I tried to attach the string like you mentioned to the target pathway and it says it's not valid after I do so. And I've made sure to attach the whole thing.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix adviceplease 12/21/08 12:38 PM
I tried " --user-agent...."  The result of this was being able to create "New" emails only, no other functions (Inbox, Delete, Folders etc) work in msn. Very disappointing.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix tatroyer 12/21/08 9:49 PM
Shawn,

The problem might be two fold.  On my desktop I have Chrome 1.0.154.36 and on my laptop I have 1.0.154.39 ( I think that I got this because of my Dev selection ).

My desktop (with or without the added string) - I can open messages, but can not write new messages
My laptop ( with the added string ) - I can not open message ( or write new ones, since nothing that I click on will open )

Hope this helps find a solution.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix tatroyer 12/22/08 4:31 PM
The newest version (with and without the extra user-agent info) still does not work for mail.live.com

My browser info from entering    ABOUT:  in the address bar

Without User Agent info:
Google Chrome        1.0.154.42 (Official Build 7335)
WebKit        525.19
V8        0.3.9.3
User Agent        Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/1.0.154.42 Safari/525.19

With User Agent info:
Google Chrome        1.0.154.42 (Official Build 7335)
WebKit        525.19
V8        0.3.9.3
User Agent        Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Gareth2097 12/23/08 9:21 AM
Worked a treat for me...thanks chaps.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix mr.mbean 12/23/08 10:58 AM
Everything working in hotmail now.  Funny thing is the change in the shortcut on my Taskbar did not work until  I changed the shortcut on the desktop as well.

After that, I took out the change on the desktop tested using that shortcut and hotmail did not work (obviously).  The shortcut on my Taskbar still had the change and it now works.

Thank you.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix tatroyer 12/23/08 5:39 PM
Ok, after a bunch of messing around, I have a solution for me.  I hope this helps someone else.

I was able to get mail.live.com to work with adding the user agent to the latest build of chrome, but I did not want my main chrome to always show as something other than chrome.  So here is my solution;

1. go to mail.live.com
2. From the "Control the Current Page" ( icon left of the wrench ), did a "Create application shortcuts" for the desktop
3. Change that link to include the user-agent string.

So now I have a Live Mail short cut on my desktop to check my msn mail.

or you can make a copy of the chrome short cut and add the following:

  --app=http://mail.live.com  --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.1"

Hope that helps someone :-)
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Rapube 12/26/08 7:59 AM
Well, in my case that string works only to compose new messages in Hotmail but not if I want to reply to a message.
I have Chrome 1.0.154.36
Any recent news ?
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix fibrs86 12/29/08 6:55 PM
The mobile version of hotmail works fine, so you can always use that to reply.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Todmeister 1/3/09 1:20 PM
Thanks Google :) I've been wondering about this problem for a while, thought it was just something I'd have to sit out until Hotmail got it's act together and recognised Chrome. I just closed all windows, inserted it after the address (outside the quotation marks) and shazam, it worked.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix jewittenator 1/5/09 1:59 AM
Can tatroyer's solution work with a bookmark on the Chrome bookmark bar I wonder?
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix sla797 1/8/09 4:40 PM
Shawn,

I can't tell you how frustrating this is mate! I've checked my version, pasted the additional string (including the bits that get chopped off), closed all chrome windows, restarted the amended shortcut and now Hotmail is even more hamstrung, with no emails opening at all! I see this symptom listed by several people with no suggested solution. How ling before this is fixed? Please don't make us go back to IE! Please.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix ekim668 1/8/09 4:57 PM
Hi Shawn,

Great instruction, works a treat, only thing is all text in  message body field is highlighted by default - no major just thought you might like to know.

Cheers
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix timbo42 1/9/09 5:10 PM
hotmail is broken again, don't update!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix new2va 1/9/09 5:18 PM
Why then can I not get the shortcut to SAVE with the additional string???????????
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix tatroyer 1/9/09 5:48 PM
New Google Chrome 2.0 working with additional user-agent string for Hotmail. (mail.live.com)
I can now Open email, create new emails, delete emails.

Add the following to the Google Chrome shortcut on the desktop:
( Right Click icon, select properties, add below AFTER the .exe"  )

   --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.1"

So it should look like:

"C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"   --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.1"

Make sure you have the all the quotes.

How to get the Google Chrome 2.0 pre-beta:

http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/01/google-chrome-20-pre-beta.html

How to tell what version you are running:

From the Chrome About Page
( Type:   "About:"  without the " (quotes) in the address and hit enter  )

My current Info:

Google Chrome        2.0.156.1 (Official Build 7653)
WebKit        528.8
V8        0.4.6
User Agent        Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.1

I hope this helps someone. :-)

Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix tatroyer 1/9/09 5:57 PM
One note about the New Google Chrome 2.0

This NO LONGER works:

From my previous post on 12/23/2008:

<blockquote>

Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix JB1708 1/11/09 11:08 AM
At first I couldnt reply to any mails, same story bla bla...
so I just updated the browser to 1.0.564.43, and now i can't even open/read any mails in my inbox?!! wth?
Im really annoyed by this, hotmail is useless in Chrome now..
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix number1kt 1/12/09 6:17 AM
Used the properties fix, it seems to be working for now. Thanks a lot!
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix bonniesstampin 1/12/09 6:21 AM
I'm frustrated.  First the 'send mail' thing stamped workin in hotmail after their conversion in the fall, and of course there is NO tech support.  I tried to move all of my stuff to a gmail account, but that didn't work as directed, and I've been re-typing all of my contacts in one by one.  Now, as of this morning, I can't even open the items in my inbox in hotmail.  I no longer use the account as my main email, but there are still some items that go to the account since I've used it for many years, and I'd like to read them to see if they are important.  Is there any kind of easy fix out there in the works?  I even resorted to opening Internet Explorer and trying to access the account, but after the long wait, all I got was a blank screen.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix boohoolu 1/12/09 12:29 PM
This worked well for me (1-12-09) but I had to restart my computer to have it take effect.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix SmartDesi 1/12/09 9:11 PM
Is there ANY update on why Hotmail is so broken in Chrome...

This would be a deal breaker ta the moment, many folks at work are also planning to stop using Chrome...

This needs fixed ASAP !!!!
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix _raVen_ 1/12/09 9:42 PM
Using version - Google Chrome        2.0.156.1 (Official Build 7653)
Followed previous advice and created shortcut and tried editing the target, however there appears to be a limit in the target so it cuts off the last 3 characters so took the Safari reference out completely. Restarted and tried the shortcut and it brings up hotmail fine but thats about it - can't select other folders, no reply function, can't select other emails in inbox, nothin'...
I give up - will continue using Chrome as otherwise i think its great but have set my homepage on Firefox to Hotmail and will use it until this mess is sorted out.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix cfbandit 1/13/09 8:45 AM
I've tried all of these solutions since I had the problem - yesterday - and nothing's doing the trick. Any news?
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Shawn (Googler) 1/13/09 10:03 AM
Hey guys,

Can you confirm that you're ammending the string to the Developer Build? Can you confirm tatroyer's solution posted on 1/9/09 (thanks tatroyer)? It seems like it's working for some but not for others so it'd be great to share the exact steps you took to figure out where the disparity is.

Shawn
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix tatroyer 1/13/09 4:05 PM
Shawn ( and others),

Yes, I am amending the string to the Developer Build.  I have full function to mail.live.com ( mine is "branded" as Qwest mail )

My About Version is the follow:

Google Chrome        2.0.156.1 (Official Build 7653)
WebKit        528.8
V8        0.4.6
User Agent        Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.1

As raVen noted above there looks to be a limit on who many spaces you can have for the target.
When I look at the string I have 233 char. in my target value.

"C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"   --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.1"

WHERE <username> in my case is actually 6 chars. long.

I can NO longer use the application shortcut with --app=http://mail.live.com inline.

Shawn: Can you confirm a max length in the target value of a shortcut?

Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix gaby 1/13/09 4:29 PM
Guys, try asking Hotmail support to get their browser detect working. You get something like: "Chrome is currently not supported" but after a few thousand times the same question they will fix it.

Itz a conspiracy!
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix cfbandit 1/14/09 10:48 AM
Shawn,

My computer kept insisting the string was invalid, but after shutting it down for the night and deleting all browsing data/clearing all regular temp files, it let me do it this morning!

It now works. I'm using 1.0.154.43.

I don't have the option to upgrade unless Google sends it to me with the updater, since I can't install things on my own on the work computer (my main chrome using location).
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix cfbandit 1/14/09 10:49 AM
Gaby, at least they admit Chrome exists. I tried talking to Yahoo Customer Support and they lectured me on using IE8 Beta when I clearly expressed that I was using Chrome as my browser of choice.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Oldgit929 1/14/09 8:14 PM
Hi, this worked for me, it was posted by kstuto 12-01-09. I just copied the bottom line into my chrome shortcut icon on desktop in the TARGET box. No problems since !!

i have the answer first i did the beta updates .... which i dont know if you have to do but i right clicked on google chrome on desktop and went to properties .. erased all the data in the target and put this

"chrome.exe" --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19"
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix lint 1/15/09 6:20 AM
well done oldgit929. The original posting by "Google Chrome Guide 1" at the beginning of this string. It not specify putting the string in the target field. This solved by problem for me. No more ie.

Thanks!
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix BrassFrog 1/15/09 9:45 AM
I tried Tatroyer's solution posted above and it worked great, but I'm beginning to think that the ultimate solution is to stop using Hotmail and make a complete switch to Gmail. Who needs more MS BS anyway?
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix RogerS1 1/15/09 10:18 AM
Used Oldgit 929 solution to version 43(not developer addition), everything now working well & can once again open emails & forward emails with additional comments. Thanks very much.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Shawn (Googler) 1/15/09 5:08 PM
You guys are awesome. What a show of teamwork and community. :) I'll edit the original post to be more clear.

@tatroyer: I believe Windows has a character limit of something around 250. Don't quote me on that one though. Haha. It's ballpark.
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix Shawn (Googler) 1/15/09 5:09 PM
Here we go:

1. Download Developer Build of Chromium
2. Right-click Google Chrome shortcut icon
3. Click on Properties
4. In the Shortcut tab, replace the content of Target field with the following. Be sure to change <username> with your user profile name:
"C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"   --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.1"
5. Click OK
Re: [Google Chrome Guide Post] Hotmail Fix _raVen_ 1/15/09 5:42 PM
That's it! Perfect.

Hope you can put this in your next stable update.

used the string posted by Oldgit929 on 1/14/09 and it worked fine on my version 1.0.154.43, just cleared target and pasted "chrome.exe" --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19"
tried string posted by shawn on 1/15/09 and it was rejected.

not a solution - spoofing useragent - maybe google should change the user agent within the browser and call it safari.

thanks Shawn,  I am one of those poor aged pc users that gets a headache when he sees a shortcut like that one.  For us simpletons is there any sign of an update to fix this.

Google Chrome doesn't work with Yahoo mail and it doesn't work with Hotmail.
Google people!! See you next time you got it fixed.

bobbypin57's method worked for me.  Just copy and paste.  I like Google Chrome and will put up with a few problems and lack of a little function for the benefits.

It's worked for me too.  Thanks for this good solution.

Hey everyone,

Good news for you all. :) We've submitted a patch that's a temporary workaround for issues with Hotmail as well as Yahoo mail. We're in discussion with Microsoft about the issue and while the Microsoft Hotmail team works on a proper fix, we're deploying this workaround that changes the user agent string that Google Chrome sends when requesting URLs that end with mail.live.com.

If you've been using the --user-agent switch to use Hotmail, you can remove the switch from your shortcuts with this release.

Everyone with the stable and beta version of Google Chrome will be eventually updated to version 1.0.154.46 or you can also update on demand by going to the Tools (wrench) menu, selecting 'About Google Chrome' and checking for updates.

I included a link to our blog post with more information about the update below.

Cheers!
Shawn

With the new developer release (build), the engineers have hardcoded that useragent string within chromium whenever you visit *.live.com websites (hence hotmail is one of them). So you would no longer need that useragent for newer chrome releases.

Woohoo! Hotmail works with Chrome! Actually that happened already since about the beginning of 2009 but still.. I'm so glad that the best browser (my opinion) on the planet can use Hotmail! Yes.... I wonder if it was Microsoft trying to force Hotmail users to use IE.....

Hey all,

I've got a problem with the Sky TV listings website in the UK.

The URL is: http://tv.sky.com/tvlistings

When I go there, I get:

"We have detected that you are using an old version of Safari. You need Safari 3 or Firefox to view our latest version of the TV Listings. Please click on one of the links below:

I want to upgrade Safari to see the latest version of the TV Listings
I want to download Firefox (Mac) instead to see the latest version of the TV Listings
Take me to the old version of the TV Listings in Safari 2"

I have tried a fix like the following: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=79f7995f5fa55b12&hl=en

This worked for me, but when I then tried to load my gmail, it would not load in the proper view. The wee bar would get near the end, but not quite get there. I could load the standard html version. When I removed this string, it worked fine. So it seems both won't work together.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Graham.

Hey,

Just a quick update. Other parts of this website work, but its specifically the tv listings section that doesn;t. It gives a link to an older version as if using safari 2, but this doesn't give as much interactivity. If you try opening in IE or Firefox the link I gave you should see how it should look.

Thanks,

Graham.
