|Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||rjwilliamson46||1/31/10 7:01 PM|
I have just downloaded google chrome but when I open it the screen remains blank and it gives the loading symbol. This continues for a while until finally it gives the message that the page has become unresponsive and that I can kill it or wait. I'm running on Windows XP home and chrome 188.8.131.52. I have reinstalled multiple times but still recieve the same results. Any help would be really appreciated!

I'm having exactly this fault too.
I see that the 'stable channel updated' message has gone up for this and other related faults, but I have no idea what that means or what to do to make use of it.
Is anyone able to post instructions for implimenting a fix?
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||poing||2/14/10 12:20 PM|
New info: Chrome can't even get to it's own history folder. Iv'e just been asked if I want to kill the history page or wait for it to respond. This seems weird.

I'm having this problem, as well. It's stuck on load and it eventually asks me whether or not to kill the "Untitled" page. Nothing's been working. :(

I have the same problem. I was using Chrome for few months now, it was always perfect and I loved it, but unfortunately yesterday it started to be unresponsive. Can somebody help me?

I am having the same issue and it may be a COWINKIDINK, but it started after the MS updates released on Tuesday and I applied them on 2/24. I've tried reinstalling and no good. In fact, I just got a box i have never seen before, "Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed. Restart now? "
I am going to try to install the latest version of the BETA to see if that works.
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||Cibertek||2/25/10 4:45 AM|
Well, I figured out what was causing my issue: SPYWARE Doctor with Anti-Virus! I installed this as part of the Google Pack offering before I started to use Chrome. This "spyware" program used to be just for SPYWARE. It now seems to have morphed into a ANTI-VIRUS also and the Google Updater did its job and updated the version in the background. When I restarted, I now had 2 AV programs and Chrome was not having it.
The second I disabled Spyware Doctor, Chrome came back to life. I have no need for 2 AV programs so I un-installed it and all is well. It does bother me a little that this Google Pack updater just installed an AV program without asking.

Re Spyware Doctor and Chrome.
I have noted that whilst Spyware Doctor is running a scan Chrome won't load correctly (blank page followed by Kill or Wait). At the same time, Spyware Doctors scan stops whilst Chrome is attempting to load. They appear to co-exist happilly with both installed and loaded when Spyware Doctor isn't running a scan.
Versions as follows:
Vista Ultimate 64 SP2
Chrome 184.108.40.206 (38071)
Spyware Doctor "Starter Edition (with newley added Anti-Virus - where did that come from?) as downloaded originaly from Google Pack. The About option shows a blank version but according to google updater it downloaded on the 3rd of Jan this year.

I was able to solve it via removing the tdss rootkit. This nasty bugger evaded avs,avast, microtrend, malwarebytes, spywaredoctor, and a few more I can't remember.
The big tip off was when I tried a full antivirus scan, avast crashed with a ugigenskin error. forums say to goto avast.ini file and set something to zero I forget. Doesn't work
http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684 <- my solution
my atapi.sys was infected.
1. download tdsskiller.exe
2. reboot system and hit the F5/F8 key to get safe mode boot choices
3. after windows with command prompt is loaded run tdsskiller.
4. reboot and check again
5. check if chrome works
Also, running tdsskiller.exe while windows is booted normally will detect the rootkit, but unable to remove it.
It's probably wise to check everything you have passworded.

James you are my hero! Your solution was the one that finally worked for me.
I'll go into some detail in case it might help anyone else with the same problem: I'd tried everything on this Chrome Help page: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=113910 to no avail. After finally finding your post, I started a thorough scan with avast to see if I'd get that ugigenskin error you got. But it was taking forever and I'm impatient, so I decided to go ahead with the tdsskiller.exe and follow your steps.
But before rebooting into safe mode, I first ran it from regular Windows, and sure enough it mentioned an infected atapi.sys and detected the rootkit. But it also said it was fixed upon reboot. I followed the instructions and pressed Y to reboot. Once rebooted, I ran tdsskiller.exe again and this time, no infection! Then I found Chrome was back to normal.
Thank you thank you thank you!

Thank you so much. It worked. Now I don't have to curse whenever I try to open a website :)

James, that was awesome. It worked like a charm. Any idea how we came about this tdss infection? First time in 10+ years I've ever had any kind of virus/infection on my computer.

James you are fantastic! Worked like a miracle!! Thank you friend.
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||robyoung123||3/20/10 11:52 AM|
well i did what james said and it removed the infection that was in my "atapi" driver. Only problem now is Chrome will do absolutely nothing. Before it would display the loading cursor and then ask to wait or kill the pages, now n.o.t.h.i.n.g.

Thank you James!
It worked perfectly...Just a little slow at first.

Want to know the 'funny' thing about the advice? Either Kapersky's TDSSKiller just automaticly says your atapi file is infected, or every time Google Chrome is uninstalled/re-installed it becomes infected and TDSSKiller is correct. I've tried TDSSKiller 4 times downloaded x4, executed program file x6) although I tired to execute TDSSKiller.exe via Windows Command Prompt and well apparently it is not a reconizable command.
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||Kalyan77||4/5/10 5:17 PM|
I tried using the TDSSKiller.exe. It found that atapi.sys is infected and asked to Reboot. So I did Select Y to reboot. Then i booted my windows in Safe mode. Then Ran TDSSKiller.exe again and it said 0 found. So rebooted back in Regular Windows Mode.
Now i run TDSSKiller.exe again to check for infections and it Found 1. Same atapi.sys is still infected. Asked me to reboot again.
I did this process couple of times but no luck. What am i doing wrong ? Please help

ran after extraction in normal mode! it found infection and said press y to reboot infection will be removed after. did this and viola chrome started with no problems and reran scan no more infection.

Popular Answer worked after 1st reboot without running in safe mode.
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||Grumpy-||6/5/10 4:28 AM|
Thanks James. Nothing worked until I tried your solution. I didn't even have to run tdsskiller in safe mode for it to work. Nasty little bug. Looked like I had it removed, but was still getting occasional pop-up windows opening in IE - folks: if that's happening to you, try James solution.

TDSSKiller.exe. via Kaspersky Anti-Virus worked for me in XP.
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||Jonifili||6/7/10 5:36 PM|
Just run Kapersky's TDSSKiller, and got a clen bill of health! Still Chrome isn't working!!!!
And I don't like to run it with the no sand box paramater.
On top of it, it is happening not only in one computer.
Hello Google! Earth to Google!! any ideias?
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||albrntt||6/23/10 11:48 PM|
I had the --no-sandbox issue as well. I've tried virus scans, malware programs, even uninstalling chrome completely. None of those things worked. However, searching high and low, I found a like to this forum, and now it works with out having to use the --no-sandbox option. I followed the advice given by James to run TDSSKiller, and it worked the first time. Thanks James!!!!!!!

tdskiller worked for me, thanks to everyone! I thought I was going to have to go back to Firefox (ok) or IE (shudder)
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||plcalderaz||7/5/10 9:09 AM|
Thank you!. This solution also worked for me. I had a user computer here at work with the same issues, and after running the TDSSkiller root kit finder tool, that was the issue! Found the infection and killed it. Re installed Chrome and its back in working order once again.
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||johnpend||7/6/10 12:17 PM|
James, thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU! After six hours fighting with this, using everything I could find (including MalwareBytes), your solution worked perfectly! I ran it in "normal" mode (not "safe" mode) and it worked perfectly the very first time!
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||Jonifili||7/6/10 4:57 PM|
TDSSkiller not doing the job for me. Allmost 2 month and still there is no way (out site de sand box) to get Chrome working. Just dl it today and retraiyed
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||robyoung123||7/6/10 5:18 PM|
finaly someone who agrees...well i followed that stupid idea, it was nothing but a scam that ended up infesting my computer. Listen, do you think a company will give you free anti-virus software? They lace the "free" and "trial" versons with a virus, and then will say "in order to remove this threat, please upgrade to..." Please do NOT believe in this smut.
|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||GreatNate||11/3/10 6:30 AM|
I had tried everything other help topics suggested but didn't work.
I figured it wasn't just Google chrome because other programs seemed to be infected as well. It was nasty and prevented other things like windows update from being able to access the internet. Other programs that seemed affected were my steam web browser (it also uses the same web toolkit as chrome), Microsoft Security Essentials, and a few others.
My culprit was also the Rootkit.Win32.TDSS Virus (Also called Tidserv, TDSServ, Alureon)
Neither Symantec Endpoint protection, AVG Anti-virus, or Windows Security Essentials picked up the virus. Hitman Pro detected it but didn't remove it, I ended going to a specific site to defeat this particular virus.
Here is the website: http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684
Or this one explains the symptoms a bit more: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-tdss-tdl3-alureon-rootkit-using-tdsskiller
Hope this helps!

Help! I ran the Tdss Killer thing, but it said that no threats were found.
So.. what do I do now?
It still won't load!
However, one page works..
When I came back on the computer, it wouldn't let me open a new page.
But the page that is already open works fine.
It just says the Shockwave Flash has crashed.

|Re: Google Chrome won't load anything, says unresponsive.||ritik bjaj||4/3/13 1:48 AM|
hi huys guess what ive found the problem its because you have to much data on your device or you have cheat engine
too much data: if theres to much data then chrome slows down and begins to crash then a messege pops-up asking to kill the page to undo this uninstall programs you dont want bye going onto conroll panel->programs and features->uninstall a program.
cheat engine: cheat engine sometimes causes the program to be slowed on force and when cheat angine is not on it steals chrome data and when it takes too much it causes it to shut down if you have cheat engine for whatever reason unstall it imditly
once you uninstaled those programs or cheat engine uninstall chrome and install chrome again if it stills does crash then try uninstalling more programs if the problems continue then im afraid i dunnu what to do sorry.
