Oops... a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#008) hhhEEELP 12/13/08 12:12 PM
The past 2 days while attempting to send emails from Gmail I keep getting the error:

Oops... a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#008)

Sometimes I get through after a few attempts.

I looked it up in the Faq section but even with my security turned off I get the same error.

Does anyone have a clue... is it me or are others experiencing this problem.

Thank you in advance.

By the way, I am located in S NJ and have verizon DSL and the problems started around 12/13.  I wonder if the ice storms in the north east would have affected tyhe link.  Again, this is a sporatic problem.  SOmetimes it sends on the first try and sometimes I have to try to send a dozen times.  I run XP and the problem persists with AV and firewall disabled.

Try to change ur firewall setting. If is is in low then change the setting to Medium. I think it will be sloved. :)

I have experienced this too.
The trouble shooting steps i took were
1) disable any anti virus, firewall program on your computer.
2) delete the cookies, temporary internet files, history.
3) try using https://mail.google.com
4) If you are behind a NAT device or firewall or modem ( try setting the MTU size to 1404), if you have got an option to do that.

I just had this problem and I tried sending it like 4 or 5 times. Then I just waited about a half hour and tried again and it worked. I don't think it's a settings or internet issue, but a gmail one. They could be doing some kind of maintenance at that particular time or a server could be down. I wish they would put something out about that tho.

I turned off the proxy settings in internet options and works fine now. i beleive its something to do with the firewall blocking the communication

Hope that helps

I had this same problem, just started happening out of the blue. I couldn't save the email draft or send it
all i did was logout of my account and log back in, and then it worked fine after that.

I was logged in as one user on Gmail and logged in as a different user on another Google software.
The fix was to log out of the 2nd program and log in to Gmail again.

I just got this when I was logged into Gmail as user "A", but in another tab logged into Google Reader as user "B".  Logging out from Gmail and logging back in fixed it.

Don't bother posting.  They won't answer because they don't care.

I also experienced this (#008) problem today for the first time. I also experienced a problem with Google Reader (a slightly retarded "oops..." message) at the same time. I always access Gmail through https so must be something else.

Using Chrome Beta 8.0.552.200 and Win 7 x64.

I have been getting this message A LOT lately.  I send my mother tons of pictures.  I was trying to send her a few pictures and a video, but that message kept coming up.  I signed out, signed back in, re-created the e-mail without the video, and it worked.  I don't know if the video was over the limit, but normally it says so if it is, but anyway, that seemed to help me. :P

I had this issue today and learnt its bcos of the max attachment limit.

With Gmail, you can send and receive messages up to 25 megabytes (MB) in size.

The message could be changed to something meaningful for the user.... or does it mean anything having a number next to James Bond :-)

file attachment(s) too big causes this.
