|Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||nroq||11/20/08 10:28 AM|
The realplayer video downloader allows you to automatically download video content from the web (i.e. youtube videos).
This software works in IE and Firefox, but not in Chrome. Is there a way to make it work that I don't know about? If not, I think that Google should try to make their browser more compatible with third party software.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||nycesl||12/26/08 11:40 PM|
I agree. I wish chrome worked with the real player 11 downloader. I use chrome a lot for work but still need to use IE for the downloader. Firefox 3 alos is NOT compatible with the real downloader.
I think it is just a matter of making a compatible plugin. It is a chicken and egg situation. Real may not do it until enough people use chrome. But, more people would use chrome if they had it...
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||wild6969man||12/27/08 11:51 AM|
I found a way to make it work for any internet video. First, you have to already have downloaded an internet video from any site and still have it in your Real Player library. If you do, go to it and right click on it. Then in the pop up menu, left click on "View clip info." The window that will then pop up will have that clip's url in it. Left click on that link and you will be on the web through Real Player itself and then you can go to any website by typing the web address in that window's address bar. From there, just go to any video you want and the option to save the video will pop up as on all the other browsers other than Google Chrome. It's just that easy! By this method, you're surfing the web through Real Player instead of directly through your own browser. It's a slower way of browsing, but it's not bad. You get to record all the videos as usual again, 100%, like before Chrome.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||leo315||12/30/08 12:13 AM|
start realplayer, click on file and open, copy the webpage address to 'open', click ok, click on 'download video' (you can pause the video while downloading and continue surfing on with your prefered browser)
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Kevbob||3/24/09 4:17 PM|
Leo315's solution is (currently) the best workaround I've found for this situation - it worked with YouTube, PlayList, and several other video and MP3 sites I've tried to download files to Realplayer from. Thanks for coming up with the answer, Leo!
Hopefully Realplayer and/or Google Chrome will fix the problem with future releases of their applications.....
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||wild6969man||3/25/09 10:41 AM|
Now there is no more problem. RealPlayer has a new update to make it work. Just update RealPlayer and it now works in IE, Google Chrome, and Firefox. You still have to go into RealPlayer for other browsers though.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||sgaskill||4/29/09 2:45 PM|
I updated the RealPlayer and for a while it worked, but now I cannot download any more videos with chrome. Don't know what the deal is.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||wild6969man||4/30/09 6:54 AM|
If it's not set to startup in your startup menu, you will have to start it up after your computer starts and then it will work again. I always try to keep everything that is not necessary to start from starting so my computer will startup faster. After your computer starts, open up RealPlayer once and then just close it. It will remain able to use again until the next time you start your computer or if you stop it in your task menu, it will then not work again. Basically, just open RealPlayer and then close it again. It should be fine then.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||sushantadh||5/3/09 4:21 PM|
It only worked in an administrator account. It does not work on any other user accounts
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||wild6969man||5/4/09 7:00 AM|
I only have an administrator account, but I would have thought it would have worked anyway. That's Vista for you, if that's also what you have. If you do have Vista, do this: 1.Start in the administrator's account. 2.RIGHT click on the icon to open RealPlayer. 3.Go down to properties and click on that. 4.Go up to the Securtity tab and click on it. 5.Go down to the users that you want to give permission to and select each one, one at a time if there's more than one. 6.Just below that, click on the edit button and another small window will open up. 7.Go down and allow that user full control by selecting that box, or else specify the permissions you want to give that person by selecting Allow for the permissions you do want them to have and selecting Deny for the permissions you don't want them to have. 8.Then at the bottom of the window, click on the Apply button and then click OK after that. 9.After that, click Apply, then OK in the first window and hopefully it will work then. If you have more users, do the same for all of them also. You just have to do it for each user one at a time if you have multiple users. If you want them to be able to anything with RealPlayer, when you get to the specific permissions, just select the Allow box next to Full Control and it will automatically mark Allow for all of the permissions for that specific user. Hope this works!
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Whaat||7/4/09 3:08 AM|
Save the above script some where. Copy and paste above script in your chrome tab where youtube video is running. Chrome will start downloading video while video will continue running without any interruption. Works only with youtube as you can see in script. But can be adapted for other sites as well.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Achyutha RN||1/18/10 8:25 PM|
I too had the same problem, but updating the real player has solved the problem. One more clarification is sought: does the download quantity doubles because of real player downloading it again? In 'Freecorder' add on, it is downloaded in a designated folder while viewing later we have an option to save it or delete it
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||teddyboy||1/30/10 2:51 PM|
Hey, i finally got it to work. Realplayer 11 needs to get updated before you can download videos (i.e. see the download icon on top of videos) from sites like youtube. I'm not sure but try downloading a newer version of java on your computer. Now to update realplayer just go to tools>preferences>autoupdate>check for updates now and there should be a list underneath. If you get the choice real player sp, then you're there. I can't say this works for all computers with google chrome install but hope this might help. Enjoy.

I have exactly the same problem. Suddenly the download button disappeared and reinstall real and chrome does not help. What is causing this problem?
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Paul in Maryland||5/9/10 2:51 PM|
I think the problem is that Chrome no longer uses Adobe's Flash plug-in; instead, the Flash code is built-in.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||rodblack78||5/11/10 3:52 PM|
I had the old chrome version, 4.1, and the real player download this button worked, but since I upgraded google chrome to the 5.0 version, it does not work. The problem is in the updated chrome version, somehow the developers did not think to have the realplayer button work in the updated version. If you want the real player button you would have to roll back to the 4.1 version of chrome.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||andreaborman||5/13/10 4:14 PM|
I too find that Real Player works on firefox,Lunascape and Internet Explorer web browsers. It used to work in Google Chrome but recently does not. Also Real Player works on every video site if using browsers Firefox,Lunascape or Internet Explorer but not on My Space. Why is this? I think Real Player should be updated to work in every web browser not just the 3 browsers it does at the moment.For eg if you want to use Real Player while browsing on Safari or Slim browser you should be able to and not have to switch to Firefox or other just to use it. Also My Space has disabled Real player on their site and I am very disapointed with this, as I can no longer download and convert my own videos from there anymore.Andrea

|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||singingsister57||6/29/10 11:08 AM|
I like Chrome so much better when I'm doing online karaoke. The site actually suggests Chrome or Firefox and say that IE will not work well. Here's my problem.This has happened to me several times.I have already checked in my preferences in Realplayer that I want to be able to download in all installed browsers and then I list them, IE, Chrome and Firefox.Then I can download in all three browsers. All of a sudden Chrome will stop working. So, I am able to download for months and then no matter what I do, I can't get it to work again and have to go back to the other browsers just to download even though I like to use Chrome for recording. It's so annoying!! There are so many months in between the problem that I can't even remember what I do to get it to work again. I think the last time it just started working about on it's own after a few weeks. Grrrrr! I came here to day because it stopped working again just now. I have cleared all my history etc.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||wild6969man||6/30/10 10:00 AM|
I've been missing out on this forum since I went to a 64 bit system and no longer can use RealPlayer for that reason. However, that last one has me stumped too. Just trying to think about it, I'm wondering if Google Chrome made any changes that were incompatible with RealPlayer. I seems that the last version of Google Chrome has some troubles with some sites for me. Now, not only have I moved up to a 64 bit system which RealPlayer doesn't work in, but I have also dumped Windows all together and went to Ubuntu as my operating system, so now I can't use any Windows software. One thing that did work was Flashget for downloading videos in Windows. Just like Firefox has Flashgot, there is one called Flashget (with an "e") for other browsers. It might be a good downloader for you, not only for videos, but other downloads too. Well, there are a lot of downloaders out there that you can also use. Some for free and some for purchase. I'm not sure what might be the best, but in addition to RealPlayer's downloading ability, there are also many great download managers out there too, many for videos also.

|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Stano747||7/21/10 8:25 AM|
Since I updated Realplayer It stopped working with Chrome.To get it to work in any browser,open Realplayer and go to File,New,New Web Browser, then type (in my case) http://www.youtube.com
Hope this helps .
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||singingsister57||7/25/10 2:41 AM|
I'm not sure what you mean.I followed all those steps, Stano. Are you saying to put the URL of the web browser in that new window. I put in www.chrome.com but some company named chrome came up.If you put the YouTube URL in that "new" window in RealPlayer, YouTube comes up. How does that make RealPlayer work in Chrome? I want to be using Chrome. I want to be in my Chrome web browser and be able to use ther RealPlayer downloader. It works in IE and firefox, but not in Chrome even though I have it listed in my preferences for realplayer.
Sorry, if I'm slow and don't understand. I'm just not seeing how putting YouTube or in my case, www.singsnap.com in that "new web browser" window in realplayer helps me use Chrome for downloads. If you have time, would you please so this dumb bunny understands. lol
Thanks for your time.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||pirlo21||8/11/10 11:09 AM|
And finally I found the solution, we should re-installed Real Player again and its works normally, sure 100000000000000000000%
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||singingsister57||8/18/10 12:16 AM|
Yes, pirlo21. I found that solution too. When I re-installed RealPlayer then the downloader worked in IE, Chrome and Firefox for me.
Here is the link to RealPlayer's announcement about a fix. Apparently, they had to change their program because Firefox and Chrome had updates that knocked out the downloader function.
Here's that link. It includes the place where you go to get the latest version of RealPlayer that should fix the problem. It did for me.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||andreaborman||9/29/10 12:04 PM|
In an earlier comment i said that Real Player will only work in Firefox,google chrome or Chromium and Lunascape but not in any other web browser which I think is silly. as a lot of people do not necessary use Firefox or Chrome now. But despite RP updating their app they have never changed this. I do not have Firefox now as I have got Pale Moon browser its open source version instead. And RP does not work in Pale Moon or Safefox another Firefox open source browser either. But there is a way round this. Real Player has its own built in browser,and it is with this you can download a video. Let me explain- click on Real Player on your desktop or start menu to open it. You do not need to open any web browsers. Then you will see the web search bar on the top right hand corner of the page in Real Player. select web search and type in a page,this opens Real player browser. then you can search the web as you can in any web browser but in RP. then go to the video site you want to download video and when you play the video. The blue download this video link will appears as it does in Firefox. And you can then download the video. So now with Real Player or with this years edition anyway- you can now download a video in Real Player itselfe with out even having to open any browser as real player now has its own built in browser. Andrea.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Juny R||10/6/10 4:02 PM|
What about version numbers?
One of the most common causes of realplayer failing to work are browser-updates. For now if you use firefox, you can only use Realplayer with firefox version 3.6.3 or earlier. And NO neither firefox or realplayer mentions this.
So the same thing for google it's going to be a lot of trial and error to find the right version of google chrome to work with realplayer, so for the ones that got realplayer working. PLEASE POST wich google chrome versions you use?
Ohw and I became a google chrome user yesterday, I would be happy to stay one if I get Realplayer up and runnin'.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Juny R||10/6/10 4:02 PM|
And I was right:
I just found one version that seems to work with realplayer. And the version number is
> 184.108.40.2066 (41514)
I haven't had the time to really find out what the latest version of google chrome is that works with Real Player. So PLEASE POST if you got real player working in any higher version maybe even a version 5 or 6 who knows.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||pauloweb||10/23/10 11:24 PM|
leo315's answer was good.
Chrome is already on its seventh version and did not solve this problem...
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Juny R||10/24/10 10:10 PM|
leo's answer is a work-around.
The latest Real-Player is compatible with these browser versions:
- Google Chrome 7
- Mozilla Firefox 3.10
- Internet Explorer 9
So when you update google to version 8 and realplayer stops working, you know why ;)
Always wait for the realplayer-update.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Fire Fish||11/6/10 9:09 PM|
I use Google Chrome beta (currently version 8.0.552.28 beta) on my pc, real player worked when i downloaded it but stoped working a few days later (or a few days ago i suppose). real player DOES still work on older versions of chrome though. my XP still runs with version 7 and works. Until real player is updated I suggest you use either their browser to download videos or use explorer. (I prefer Real players over explorer, but thats me.)

I'm using RealPlayer version 220.127.116.119 and the downloader is working with
1. Chrome 9.0.597.98
2. Firefox 3.6.12
3. Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702IC (don't use this much. Just updated from IE 6. Still seems so slow to me.But the Downloader works.)
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Juny R||2/23/11 11:43 PM|
It works with Internet Explorer 9 also....
But not so good with Firefox 4 Beta... It will only download the first movie alright... and if you download a second movie in the Beta, it will download the first movie again.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Juny R||2/23/11 11:49 PM|
With Google Chrome I noticed that most of the time only the first tab will support the Real Player Plugin...
If you open a second tab chances are the plugin won't show up... or if you are lucky a refresh can make it show up... maybe the plugin calculates the resources and decides if its wise to show up or not... because most of the time I run photoshop and other RAM consuming applications.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Juny R||2/23/11 11:51 PM|
Thats why probably it always works in Real Player because realplayers doesnt support tabbed browsing.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Juny R||2/23/11 11:55 PM|
So the support list might look like this:
3. Internet Explorer 9
And keep in mind not to open too much tabs while browsing... chances are the plugin will only work in the first tab...

|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||Juny R||2/27/11 8:29 AM|
I think you mean Real Player not Chrome Player... It shows up only when you are watching a flash movie AND hover you mouse over the playing movie... then you'll see a Download Button appear... or else Right Click on the movie...
If that doesn't work go to your Real Player and press Alt... then go to "Preferences..." > "Download & Recording" > "Enable Web Download & recording..."
And also try refreshing the page... sometimes it needs a simple refresh.

on the right side click on " +Details "
the first plugin which is Flash (2 files) , Disable > the flash player on C:\Users\Mohamed\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\11.0.696.25\gcswf32.dll
and you should have downloaded the other flash player , and then it will work with you agian .. pic below .. :)

Mohammed I checked your answer.... You finally nailed it :p
- Go to the adress bar type "about:plugins" without quotations.
- Disable Flash
- Then download the new flash player directly from http://get.adobe.com/...
- Go back to "about:plugins"
- Click the upper right link on the page, called "Details"
- Enable the following DLL "C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll" (and leave the ...\gcswf32.dll disabled)
And then you should be all good to go...
Finally I can quit using Internet Explorer. No more waiting for Real Player updates....

I had this same EXACT issue, the youtube black screen of (near) death.
I tried the disabling hardware acceleration, but that didn't help.
Read through a bunch of forums and here is the solution that fixed the black screen of (near) death for me.
I had been signed into Youtube with my actual Youtube account I created years ago.
So this is what you need to do:
-Sign out of youtube.
-Log in with your GOOGLE account username and password.
BAM! It works!!
No need to mess with plugins and what not.
|Re: Realplayer Downloader doesn't work in Chrome||musicollector||5/7/11 1:02 PM|
Well, the matter is simple! Forget about Realplayer or Chrome. For the first option, download and install Real Alternative to play Realmedia files. Yes, indeed, they all download the RAM/RM files, but the playing part is the problem. It has a Chrome plug-in. If not, try the fully functional Firefox (which also allows us to choose if we want to simply download or play, as well). If Chrome and Realplayer both want to be brain-dead about it, so be it.
