Hi,
My Question has already been asked, but it was two months ago in March.. Considering the fact that Chrome is a fast developing browser, has this feature been added or yet to be added?

I want to clear my browsing history automatically as soon as I close Chrome...

Here is the previous query

Click&Clean chrome add-on will clear your Browsing History Automatially when Chrome Browser closes:

Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? vipiin 10/31/09 6:06 AM
k, thanks for it. There are similar programs like 'privacy eraser pro' which can clear your entire computer's history in one go. but this one seems to be a plugin in google chrome itself.. but still, i will be more than happy if google incorporates this functionality in chrome itself without the need of download this plugin separately...

thanks

I found it easier to just open the google chrome in incognito mode by default using the parameter chrome.exe - incognito

"I agree. Not having auto clear is dangerous"

Also violates my security policy.

Incognito mode:
the web pages you visit may still hold records of your visit,
any temporary files saved to your PC will still remain on your PC... (Chrome Help warning)
and extensions not working in incognito mode.

If you want to clear your browsing history automatically,
the best solution will be using the Click&Clean extension (Chrome Dev/Beta on Windows),
because it uses browser's built-in ability to clear browsing history and several other useful options:

prevent deletion of extensions preferences,
support externall apps,
remove Flash LSOs,
close all tabs/windows before clearing,
delete local web-databases...

Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? rgallier 1/30/10 1:28 PM
I would like the ability to run tabs in incognito mode. The way I see it working is a Chrome would maintain a list of web sites / domains which would ALWAYS (except if dynamic incognito is off) be displayed in incognito mode and non-Google extensions would not be available for these pages / domains.

That being said, I would like to see some Google extensions (or Google certified malware-free extensions) which could be allows in ALL modes. The types of extensions I would like to see would be security related:
AdBlock Chromium
https Secure
FlashBlock
LastPass
RoboForm
NoScript (not available yet)

Hey everyone,

It's possible to clear cookies and other site data upon exit from Google Chrome. This option was introduced in version 4.1. Just go to Tools > Options > Under the Hood > Content Settings > Cookies and select Clear cookies and other site data when I close my browser.

Cheers,
Toni
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? vipiin 4/20/10 7:39 PM
yup, it's there :)

I guess the answer has finally been arrived at to this thread
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? SM27 4/21/10 7:15 AM
"Clear cookies and Other site data when I close browser" does not clear browsing history - in latest windows build 4.1.249.1059 (44723). It does clear cookies as intended so that you would always appear to be a new visitor to the site, users can't look into web sites logged in during prior session etc.

Clearing browser history is still a manual activity requiring use of 'Clear Browsing Data" button in tools!Options!Under the Hood.

I actually like this implementation. It is more security oriented. I find history being persisted helps with productivity since it is included in search.

My guess is folks looking for easy way to cover tracks from snooping by significant others etc may not like it. IE deletes history as well as cookies etc if so chosen.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? gassner1 4/21/10 7:25 AM
The solution of clearing cookies and other site data does not answer the question. I guess at Google you do not have to know reading comp. It says Delete HISTORY. this solution does not delete the history only the cookies.
Looking for a better solution for this issue...
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? mm66 4/22/10 11:10 PM
The best solution here for Windows users is to use Firefox or IE which will both clear browsing data on closing.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? SM27 4/26/10 3:05 PM
If browsing history is the concern, just start Chrome in "incognito mode" by default. On Windows, I right clicked Chrome icon on my desktop, selected copy and paste to create a duplicate. Then right clicked one of them, added -incognito after chrome.exe in the target; clicked 'Change Icon', selected a different Icon followed by right click and rename to "Incognito". Now I have 2 Chrome shortcuts to choose from depending on whether I want Chrome to cache browsing history or not.

Have not noticed it, but I am guessing that browsing in Incognito mode - no caching -  may be a little slower in some cases than with caching that is cleared on exit.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? NameAlreadyTaken 5/20/10 3:41 PM
I selected "Clear cookies and Other site data when I close my browser" as Toni Suggested @ 4/20/10. This does not clear history upon exit.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? Polyarchy 6/2/10 8:29 PM
This should be a basic feature by now but it is clearly being ignored for some reason.

The "best answer" listed from 4/20/10 etc. does NOT work in Chrome 5.0.375.55 under Windows, which was the current release as of 5-Jun-2010 at 23:06:57 UTC.  What platform and browser release were you using?

Thanks,

Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? Jerkie 9/10/10 7:00 AM
Bump!

I also need this basic feature in Chrome.. Can the google techies help this to get integrated ?
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? secristr 9/19/10 4:18 PM
Since there has been no response since April, I presume Google wants the tracking cookies to remain in the browser as a way of tailoring ads to users, which is a service Google sells, and the requested feature would cut off a revenue stream and has been rejected?  If so, I'd appreciate it if Google would just come out and say that.

Thanks,
rcs
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? Tergulath 9/23/10 1:49 PM
I agree there's something fishy going on that google won't include a basic feature that is  built in with any modern browser. 2 years and still no answer to this.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? kevinmarkwell 9/26/10 8:43 PM
If Google wanted to pass on saleable data from users' caches, I reckon they would have limited the effectiveness of the clearance button feature that does exist. The code is open source so I'm amazed that no one can tell Google how to do it, but it's all gibberish to me. For now, I leave an extra tab open that reminds me to clear the cache before I exit. If I didn't, I'd have a drive full of old junk. I'm annoyed this thread counts as Answered because someone's missed the point. We'd like cache clearance separated, that excludes cookies, history, etc. Even IE separates these! [that should motivate Google.]
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? PeteXZ 10/21/10 3:26 AM
I just noticed (Chrome 7.0.517.41 on Linux) another problem with this.  Open a few tabs and navigate to a different site in each tab.  Now choose Preferences/Clear browsing data.  Clear everything (manually).  Close Chrome by hitting the close box in the top right of the window.  Reopen Chrome.  The sites you had open will be visible in the recently closed tabs list.

I realise that this isn't exactly a bug because the browsing data really was cleared.  The recently closed tabs list was created later, when you closed the browser.  However, this feels unsatisfactory.  Someone is going to suffer a breach of privacy because this works in such a counter-intuitive way.

Really this is another reason to clear the browsing data when the browser is closed.  That way it would catch any last minute additions to the browsing data, like the tab list.

Back to Firefox and Opera
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? CiscoKid 11/30/10 12:23 PM
I just noticed this feature is missing from Chrome. Even still in the most recent build (7.0.517). Chrome is always touted as being more secure than other browsers yet its developers don't even take basic privacy into account. This is no different than Facebook IMO.

I encourage all active forum members to repost in this thread until this issue is brought to the attention of Googlers and is fully resolved.

Until then, it's back to Firefox I go.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? woahtuff 12/1/10 12:57 PM
Yeah, just found out about this too.  After trying for hours to figure out how to delete history automatically on exit, I found this thread. Bummer, back to FF until this is fixed.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? orichards 12/22/10 10:53 AM
Hello Google? I really like your browser but...the inability to have a setting to clear browsing history on exit is problematic. This is touted as a great browser but...shouldn't this be a basic feature? Until this is resolved it's back to Firefox for this user...Later
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? falk.koeppe 12/29/10 1:32 AM
Delete history automatically upon exit is not yet implemented into the google chrome browser. (version 8.0.552.224)

I would like to see the following features:
- Checkbox to enable or disable "Delete history when exiting the browser".
- Detailed options for what exactly should be deleted upon exit. Could be the same options as the "delete internet data" window.
- At best, the checkbox is placed right into the "delete internet data" window.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? cunning1 1/7/11 3:07 AM
This is a show stopper for me too. Back to Firefox. Shame as Chrome is generally a good browser.

Hey guys. Google Extensions are your friend: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/hpledeejjeclnbheljakfceonnainbbc

This has an option to delete all on exit.

Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? mkaz13 4/5/11 9:19 PM
Not having an auto-delete for History is a game stopper for me. I'll continue to use Firefox until the issue is fixed, although I must say that in comparing the two, other than that issue, Chrome seems much faster and easier to use...bummer.

SON. GOHAN - READ THE QUESTION

Question: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit?

The key word there is "History"

That implies clearing the history.

As in the browser history.

As in the places sites you visit.

Cookies are not the history of your visit.

Other site data is not the history of your visit.

The HISTORY is the history of your visit.

Clearing the HISTORY removes the history, hence wanting to clear the history.

History.

Not cookies, not other site data, HISTORY.

Thank you.

I'm history.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? OakWind 7/29/11 9:47 AM
I gave up on Chrome, even the latest version, 12. Does not have a delete HISTORY and all other site data on exit.

I was under the impression that setting the delete site data option was doing this, but when I checked I was astonished that the history was still there.

So I am forced to use Fire Fox 5. Fire Fox has always given the user the option to completely remove all data including HISTORY on exit.

Sorry Google.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? frazmi 7/30/11 5:58 PM
Tokkar (his sarcasm not withstanding) is right, totally right. The "best answer" addresses a different question. Also, incognito mode breaks a few sites, so it's not a perfect answer.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? konyater 7/30/11 8:50 PM
SOLVED finally

The extension click&clean has this functionality
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ghgabhipcejejjmhhchfonmamedcbeod

it also has fairly fine grained privacy controls for what you want to delete.

I wish hotcleaner would have advertised this feature a little more. I've been waiting for some to add this functionality for ... 2 years now, jeesh.

There are some other addons developed by the same group. It's possible one of them just has the bare bones history cleaning people are looking for, but I'm too tired to check.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? mchady 8/23/11 7:41 PM

Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? DonAtlGa 10/15/11 6:27 AM
Finally found an add on that stops the "new tab most visited" display.  The history wipe on exit would be really useful.
Still don't understand why Google makes retaining personal privacy on ones own device such a hassle??
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? DonAtlGa 10/15/11 6:49 AM
Got it - "Click and Clean" is excellent for the History issues, and "New Tab Redirect!" fixes the display of most popular sites on new tabs.Seems it really is all about the extensions. Thank you, extension people!
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? bialybob 12/22/11 6:10 PM
If IE has an option to remove browsing history on exiting,Google can do it too. I am guessing they are making too much $$$$ by not giving users this option. Even though I like the browser I am going to use IE until Google makes it easy to delete all history on exiting.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? 4xFish 1/4/12 2:35 PM
Just installed Chrome to see what all the hype is about.  Can't find the simple "Delete History On Exit" option.  Back to IE until Google fixed this.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? LeChamp 1/5/12 7:44 AM
As stated above, back to Firefox.  "Delete History on Exit" is not something complicated to have as an option "Under the Hood".  You have to ask if anyone at Google reads these comments.

Great browser however other than the lack of this one important feature.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? tpaslay 2/8/12 2:24 PM
Left IE to try Firefox. Firefox dropped the Autofil feature...so I went to Chrome....now it is back to IE until Google fixes the browser Auto erase on shutdown.  And I do agree...who at Google ever checks out the blogs?
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? The Real Jeremiah 2/13/12 11:31 AM
Click&Clean is entirely too heavy of an app for this simple issue, IMO. (Besides that, its handling of cookie whitelisting is awkward at best.) I prefer using "Vanilla" extension for cookie whitelisting and "AutoClear" extension to automatically delete browsing history. (Caveat: AutoClear deletes history on Chrome launch; not on Chrome exit.)
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? The Real Jeremiah 2/13/12 11:40 AM
Forgot to add... This should, OF COURSE, be a standard feature within Chrome and IS a deal-breaker for most users still hanging on to FireFox. For Chrome to be on build 17, or whatever it is now, without this simple option is a pretty clear indicator that Google has no interest in providing it. (Conspiracy Theory Mode: ON - Tracking our moves much?)
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? teschek 2/29/12 10:41 AM
Okay, here's the best answer for those who want to clear their history on exit. Simply use Chrome in "incognito" mode. You can have it run incognito all the time by editing the properties of your Chrome icon to put a -incognito switch after the Target path.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? Tools / 4/30/12 1:34 PM
I can no longer find Tools. So how do I get Tools back in order to set my settings  to erase history when I exit.
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? Tools / 4/30/12 1:49 PM
I found Tools; it had been changed to this little "wrench" icon on my far right side of the screen. Why can't I just have the normal bar that shows Tools and the other normal columns?!
Re: How to Clear History Automatially Upon Exit? Mobiyan 5/17/12 12:28 PM
Ok on Mac I created a small shell script with the following line:

rm /Users/YOURUSER/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Chrome/Default/History*

and I added it to the crontab to run every 10 minutes (You can use Lingon 3 if you don't know Cron)

this basically delete all history every 10 minutes.

Hi,There is an excellent tool which works independently from the Chrome browser which deletes history,Temp files, cache and so many .It also use less memory unlike some Chrome extensions. It is from www.sourceforge.net it is IRON CLEANERv4.1.It is really very good tool. You can use it when ever you wish ,it will not start along with the browser like an extension so as to consume less memory.

This option only enables us to remove cookies then closing browser. but the websites we have seen are still available in the view history option.

we can Disable both ‘Autofill’ & ‘Save Password’ on the ‘password and forms’ option for better privacy.
