|McAfee blocked problem||likeRAWR||3/18/10 6:37 AM|
I have McAfee Total Protection antivirus and used it with no problem for weeks.
A block popup came up today and without reading it properly I pressed the block button and now Google Chrome doesn't work.
Is there any way I can get Google Chrome approved to work again?

By "Chrome doesn't work", do you mean Chrome cannot open? Chrome opens but cannot view webpages?
If you turned off McAffee Total Protection, then does Chrome work?
|Re: McAfee blocked problem||likeRAWR||3/18/10 9:37 AM|
It opens with the message
"This web page is not available"
Internet Explorer works fine but want Chrome to work again as I find it much faster.

likeRAWR, go to Wrench icon > Options > Under the hodd. Uncheck "Enable phishing and malware protection". Click Close to apply.

Still comes up with the message

I've got the same problem, I did that and it still didn't work. Currently using firefox. But Chrome is faster :(

supajourno, different computer setups can cause the problem. What popup error did you get? What version of Chrome and operating system are you using?

I had the same problem with chrome (IE & FF worked fine). Though I had Chrome with full permissions under Firewall settings for McAfee Total Protection it wouldn't run. Snoozing the McAfee FW remedied the problem. So I just restored the FW default settings and everything is good again. Best of Luck, Skoootch!

In error, I too blocked Google Chrome using McAfee Internet Security. Through reading many suggestions, I found the best solution on the McAfee site, which does not include uninstalling Chrome or McAfee. =) Please see below:
To unblock: Right-click the Mcafee shield icon and choose the following: change settings/firewall/program permissions. Now, scroll down the list until you find the program blocked in error, choose it by clicking the name of the program/click edit (look down by bottom for edit button),three choices are given from the drop down menu for your program: full (incoming & outgoing permissions), outgoing, ( I have always been advised to choose outgoing only, this way, I will be prompted if a program requests to receive incoming traffic, which could be potentially harmful to your machine/information), or block Obviously do not choose block.
This worked for me! There is NO reason to uninstall mcafee –or----google chrome. I recommend never uninstalling your system’s internet security system, for obvious reasons, unless you are in the presence of a professional: somebody experienced in the field of computers and internet security.

I have had the same experience, and was able to deal with it by resetting the firewall defaults. But my worry is why is this happening? have done a full McAfee scan on my machine. Is there some odd activity going on of which current anti virus and anti trojan programmes are unaware?

Gyles, there is a McAfee update. It has mistakenly identified Chrome as a virus.

Awesome description. I have no idea what a hodd is or other acronyms referred to. Boo to mcaffee though. When an aid hinders more than helps it's time to end the relationship.

In error, I too blocked Google Chrome using McAfee Internet Security. My problem is that McAfee Internet Security trail period expired (and it still block Chrome ???) This what I got >>>>
Unable to access the network
Google Chrome is having trouble accessing the network.
This may be because your firewall or antivirus software wrongly thinks Google Chrome is an intruder on your computer and is blocking it from connecting to the Internet.
Here are some suggestions:
Try adding Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
Error 138 (net::ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED): Unable to access the network. >>> when in McAfee I cannot get to settings it's blocked. I was thinking to go with AVG latest 2011 free anti virus but meantime any suggestions????? I'm missing Chrome and forced to use Mozilla or Internet Explorer???!!!!! Thanks

Reason-- Mc afee thinks google chrome is an intruder.
uninstall chrome first
install chrome again
After this Mc Afee will ask u, whether to
"Allow always" or
"Allow once" or
Google chrome has a feature
"synch bookmarks" with your "google account"
so I had no problem to get my original bookmarks back

I have a very simple answer, delete Mcafee, and cancel your subscription to your Visa.... install AVG, works for me.

If your McAfee is expired and it's blocking Chrome, I've found that you can do a system restore on your computer to return the firewall to its previous settings. It's not the most elegant solution, but it's the only one that worked for me - since I didn't want to delete or disable McAfee and it's settings were all blocked off.
