|google chrome browser won't refresh page||mobiltec||1/24/09 8:59 PM|
I just updated one of my websites and now I go to check it on chrome and it hasn't changed from the last update. I tried refreshing/reloading the page several times but to no avail. How to I get it to refresh automatically upon each reload?

I've got the same problem. Even restarting the machine isn't working.

You may have to delete the old cookies for new updates to take affect.

I have been trying to figure out to do the same thing for the same reasons, need to check my website after I make a change. I was able to make the site reload by typing www in front of the site URL and it did bring up the refreshed page. This does not fix the problem and I would welcome a better solution so I can test my site with Chrome.

I too finally just uninstalled Google Chrome. Like many things that involve Google, nothing works right. Including You Tube.

On my site it did refresh the main page, but not the frames on the site.
Even with ctrl-F5 and triple F5 it kept showing a page which is in the history books by now.
When I opened the frames separately and refreshed them the problem was solved.
It is a workaround for what clearly is a bug.
The "right-click refresh" would be helpful here.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||MarkHawley||12/7/09 1:27 PM|
Depending on how the web page was constructed, you can do one of two things:
(1) Right-click in the web page and select "Reload" from the pop-up window. This works for many pages.
(2)In the upper right hand corner of the browser window, select the Wrench (tool-looking) icon, then select "Clear browsing data..." from the drop-down list. A pop-up window will appear; make sure "Empty the cache" is checked, if not, click on the empty box. Then select the "Clear Browsing Data" button at the bottom of the pop-up window. The next time you visit the page it will show the changes. This works for all pages.
I am still looking for how to set the browser to *always* reload a web page from the host, not from cache.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||batjed||2/8/10 12:38 PM|
I had the same problem and my site is composed of frames. As mentioned above, I was able to open the pages that are within the frames and refresh them to get it to work so that when I load the main page with the frameset, it now loads the updated page. This won't help your site's users though if they view your site using chrome and they have the old page in their cache.

Still not fixed
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||happy1942||3/1/10 4:58 AM|
Mark Hawley's answer correct - but it worked this way on my computer: Click on WRENCH (tool looking icon at top right of Chrome page as Mark says) ) then click on as follows: OPTIONS, PERSONAL STUFF, CLEAR BROWSING DATA. On the drop down page that shows, un-tick everything except EMPTY CACHE. (You only need to empty the cache in order to allow chrome to refresh page) . Chose how far you want to go back in your clearing of cache (see box beneath "CLEAR DATA FROM THIS PERIOD) Then click on CLEAR BROWSING DATA. Thank you so much Mark - I'd been trying to refresh my new altered website page as viewed in Chrome for 3 days.

ha ha, i found from wikipedia:
Reloading a page:
Press the Shift key and browsers Reload-button to reload ignoring cache.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||carrzkiss||4/30/10 5:21 AM|
I tried what "MarkHawley" and "happy1942" suggested.
By the way, in the newer version of Google Chrome, it is not located in the [Personal Stuff] it is now located [Under the hood].
I have to open a new page and paste my url in it, in order to get all the data.
Google Chrome seems to drop all my css settings, like they do not exist, until I open
A new tab and load the url again, then it opens it properly and without issue.
This is a bug in Google Chrome that needs to be fixed if they plan on becoming the best browser available, like they state it to be, right now I see it as just a test dummy for the sites that I create to make sure that they all work properly within the different browsers available.
And my sites work across the board for all browsers, it is just the Chrome sucks at working like it is suppose to work (Like a web browser)

I had this frustrating problem too. Thanks for the answer!
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||andyfi24||8/30/10 7:43 PM|
Mine does it if I hit the refresh icon , but on Firefox as soon as I moved my mouse the page refreshed. I guess chrome just doesn't refresh automatically.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||Erglmop||9/1/10 9:46 AM|
v 5.0.375.127, same problem. The only way to refresh the page was to delete history. Shift-refresh did not work. This is not a good 'feature'.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||jonjamesharris||2/12/11 12:59 AM|
ctrl F5 did the trick for me.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||transitoffice||4/6/11 9:42 AM|
On my site it did refresh the main page, but not the frames on the site.Even with ctrl-F5 - thumbs up
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||ecomguy2||6/3/11 10:49 AM|
On another discussion group I found the recommendation to open an incognito window (which doesn't store pages, cookies, etc.). Incognito pages can be opened by clicking the Wrench icon, then "New incognito window". That worked for me, but it's a workaround, not a solution.
Some questions and comments for Google's Chrome developers: Why hasn't this been fixed yet? It's been over two years since mobiltec raised this issue, and judging from the responses on this page and my own experience just now, nothing has been done to fix it for regular Chrome pages. If you want the public to take your browser seriously, you need to take user feedback like this seriously.

Right click on webpage.
Select reload frame (not reload) and voila job done

|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||jed eichel||12/4/11 2:55 PM|
Okay, I just flamed Google Chrome about this. Now, I have to provide a solution, at least as far as developers are concerned.
On your web page, open google dev. tools. Go to audit, then have the page reloaded for a full audit. It will actually...get this...
Get the page file from the server! If you want to permanently skip this headache as far as checking changes in your own web pages,
you can do the following:
-- Click on the Chrome "Wrench", go to options, then in the options tab, choose "Under the Hood".
-- Click the "Content Settings" button.
-- Click the "Manage Settings" button.
-- Add a new profile to the list of exemptions. My stuff is on the localhost domain, so I just typed in "localhost/*" (which ended up being shortened to "localhost")
-- Choose "Session Only".
This worked for me. I don't have to close the tab, I just have to hit "reload" and the updated page shows up. I haven't checked, but I suppose that only session data is stored for my pages now. What about the rest of the net? I'm still a newbie, so I don't know how much this affects off-site stuff. But as far as my developing flow goes, I don't have to cuss as much now.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||jed eichel||12/8/11 8:58 AM|
One more follow-up, as my last suggestion didn't solve the issue completely:
I am using XAMPP for development. As a newcomer, this has allowed me to focus on writing php scripts without having to really configure server settings. Unfortunately, it also means that my understanding of how a server might handle caching has been delayed.
As it turns out, at least part of my problem had nothing to do with Chrome. XAMPP was set up to cache some parts of the page (I assume, the parts that it considers non-dynamic, such as the css files.). I had to go into the php.ini file to disable the eaccelerator extension. I won't tell you how to do that, as you can look it up elsewhere. But now that I've disabled it, my browser is rendering my pages as intended.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||GaanamNair||12/13/11 2:36 AM|
1. The refresh icon
3. Ctrl + F5
4. Shft + F5
5. Right click and Reload
6. Deleting cookies and history
7. Closing and reopening browser
...and nothing seems to work. Its giving me a hard time testing web pages in localhost as well as when I upload it in the server too. I still use chrome because of many other good reasons but I'll have to drop it forever if chrome doesn't leave the habit of reloading web pages from cache.

Firefox refreshes the page properly.
Chrome does not.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||sharonlareah1||3/9/12 5:01 AM|
"Clear browsing data" worked for me. Thanks everyone!!!
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||stefstav||3/28/12 9:34 AM|
ok people! I am happy to say, I THINK i have the solution!!
i've had this problem for months now, ctrl+F5 did it, but that's not a solution..
of course by erasing the cookies it also worked, but there's a reason for cookies (personalised setup in sites, certain preferences), and that's not a solution too, considering you have to do it every time
Just today I saw a default selected checkbox described smthing like "Predicting network operations to improve page load performance", in chrome://settings/advanced . Uncheck, close and reload chrome and.. it works for me until now..:)
chrome ver. 17.0.963.83 m
hope it helps

|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||genom||6/3/12 12:44 PM|
Sadly didn't work for me. Chrome suddenly started to do this error in facebook and then the login page of this forum. Now I am transferring to firefox. Actually it was the time, as it is open source. Very sad for chrome, because it was the fastest. But unfunctional super fast browser doesn't make any sense...
By the way in incognite mode everything works fine... This is stupid. I don't want to clear all of my data. Firefox is as fast as chrome when I delete all the history. I think both browsers differentiate there, as chrome is faster with the history data.
|Re: google chrome browser won't refresh page||astrolab||8/1/12 7:06 PM|
Wow Genum I just reproduced your 'error' -- an Incognito window loads the site fine, but regular chrome window wont reload.
Shift F5, control F5, right click 'load frame'. Is there another arcane trick I dont know about?
Screen sample of regular chrome window, still loading outdated files from before site was built. other browsers, cell phone load it fine now, as does an incognito window.
