How do I exit from the Full Screen mode? ( it keeps popping back to that mode ) KingOfTheHuns 2/24/10 8:57 AM
Please describe your question/comment in detail (for example, steps to reproduce the problem):

Chrome starts in fullscreen mode in my secondary monitor. There is no way to go back to normal mode, when I hit F11 or click on the "Exit full screen" bubble, it flashes and goes back to fullscreen mode. I have to use Ctrl+N just to even enter a URL...

For others to best assist you in troubleshooting scenarios, please also provide the following:
Google Chrome version (type in about:version into the address bar):

Chrome :5.0.307.9 (Official Build 39052 ) beta
Webkit : 532.9
V8 : 2.0.6.6

Operating System:

Linux - Ubuntu9.10 / 2.6.31-19-generic i686

Thanks, but as I explained above, it just pops right back to fullscreen mode. I press F11, it flashes than goes back to fullscreen mode.

@Qaxe, Yes i have read the full text.
But if you press the F11 key (double) then it exit some time also the fullscreen.

If it still doesn't work, the it must be a bug in the Linux browser. (here in Windows works it fine)
Or maybe other know this problem also?

Ok, this is indeed a bug. If the browser exits in full-screen mode, the next time it gets invoked the F11 ( nor any of the window manager ) commands don't work, it pops right back to full-screen. The only way to get out of this is to get a new window with Ctrl+N ( which comes up in non-full-screen mode ) and kill the full-screen window with X. Definitely a bug.

My Dell Mini9 (Inspiron 910) does not have an F11 key KEY LABELED.  to get F10 I have to hold Fn and ; keys
F11 is Fn Z and F12 is Fn X

I saw no way to exit or enter an address.. but I did find shift-esc brings up a chromium task manager where I can switch windows...  it might be nice to control full screen settings there.

I'm seeing this problem too.  I think this is related to the fact that I have two monitors as I don't see it on other machines with just one monitor.  According to the link below this has been seen on both Linux and Windows:

I get this problem with version 5.0.375.99.  I only have one screen on my netbook so it's a rather debilitating problem.

Re: How do I exit from the Full Screen mode? ( it keeps popping back to that mode ) jtrogan 1/27/11 5:15 PM
To all the other people saying they notice the same behavior, are you guys on 1 monitor?

I'm using my netbook and I hit f11 to go into fullscreen, then when I hit f11 again, it comes out of fullscreen but is missing the address bar and the top part where you close the browser.  Another side effect is it appears to be stuck on top of all the other windows.  Since I'm using my netbook, I have very little screen and there's only a small crack with which I can find the processes (remember that chrome is stuck in my foreground on top).

Does this sound like the same issue as what you guys are having?

When I clicked on F11 to return to normal screen, what happened was the same as for jtrogan, just address bar and tabs were showing and disappeared when cursor was moved elsewhere on the screen. What I discovered, totally by accident, was to hold my cursor OVER the remaining upper toolbar while hitting F11, then it worked and went back to normal screen.

TRY THIS:
Mouse up to (or touch) the top-center of the screen and you should get a drop-down tab saying "Exit Full Screen (F11)"
Click it and find yourself in standard mode.
Hope that helped!

BTW - F11 did not work for me, and Shift-Ctrl-F did not work either either.

Found solution on ubuntuforums.org

Uninstall google-chrome package. delete the google-chrome folder from ~/.config folder and then fresh install google-chrome package again. Magically FullScreen functions perfect after this process.

Even don´t need to uninstall, just delete the chromium directory from ~/.config folder. It will works again normally.

I have same problem with Crome 17.0.963.56 and Ubuntu 10.10. When i used second moitor with my nootebook. Chrome entered in  Full Screen Mode and can not exit from it.
I'm disconnect second monitor off and refresh display configuration in ubuntu. With one screen configuration Chome exit from full screen with F11 normal.
Then i'm connect second monitor back, refresh display configuration again and continue work with Chrome in Normal Window Mode...

I have. My laptop started doing it first, with both Firefox and IE. I have Googled it and still can't figure out why. I originally thought it was because i was using two monitors (on both desktop and laptop but nope, i disconnected the second monitor and it still does it. It is definitely random. It has been doing it for the last 5 minutes (a real pain when trying to type) and has just stopped doing it....again. Will plow through these replies with hope lol.
Anyway, yeah...happens on one screen too. I just hit the Alt key and it stops. Hope that helps anyone else.

It depends on what operating system your are using and which browser.

I'm sure this won't help, but on an OS X (or iMac), using Google Crome, all you have to do is move the curser to the top of the screen reveling the hidden top menu bar of your computer, where you navigate.

From there you go to the top righthand corner, and highlighted in a blue square/rectangular shape are two arrows diagonal from each other pointing inward, (opposite from when you enlarge the screen when the arrows are pointed outward.)

Click on the icon and the screen will readjust to its normal size.

I know by what you wrote that you are using Linux, but for me personally, all keyboard shortcuts didn't work, so this is another option. It took me a while to figure it out, but once I did I literally felt stupid since it would seem like the most simplest thing to do.

Anyway I hope this helps
