How do I change the default font/size? Andy42 1/21/09 12:36 PM
Is there a way to control the font and size used when the HTML doesn't specify a specific font? I can only configure fonts for serif, sans serif, and fixed width, none of which are used for content that doesn't specify a font. In that case, text is shown in Times New Roman in a size that's smaller than I would like. It seems like there should be a way to configure this.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? ChrisBedford 2/15/09 2:13 PM
No responses on this one? I agree, Rimes Roman - not only too small, U-U-U-U-U-U-R-G-L-Y. So old-fashioned...

So, let's make this question: how do we log this BUG with the G-men?
Re: How do I change the default font/size? kevinstonge 2/15/09 4:07 PM
I agree that this should be a setting in Chrome, however, until the setting becomes available, editing the 'Preferences' file may provide some relief... I haven't actually tried this myself, so let me know if it works.

Using text editor to open "Documents and Settings\User_Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Preferences"
Look for the section of code that looks like the following example (if its not in the file, try adding it yourself)
   "webkit": {
      "webprefs": {
         "default_fixed_font_size": 11,
         "default_font_size": 12,
         "fixed_font_family": "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono",
         "minimum_font_size": 12,
         "minimum_logical_font_siz": 12,
         "sansserif_font_family": "Times New Roman",
         "serif_font_family": "Arial",
         "standard_font_is_serif": false,
         "text_areas_are_resizable": true
      }
   }

THE BEST SOLUTION IS TO USE FIREFOX / OPERA  FOR 99% OF SEARCHES ,HOW CAN YOU PUT A SUB PRIME PRODUCT "CHROME" WITH A MAJOR TWEAK AS THE FONT OR SCREEN IMAGES NOT BEING ABLE TO BE ADJUSTED OBVIOUSLY THE GOOGLE PEOPLE ARE COMPLACENT ABOUT THEIR USERS.THIS WOULD BE LIKE BUYING A TWIN TURBO PORSCHE WITH HONDA CIVIC BRAKES YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET THE BEST OUT OF IT.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? pbmerritt 4/27/09 5:10 AM
For an old man with a net book, one really needs to be able to set a larger default text size.  Let us hope this happen soon; or else....
Re: How do I change the default font/size? cbwilsha 5/4/09 8:50 AM
I tried kevinstonge's solution above and the changes get made in "Preferences" but still nothing changes with the browser!!! Very frustrating.

Before you get down on Chrome, use the text zoom feature in the control this page menu (next to the tool box symbol.)

I haven't figured out what the font/size utility does either and fault the people who wrote the instructions, not the folks who put the package together.

Re: How do I change the default font/size? avin 6/3/09 1:17 AM
I agree. This works less well than on the fox (and even on xplorer). I'd like to be able to ignore the font size on web pages, so i"d not have to zoom each page. Also, zooming zooms everything, not just text. And sometime it doesn't flow correctly.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? odiss50 8/25/09 6:04 PM
OK! I see that "Chrome" allows you to adjust your own suitable size fonts on the web page! Is that right?
Re: How do I change the default font/size? elicollins 9/4/09 6:22 PM
The default fonts are part of the UI now. See http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95416

Options -> Minor tweaks|Under the hood -> Change fonts and language settings
Re: How do I change the default font/size? moat888 11/23/09 9:37 AM
I am new to Chrome. Currently changing font size is way too difficult, way too many steps.  Often I need to change font size from small to big and then back to small again. IE allows me to do this with ease. How someone will fix this obvious problem.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? GeoffreyDC 11/23/09 9:58 AM
@moat888 Just use Ctrl + and Ctrl - for on-the-fly changes.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? nsimeonov 12/2/09 7:32 PM
How about holding Ctrl and rotating the wheel of your mouse? This works too. Ctrl+0 sets it back to normal.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? MBarr 12/5/09 10:59 PM
That works, but it's absolutely ridiculous to have to do that for every single web page. And it's not like those settings are saved for future visits to the web site either.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? RaduM 12/22/09 11:37 AM
Mbarr,
I agree.  I am trying chrome (IE6 is becoming obsolete)
I want to run a "minimalist" browser, don't need nor want zillions of toolbars taking my screen.
This font issue is (won't say it).
IMO, same as MS.  Someone knows better..
NO, I DON'T WANT TO PRESS CTRL++ EVERY TIME I GO SOMEWHERE.
Anyone figured out a peremanent way yet?
No, kevinstonge.  There's no "webkit" in my preferences.  Must've been last year's version.
Hope there is a way.
OH.  I'd also like to have a way to get to bookmarks without an extra line on the top.  Maybe I missed a "favorites" icon on the top, next to the address?  The "star" is to bookmark.
Maybe I should take a few days before I slam Chrome?
Other than fonts and the button mentioned and wanting everything on one line, I have no issues.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? eugenio22 12/22/09 2:14 PM
I agree. I love this browser but hate that I have to zoom every page in order to read it. The option "change font and language settings" is grayed out for me on a mac!!! I hate that and will have to switch back to Firefox. Fix it please!
Re: How do I change the default font/size? RaduM 12/22/09 7:10 PM
eugenio,
You're not missing anything.
The "change font" option has no effect.
So far the ctrl-plus is the only option.
I'm disappointed too, I do like the clean interface.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? RaduM 12/28/09 2:16 PM
If you want to use CHrome AND have decent fonts, there's an add-in which will increase (and remember) fnt size.
However, add-ins don't work with the current version, you will need to download/install the BETA (I have, and no problems so far)
Chrome beta at http://www.google.com/landing/chrome/beta/
Add-in
at:

https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/ocdkpkoaonnchdakgkmmcmnihhhgbjch

 Keyboard control (Ctrl + "[", Ctrl + "]", Ctrl + "\")
Version 0.9.5 - Wednesday, December 23, 2009

Install Chrome beta first, then "go" to link above for the add-in.
Have fun!
Re: How do I change the default font/size? atrick1 12/28/09 5:05 PM
What do us poor Mac people do?  Looks like the beta is for Windows users only.  :-(
Re: How do I change the default font/size? RaduM 12/30/09 10:59 AM
atrick,
Did you look in the mac place?
http://www.google.com/chrome?platform=mac
They have a beta, not sure if it has the same features.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? atrick1 12/30/09 11:14 AM
Yes, I'm running the latest beta, and unfortunately, when I got to the page you referenced above, I get:
"Google Chrome Extensions are not supported on Mac yet. We are working to enable them soon."
Re: How do I change the default font/size? yaser1987 1/16/10 6:07 PM
how can i change it ... ??
Re: How do I change the default font/size? SteveBear 3/7/10 6:12 PM
For Windows users...

Click the Tools  menu.
Select Options.
Click the Under the Hood tab.
In the "Web Content" section, click Change fonts and language settings.

As for Mac users, hopefully a solution comes along soon.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? Toni (Googler) 3/11/10 7:05 PM
Hey guys,

It looks like there are two different types of requests here, one for the ability to change the type of font, and one about the font size being too small. If you have concerns about font size, I've commented on a related thread about what we're doing to help alleviate this issue here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=389f306a52817110&hl=en&fid=389f306a5281711000048191965dc494

If you want to be able to override the font specification of the website author, you can check out the following request to track progress on this front: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=2393

Hope this helps,

Toni

Nah, it sucks.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? molex 4/5/10 8:35 AM
So miniscule fonts are the only option on Chrome?  Google Chrome = complete fail.  Back to firefox.

And don't bother letting me know when this idiotic oversight gets fixed, if Google is releasing software with such glaring omissions from the start I have no interest in using them in the future.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? sfa10 4/13/10 9:51 AM
If you go to the Options and then click on the "Under the Hood" tab, scroll down to the "Web Content" section.  There is a button that reads "Change font and language settings".  Here, you can change the font type and size to whatever you'd like.  Hope this helps.

well it would be nice if this would work.  every time that i try to change the fonts size  it revert back without saving the choice that I've made,  It was like this before and is still like this now...  this must be an easy thing to fix  how come they can't fix that damn bug once and for all... another chrome version that will be ignored because we can't read the web page .
Re: How do I change the default font/size? lanoel72 4/21/10 2:48 PM
I did permanently increased the font size by going to Control Panel and selecting Font and increasing size to 150%. It was fine for reading but playing games on the internet I couldn't see the full page, size was to big. But if you plan on using to strictly read, IT WORKS!
Re: How do I change the default font/size? AntiYuppie14 5/9/10 4:38 PM
Tied the "under the hub" option and it doesn't work.
Back to Firefox!
Google is fast becoming a new Microsoft.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? rejmarch 5/9/10 4:41 PM
this problem is not fixed yet ?  are they sleeping or what ?  such an important bug should be fixed ASAP.

See AutoZoom extension.  Works great. I mentioned it in a 12/23/09 post.

Re: How do I change the default font/size? Darkstar99 9/14/10 8:16 AM
I have the same problem, I don't see the "web content" part. I'm also using the latest beta version
Re: How do I change the default font/size? WestLookingEast 9/25/10 5:17 AM
Click on the Spanner Icon (Customise and control Google Chrome) on the top right of this page (under the red (close window) X)).
Now Click on Options and when the option window opens, click the "Under the Bonnet" tab.
You will see the following headings:

Privacy
Network
Translate
Downloads
Web Content
Security

Scroll down to Web Content and you will see a button called "Change font and language settings" - click on it.
There you will be able to change the font and font size.

I have increased the font size in Chrome in order to read many web pages easily. Unfortunately, nearly all web pages I then went to did not display correctly.  This is how I came to find this thread.
Instead, I would suggest you use the zoom function located under the "Customise and control Google Chrome" spanner icon - the 5th option down

Best of luck all
Re: How do I change the default font/size? gregrocker 9/25/10 11:20 PM
I come back here about once a year to see if Google has figured out that millions won't use their browser because you cannot change the font size permanently for all web pages as you can in every other browser.  Why does this not get through to you?  There is no Web Content choice on the Under the Hood menu, never has been as far as I know.

I have to say that as a tech Guru I don't think I've ever seen such a clueless performance from a supposed cutting edge tech company.  You simply don't know or care that millions are turned away from using your browser because the type size has to be changed from tiny on every single page and tab.

For this, you get the Most Clueless Techies of All Time award.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? WestLookingEast 9/26/10 2:20 AM
Gregrocker, please see my post. above. You CAN change the font size.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? StevenCee 9/26/10 2:37 AM
I'm pretty much dumbfounded..... How can a browser not allow you to set fonts & sizes????   The directions in the Help direct you to a place that doesn't exist, which even more wack!  What's up Google????
Re: How do I change the default font/size? WestLookingEast 9/26/10 2:57 AM
StevenCee - You CAN. Please see my post above.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? nooo 11/3/10 12:58 AM
All is explained perfectly right here:
http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95416
the under the hood tab has a scroll bar on the right - scroll down to find the amazing and illusive web content section :)
enjoy
Re: How do I change the default font/size? bhartman38 12/7/10 4:57 PM
nooo and WestLookingEast:

Changing the settings in Fonts and Encoding under Web Content has no effect.  None.  I'm not sure where you're changing the fonts, but the font settings in the browser interface are absolutely useless.  And I agree with others who've said that this is far too long to have this kind of a problem.  Google needs to fix this or withdraw Google Chrome entirely.  It's just embarrassing.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? DamePinky 12/17/10 6:16 PM
I started using Chrome last week, and love the speed.  I have successfully been able to change the font type and font size without any problem.  It's uncomplicated.  If you are a IE user, you probably over-thought it.  Try what WestLookingEast above posted.  You have to SCROLL DOWN to get to the Web Content button.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? gxg 12/18/10 3:23 AM
The options are now available in the beta channel, see the article below:
Re: How do I change the default font/size? vasa1 12/18/10 7:11 AM
gxg, thanks for the tip. I hope Google will provide smaller increments or, even better, customizable settings.
Re: How do I change the default font/size? Jazteam2010 1/10/11 6:43 PM
I have found the answer. I've had this problem for a year know so I searched (since everything is on the internet) and I found it.

http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95416- if that doesn't work then.....

Then if you go to the Options and then click on the "Under the Hood" tab, scroll down to the "Web Content" section.  There is a button that reads "Change font and language settings".  Here, you can change the font type and size to whatever you'd like. Thank You
Re: How do I change the default font/size? maya089 2/8/11 6:05 AM
no way to config font size and font family in Chrome???  you guys art google are kidding, right??   this is retarded....    why do you guys ALWAYS have to make products with these pain-in-the-ass hindrances?  (no folders in Gmail, that's the most retarded of all.... and no, labels are NOT the same... )    you guys are just like M$, always assuming you know what the user wants...
Re: How do I change the default font/size? yuanyi 3/7/11 8:39 PM

The BEST SOLUTION, NOW I SIMPLY LOVE THIS BROWSER!!!
Re: How do I change the default font/size? theckman 8/30/11 11:25 AM
Seems like a bunch of people in this thread need to disable cruise control.

The feature exists.  However, it does not appear to work in my browser.  It's only a problem on Arch Linux (for me) where some of the fonts look a bit strange.

I guess I'll look at submitting a bug report instead of just spewing nonsense with "Caps Lock" enabled.

Re: How do I change the default font/size? A person you know 1/11/12 2:39 AM
I when to options then I went to under the hood, then I clicked customize fonts. When I finished it didn't change, but when I downloaded something and Google chrome closed. When I opened it the fonts changed and YAY!!!!!
