My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? joshysm 12/22/08 10:18 PM
My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords, even with 'offer to save passsword' option selected from tools->Options->minor tweaks. Is ther any way??
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? mitell 12/23/08 11:47 AM
I have a similar problem... yet not entirely - I accidentally clicked the "never for this site" when I did actually want to save, and now it also isn't offering to save the login information for that site. I too would love some advice!
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Boredom 12/23/08 12:59 PM
I think the only way to fix that, as far as I know, is to clear your passwords completely, i.e. Settings -> Clear Browsing Data -> Clear Saved Passwords, and select everything.  That way, it will ask if you want to save the password for a site that you might have accidently clicked "Do not save password".  It is a hassle and I hope future updates will fix this.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? mitell 12/23/08 6:59 PM
I actually just tried that and it's still not prompting to save for that particular site
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? jdud 12/27/08 2:17 AM
This is probably the most annoying aspect of Chrome for me - there is no way to change one's mind and simply "reset password preferences" for one particular page.  It is a well known irritation as one finds on googling a few select terms, and has been so since September.  PLEASE Google - do something about this !
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? inearlygaveup 12/30/08 12:56 AM
I have the same problem.
I have removed and re-installed Chrome a couple of times now and asked it to import all settings and passwords from Firefox.
But it still will not import the password for the particular site I want it to remember..............
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? jdud 12/30/08 2:06 AM
Dear Google

I am about to change my username to "I am giving up" and will migrate back to Firefox.  Right now Chrome is more trouble than it's worth ...

If you have the time I would highly recommend reading this article. Not so much the posts by other people, just the article and try to pay attention to what the person is saying.

Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? mana1954 1/10/09 3:49 AM
Me too!  I seldom get  an offer to save password.  Firefox looks sooooooooo appealing!
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? jdud 1/10/09 6:00 AM
Dear bmruze

I have read the article and I think I understand the philosophy behind the pwd protection approach taken by google.

BUT ... there is a genuine bug (this is what most users would call it I think) with Chrome in that if you go to a password protected site and, by mistake (to err is human ...), select the option NOT to save the password, Chrome decides that this choice will remain forever.  There appears no way to undo this erroneous choice. Simply giving an option to fix this would be a huge help.

But I am slowly migrating back to Firefox 3 these days - Chrome is still a bit faster for a few things and I like the interface better, but needs must as they say.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? hsouvign 1/12/09 8:46 AM
I would call it a major bug, obviously.

I really think to go back to Firefox because of this issue about password management. I don't want to loose my time entering password for all kind of sites (news, forums, games...), some of them absolutely not critical. But I also want to decide freely which pages are critical for my security (bank...) and as a result when I need to reenter the password.

And I don't really see what is so difficult in providing the user an option to manage this option...

Google developers... yoouuuhhhoouuu ! Are you there ?

:D
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? jdud 1/12/09 8:51 AM
Surely there must be an option to specify something like "My Critical Sites" where the user decides and takes responsibility for sites where password management is critical and those for which it is not.  This could be a third option on login pages (and maybe one could have the additional option to say "make all sites critical" or "make all sites noncritical" or something similar.

This does not seem complicated to me and I fail to see why Google is making this a big deal.

Please, Google     Do something about It......
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? primitive 1/24/09 5:34 PM
What about the original question from joshyim ?  He didn't say he had mistakenly clicked "never for this site". And the first one to respond to his question simply said he had a "similar" problem. Let me restate the problem as I see it:  When I go to log in to verizon wireless http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/index.html Chrome doesn't ask if it wants me to save the password. Nor have I ever told Chrome "never for this site". There's something about that website that keeps Chrome from asking. Guess I should be reporting this to Chrome as a bug.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? inearlygaveup 1/25/09 12:52 AM
Well I gave up and went back to Firefox & LastPass
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? primitive 1/25/09 11:22 AM
"kushsh" documented a way to edit the password file using sqlitebrowser . Search for sqlitebrowser and you should find kushsh's post. I've tried the procedure and it works perfectly.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? inearlygaveup 1/25/09 2:01 PM
Thanks "primitive" for your information but can you be a bit more specific, a link to the artical would be really helpfull.

Be sure to close Chrome and then run SQLite Database Browser as an Admin.

For Vista, the path of the Web Data db is: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

Chrome needs some work. I am tired of messing with it.

Let me know when it works
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? ChromeCrazy 2/7/09 10:27 AM
People, Chrome isn't supposed to be 100% like EI and FF... that's why its so great. Its fresh and clean and new, but no one said it was perfect. Chrome is still a "work in progress" and I'm sure the Google Team knows your concern about this issue; why drone on and on about it?
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? ciberboy 2/8/09 6:23 AM
I've found a way to go around the problem. Open IE, write your password, when it ask to save, save it.

Then on Chrome, go to tools-->import-->import saved passwords.

It is not a solution but helps to correct the bug.

Thanks,

ciberboy
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Edwardksf 6/6/09 12:10 PM
I had this same problem and the following solution worked for me. Althou gmail and some sites worked, many didn't, so three days ago, I finally and reluctantly with fingers crossed went to tools / clear browsing data, and cleared EVERYTHING, especially cookies and saved passwords. After that, every site asked me if i wanted to save passwords, and i'm back in business. Hope this helps, I'm running chrome 2.0.172.30.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Jensleo 6/13/09 1:35 PM
This is _very_ annoying. For example, if your girlfriend uses Facebook on your computer and chooses not to save her password for her account Facebook, my stored password will disappear too, forever. Should be simple enough for the Google team to do something about this. Firefox handles this so much better. Other than that Chrome is terrific.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Corman1151 7/31/09 9:40 AM
In response to ciberboy using IE to save a password and then import it. I tried using Firefox to do this and it worked except my password changed in the last few days to the site that I'm having a problem with and it imported the old password, not the new one even though the new one is saved in Firefox. So chrome is pulling the password from the wrong place from Firefox. As far as IE goes, I went to the site in question with IE7 and it crashed every time I tried to log in . . . go figure. So I'm going to try with IE8 and let ya know.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Edwardksf 7/31/09 9:52 AM
I posted the following on one of the other similar strings a few hours ago:
I too had this problem but didn't want to download the dev version which had the fix, so i ended up removing all and redoing everything (my post june 6 above) . But to fix the "chrome prints micro" problem, I did download the Beta version (3.0.193.2) to fix the printing problem and now I've discovered that the "exceptions" tab exists in this version (by now might even be in the stable version). In the Beta version. Go to "wrench", "options," "personal stuff", "passwords," then highlight and "remove" the listing in "exceptions" and the next time you open a site, chrome will ask you if you want to save the password, and you're off and running. This 65 year old has Nooooooo problem with the Beta version (yet, after a week), it's an easy download for anyone.

The solution to your password saving problem is well answered here at this link

Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? -NancyB- 11/6/09 3:02 PM
virgintech.org's answer was to go and delete the offending website for options/personal/passwords/show passwords.

the site wasn't listed

so it didn't work

Thanks for your idea, but it has nothing to do with this problem. It just undoes a setting.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? QQFarmer 1/1/10 8:26 AM
Hasn't anyone heard of an extension called "LastPass"?
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Neophile 1/1/10 8:58 AM
QQFarmer

Yes, that's a good idea, an excellent plug-in. It can go around the issue and make the save passwords usable. It does not "repair" the broken Chrome, but it works - a walking stick.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Amy C 2/3/10 5:06 PM
Not so sure I like sending my encrypted info to Lastpass's servers. Bit risky, if you ask me.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Savon duJour 5/16/10 5:10 PM
Mitell - I also had a single site that I couldn't save the password on no matter what. The extension autocomplete = on fixed it.

Follow the instructions in the following link. Remember to remove all the sites from exceptions tab.

http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95606

After doing this, restart your computer. now Chrome will offer you to save passwords.

I have migrated back to firefox because of this issue, hopefully google will take this more seriously, just can't keep putting the PSW every 15 min or so, in my work website during 8-10 hrs a day. Its actually a little insulting to me, since I devoted time to migrate to their browser based on good feedbacks, and thats not talking about all the time spent trying to fix the issue myself without any success.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? FlaBill1957 9/27/11 1:08 AM
Some 3-4 years after the original question about Chrome not asking to save passwords first was posted, I may have stumbled across a solution, without having to resort to the radical fix of deleting all browsing history and all of the previously saved passwords. Here is what I did: First and foremost, close the site(s) you are concerned with. Then open Tools>Options>Personal Stuff. Then under the 'Passwords' area, make sure the 'Offer To Save Passwords' is checked. This part got me at first: The little circles that you can check/uncheck are a bit confusing - The circle with the open dot in the middle is the chosen one, not the totally blacked out one. After this, open the 'Manage Saved Passwords' option and you will see a list of all of the previously saved passwords. To actually see your password, instead of the 'xxxxxxx', click on the website to highlight it, then click on 'Show' when it come up. On this page, below the 'Saved Passwords', is another box which lists all of the sites we have opted to not save the passwords for. At last, the real culprit shows itself ! Delete these, using the 'X' provided. When I did this action, I deleted all of the sites except one, which I was sure I didn't ever want to save the password for. Use your own discretion here, there may be some sites you just don't want the passwords saved, for whatever reason. Now, just close out of things till you close 'Options' up on the 'Open Tab' row. When you next go to a site you wish to save a password for, do not use the 'Auto-Fill" choices given to you, instead type everything in fresh, even if your Username is one of the drop-down options. I think this may be an important step, by entering your username and password manually you are telling Chrome that you are opening a site with 'new info' that you may want saved, and it will give you that wonderful strip across the top of the page below your Address Bar and Bookmark Links (If you chose to have them on the page, as I do) that offers to save the password for this site, or never for this site. It was so satisfying to see that strip come up when I first tried this. It had been so long that I had been putting up with not having the passwords saved and entered for me when I opened up a site, even my most frequented ones!

Sorry for being so long-winded, but I wanted to explain in detail how I approached this problem. It worked for me, I hope you also have as much success. Best of luck to you! Happy surfing!

-Bill

one simple thing i`ve tried and worked...register username and password in firefox or IE first and then go to options>personal stuff>import data from another browser>select firefox/IE> check the box for passwords and import... It worked for me... try and let me know what happens ...
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? bsweebe 10/4/11 6:39 PM
Has anyone had the problem where the bar that asks you if you want to save the password appears and disappears instantly, so you don't have a chance to make a choice?
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? gsspringer 11/2/11 7:22 AM
I cleared my cache back to the beginning of time and it started saving passwords for the problem sites.

I followed the link to the site and under never save there are no websites/links listed. Yet there are several sites I go to and I do not get the option to save the
password
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Sulcata150 12/6/12 8:42 PM
If you go to the settings, then under  the section titled "Passwords and Forms", there will be a section that says "Offer to save passwords I enter on the web. Manage saved passwords", and the "Manage saved passwords" text will give link to another window that lists the "saved" passwords, and under that lists the "never saved" passwords. From that heading, you can delete a website (by clicking on the "X" to the right of the highlighted website), and that should allow you next time to select "Save Password".
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? oneniner 12/16/12 9:50 AM
Nope, that is the whole problem.  In mine, there is nothing listed in the "never save for this site" box.  It still will not offer to save any passwords for any new or past-visited site.  I have tried unchecking, closing, and rechecking the "offer to save passwords" option..... no change.
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? Geetanjali Jagde 1/10/13 11:22 PM
For Chrome to manage password OR to save OR to See the Password
1)go to setting
2)Preference
3)Personal Stuff
4) third Option is Password
In that u can manage ur password,
for the site may be u selected "Never For this site"
Re: My Chrome is not asking for saving passwords. Is ther any way?? oneniner 1/11/13 7:51 AM
Thanks for the reply.  Yes, I have been through those options many times, and have done the things you suggested.  That is the problem.  They don't work except on a few sites.  On most sites I go to, it still won't offer to save the password. THIS site is one of them.

I found a way to fix the problem. Settings->Show Advanced Settings->Passwords and Forms->Manage Saved Passwords

This worked for me on my Google account.  I havent tested on other websites yet. I have been logging in to my gmail account for a while only using my user name and couldnt understand why Google wasnt saving my password. Google wasn't saving my login because I was only using my Google name and not including the "@gmail.com" in theemail address.
