Hi jszy,

Please follow this :-

1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Open Sounds and Audio Devices .
3. In Sounds tab on Program Events section, select Open program
4. On Sounds section, select (None) on the drop down menu.
5. Apply then OK.

You are done , you wont get that sound anymore !

I tried going to Sounds in the control panel, but "Open Program" didn't have any sounds associated with it (it was set to "(none)")

I also tried playing the sound for every single Program Event, and none of them sounded like the click that chrome makes when I close a tab (albeit, there is a 1 second delay between tab close and the sound). I do think it has something to do with windows however, because the sound chrome makes is different depending on what windows theme I currently have set.

Its driving me bonkers!

I'm on Win7 64bit ultimate

I had this same issue but Open Program was already set to none.  Here are the steps I used to fix it:

1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Open Sounds. (In Windows 7 It's called Sounds not Sounds and Audio Devices)
3. In Sounds tab on Windows Explorer section, select Start Navigation
