How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. neptune1000 2/10/12 6:35 PM
When I click my browser (Google Chrome) I sign in because I need my bookmarks. I know how to sign in, but I don't know how to sign out. I keep on deleting my accounts. Please help me.
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. timmmy_42 2/10/12 8:14 PM
There is no sign out feature, the only thing you can do is to delete the account. With the multiple profiles feature it is very easy to manage.

After installing Chrome on my rebuilt backup PC, I too could not sign out of Chrome. However, I have found that I can sign out of Chrome after signing out of all my Google applications, such as gMail and Google Docs.

Add yourself as a User, Sync, then delete yourself as a user when finished.

This doesnt work, I think google should do a orderly work not making something which makes problems and offload the problem to the final user, FIX IT! This stuff makes real problems for nothing.
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. otg78 5/28/12 12:15 AM
When I want to sign out I use the wrench and scroll to the bottom to Exit.
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Shoepuppy 5/29/12 6:47 PM
Lot of places let you check a box to stay signed in. Is there a reason why we should sign out?
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. atallguynh 6/9/12 12:14 AM
That does not "sign you out" at all. It exits the application, but the next person coming along to the computer can just launch Chrome and see your entire history and so on.

Not having a simple logout process seems like a bizarre oversight by Google -- although it must be very deliberate, just hard to fathom. It's a pretty basic thing to want to share a computer (within a family for instance) and to have a simple way to keep the kids from inadvertently monkeying around with Dad's settings, favorites, etc.

Try wrench menu, Settings, Disconnect your Google account.

NOTE this does NOT remove your history, which is collected at the browser level as far as I can tell.  For this you can try wrench menu, History, Clear all browsing data..., then select which data you want to delete.  But this will presumably delete it permanently for all users.

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Shoepuppy 6/15/12 11:08 PM
So I just clicked in the top right where my user name is anad in the box that opened was, among other things, a box that says "sign out." Don't remember seeing that before, check it out! Shoepuppy
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. atallguynh 6/18/12 3:37 AM
User name in upper right?? I see that for Gmail, not for Chrome itself. The wrench is in the upper right, personal icon/avatar in the upper left. No sign out option under either.
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Shoepuppy 6/18/12 3:10 PM
I don't use g-mail, but on my screen I see my user name in  the upper right. However, upon clicking it, I see that it is actually showing my profile from live.com for some reason. I assumed that it was for this site. Sorry for inputting confusion and delay.

I DO use gmail, my name is in upper right, when opened it shows avatar, view profile option and an add account or sign out option on the bottom, for my Chrome account:)
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. atallguynh 7/8/12 7:14 PM
Nope... that signs you out of Gmail, not Chrome. You'll see your chosen icon still there in the upper left of Chrome after signing out of Gmail.

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. slw154 11/16/12 10:51 AM
I am an old man of 40something and don't know squat about computers, but one thing that is for sure.... that is that your internet is spying on you... and that includes google chrome.

THERE IS A "SIGN OUT FEATURE".... Where your Email address shows on the upper right of your screen showing you're signed in (whether you like it or not)... LEFT CLICK on your Email address at the upper right of the screen... Then it gives you the choice to SIGN OUT of Google Chrome..... Check regularly to see if you're signed in... it's still not stopping somebody from somewhere from knowing where you've been or what you've been doing or who you've been talking to.... but there IS a SIGN OUT option non the less.....
Hope this helps.

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. slw154 11/16/12 10:54 AM
And don't click on that "help.docx".  Who the hell knows what you're letting into your computer by doing so.....

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Nitav 12/10/12 12:42 PM
Hello guys,
I think may be i can help,
I know that there is an option for sign out but the data which is synchronized before will not be deleted. Only the option is :-
1. Go to "Wrench menu".
2. Click "on Settings".
3. Go to the "Users".
4. On the "Users" tab, click on "Delete this user" and click "yes" to the promt.
5. A new chrome window will open asking you for that new Chrome sync.
6. Dont panic, close the old chrome which is on the back side of new Chrome.
7. And that's it, use your new safe & secure Chrome without any of your data attached with it, anywhere.!!!

try going to menu > settings > users
create a new user
delete the user you're currently using

I think you are mistaken.
it deletes all the previous data and makes a new fresh chrome.
it is not saving anything, for sure..
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. caver_tim 12/20/12 10:40 AM

I've disconnected chrome - such that the menu now says "sign in to chrome"
restarted...
But my bookmarks and passwords are still on my browser
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. ConfusedGirl? 12/30/12 11:19 AM
I had the same problem. Well, I went to my history and then clicked settings. Where there was an option right next to, sign in to Chrome; on the left of it says "Disconnect Your Google Account..." - click that option and you'll be signed out. Then a message will appear, you read it and then you click Disconnect Account. That is the way that I found out and it seems to work. So, good luck with that! :)

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. lattatude 1/4/13 10:32 AM
Totally agree here, that it is a likely intentional omission of a signout/logoff feature. I think it's ridiculous and is really the only thing preventing me from switching from FireFox to Chrome completely. Privacy and security should not take priority over agenda. Bad Google. BAD. Sit, Stay

Caver tim,
tried to get more information about the USERS tab.
You have to delete previous User's name from that tab.
And lastly have to add a new fresh chrome user.

just yours. so many people use the same computers and so many log in on their account then other people come and mess everything up. it's just stupid!

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Nitav 1/18/13 1:22 AM
No Nathan Wallen, it will remain in your Google Account.
but delete only user account from Google Chrome not anything else which is related to sync.
Because when you delete something related to sync, it syncs automatically to the Google account and you will never get it back..!!!
So I preferred that it is good to have an secondary account, sign in with it once a week to sync all the chrome data, so what if you lost something from your primary account, then may be you can get it from the secondary account..
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. HariKrishna Moorthi 1/18/13 3:32 AM
On the top left corner you can edit your profile. From there when it opens a new tab click on disconnect and click ok. That should work out just fine.
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Preston Peek 2/18/13 7:25 AM
Uninstall, then re-install  Google Chrome. It doesn't take long.
Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program > Right click "Google Chrome", Then click "Uninstall".

To re-install, Go to www.google.com/chrome.

I can't get rid of google startskins. It is wreaking havoc on my computer. It has given me a virus, worms & trojans. It keeps causing me errors, locked me out of FB it changes screens on me when I am typing something. Now chrome says my computer needs a tune up because of extensions. Please remove google startskins. I have requested this several times now with no answer & they are still on my browser. I have tried everything to get rid of them. They are the most useless program there is. I will have to get rid of chrome & use something different if you don't get rid of them.

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. ciprianaleme 4/16/13 7:37 PM
oh, by the way, in the google chrome support page, they state:

Don't sign in to Chrome if you're using a public or untrusted computer. When you set up Chrome with your Google Account, a copy of your data is stored on the computer you're using and can be accessed by other people using the same computer. To remove your data, delete the user you are signed in as.

I think that answers our questions. If it´s your computer, sign in and leave it, then clear browser, etc. If not, don´t sign in. Great.

I believe currently this link should take you to a list of applications that you have synced with your Google account. Click the Revoke button next to Google Chrome and it should work. However, after multiple trials, it still didn't work, so I suppose this is looks like your best shot.

That's really sadistic!! why would they make a browser where they can track EVERYTHING you do with cookies and then not even create an option along with the browser to sign out? FUCK YOU GOOGLE!!!! I thought this would be cool and make my browser faster, which it does, but I can't delete this EVERY time I use this!!!

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. ciprianaleme 4/28/13 7:17 AM
i agree. On the one hand, it´s great to sign in and get all your bookmarks and apps on any computer, but then stuff starts downloading and you have to delete everything if you don´t want your identity stolen. It´s really risky and almost impossible to do. I actually panicked when I accidentally logged into google at a cyber cafe and all my apps started downloading. I could not find where to remove it all and had to get help.  I went back to firefox and completely gave up on Chrome, for good.
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. ciprianaleme 4/28/13 7:19 AM
Also, if you accidentally remove your account from Google, as opposed to deleting the user on a given computer, you delete EVERYTHING. It´s a bloody nightmare.

This is really silly. An official Google Company Rep should be answering these questions rather someone as novice as I am guessing who of 1700 novice to expert-wannabees guessing at a right answer. If that's the way were going with the digital world, we must all have a lot of time to waste. There I just wasted my 2 minutes worth. Google Official, where are you?

This is fairly easy. First, click on your chrome options(the tiny box with bars going across it on the upper right side corner). Then, go to settings. Finally, simply go to users and click delete user. Done! You have successfully signed out of chrome!
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Teeana O'Laighin 6/3/13 10:48 PM
Logging out of Chrome is easy! You simply click on the avatar to the left of the first tab. I believe the default is a blonde lady wearing sunglasses and  what looks like a Bluetooth  or a headset-microphone. It shows every Chrome user in a dropdown menu. You click on the profile you  want to log into. It's that simple.

Do you mean you use a wrench to bust in the monitor when you're frustrated with Chrome? (having to delete your account just to sign out)

Open Google Chrome, on the right up top, next to the star that would be for favorites, you'll find the menu, click on it will drop the menu, in the menu go to Settings, then click on Disconnect Account. There it is!

I have the same issue when I installed the Google Chrome on my work.
Good luck.

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Niko Bellic 2 6/19/13 5:03 AM
Yes - OK, but you don't say HOW? How did you sign out of chrome??
I just signed out of email and that automatically also signs you out of Docs (actually called Google DRIVE now), then close my browser, open my browser - still the same tabs and everything.

I don't want to share like Multiple-ID's and I don't want to sign out of the PC and in again with another ID on the PC.  Or to have a separate ID on my PC.

I want to be able to sign in and out of Google chrome, so that TAB / bookmarks are for a totally different ID and not use multiple ID's - BECAUSE - Multiple ID's implies that ID 'A' is associated with ID 'B' - (re -It is part of multiple identities of one person).

Re - Like I am setting up some TABs for someone else, (for a business purpose), who does not live at my address and is not associated with me in any shape or form, and is in fact a business contact, who does not know how to set up their PC browser for surfing, nor have all the URLS. (I do). (I call them and talk them through SYNC (similar to how FF works), get them to generate a SYNC key on their PC, after setting up a SYNC account for them on my PC.

I accept their code then tell them to Generate a new recovery key - that then stops my sync as it was the original set up and then they are the only ones to have access.

You cannot seem to do this on CHROME, because you simply cannot sign out - or I cannot find a way to sign out. Does anyone know? Why doesn't Microsoft or someone in an official capacity explain how to do this?

This Google groups result was a top answer for my search, yet no-joy - STUPID CHROME Developers! TELL US HOW TO SIGN OUT OF CHROME, and tell Google to make the listing a TOP HOMEPAGE RESULT!

Niko.

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Niko Bellic 2 6/19/13 5:21 AM
That is stupid - you shouldn't have to do that. Talk about going all around the houses. Why didn't or doesn't CHROME just have a sign-IN and OUT to their browser?

That is not the way to do it Craig! (I don't know how - but that is certainly not the way and not what sync was designed for).

Joke Answer:- You cannot sign out- because they don't ever want you to leave! re -Because they are afraid you will try FireFox and find out that it is much better ;-)

No really, you can sign in to the browser, so why can you not sign out?

If you open Chrome for the first time - and a new tab - it says:- NOT SIGNED IN TO CHROME! (You're missing out)! in the top right. If you doubt me, set up a new account on your PC (A new PC user ID - similar to a guest 2 account), then open chrome in that ID. Chrome is then being used for the first time.

But, where can you ever sign out - I cannot find it!

I can sign in and out of FFox and change accounts I do it daily! And the accounts are SYNC'ed across several PC's, so what I do on one updates the others. (Your 'sync' data resides on a servers in the ethernet - (out in the cloud if you like). You shouldn't be creating lots of new accounts each time you want to sign in and out, and that is what you are doing when you DELETE yourself as a user.

Niko.

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Niko Bellic 2 6/19/13 5:35 AM
I found the answer. YOU CANNOT SIGN OUT OF CHROME.

You CAN sing IN - but you cannot sign out again; EVER!

This is what Chrome says:-
QUOTE from https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2390059?hl=en

Can I protect the user I created with a password, so other people can’t access it?

Chrome does not provide password protection for this feature. Adding new users to Chrome isn’t intended to secure your data against other people using your computer. Chrome provides this functionality as a quick and simple user interface convenience for people who are already sharing Chrome on the same computer today. To truly protect your data from being seen by others, please use the built-in user accounts on your operating system of choice.

END OF QUOTE

Also your answer (I already said but I cannot find my previous reply to edit and add this) -

Your answer-  'Add yourself as a User, Sync, then delete yourself as a user when finished'.
This is ridiculous - I am surprised you gave an answer like this as a top contributor!

I want to sign in and out of chrome - and I want sync to remain active, so that when I am signed in, it keeps my sync file updated, that's what it was built for!

If you delete yourself as a user, you lose the sync don't you? So whats the point in signing up for sync in the first place? You might as well just use Chrome NOT SIGNED IN.

Chrome are not in touch with how users use a browser!

Niko.

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. caver_tim 6/19/13 9:34 AM
No. When you delete s chrome user you remove yourself from chrome (bookmarks, passwords etc) , which is what you want. The data Is still held on the Google sync servers so you can logs in again at any time
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. scottporter777 6/19/13 11:43 AM
Well said Niko. I like FireFox, but do use google for e-mail, calendar, and when I can't get on FF. And it is bad not to be able to truly log-out. And frustrating to not have your problems addressed by Google.

I looked everywhere for something that might work other than the disconnect of the account. It sounds extremely stupid that you have to do that, but it's unfortunately the only way to do it. The desktop that my office set me up with kept going out on me so I eventually said screw it to using it. I wanted to delete everything on the history and sign in pages before it was handed over to our salesman to use for their own browsing. The upside of it though is that it does not actually delete your account itself. I instantly logged onto my personal laptop afterwards and all of my history was there and nothing had been changed within my account. I do however agree that it should be a little bit more simple than this though. It was extremely confusing that I could go to my Google icon on my desktop, sign out on the home page, but click on the "new tab" button, and it still had me logged in. I even attempted deleting it off of the computer and re-installing it before I tried the disconnect.

It is commonly believed that you cannot log out, but you can.
In the top right corner of your computer screen, while using Chrome, you will see a symbol consisting of three horizontal lines.
Click on this button, and you should see an option that says "Sign out of Chrome."
Once you sign out, the button will change to "Sign In to Chrome."

Most people are requesting a method of signing out and removing all the data that is set up in their profile (eg bookmarks, passwords etc)

that can best be approximated by deleting the current chrome user profile

"disconnect" disconnects you from the google servers
you can then remove your user on your copy of chrome, however all your data will still be on the google servers so you can get back to it later.

To get rid of all your bookmarks, after you've disconnected your account (Settings. Sign in. Disconnect your Google Account), go to Settings. Users. Delete this user.  This will delete all of the data your sync left behind in the browser (i.e. bookmarks, etc.)

I am not sure about the best answer as it sounds like you will loose your account, I did not want to test this but what i tried instead is go to Settings, and then not sign in but users, choose "delete this user" it is going to ask you if you are sure you want to delete "first user" and all its data bla bla, then just accept...done. I closed everything and opened up chrome, I was not signed in with my bookmarks etc, so it worked. I then signed in again with my details to see that this move did not delete my account and this also proved successful. Try it and let me know.

You don't really "log on to" chrome, You connect it to your google account to centrally store ,history, bookmarks, saved password etc.
If you are using your computer why do you need to "log off" ?

You can disconnect Chrome from google and then delete all the information you've set on this browser session by deleting your current chrome user.

If I don't sign out they can alter my apps list, read my email, erase my book marks, send e-mail to my friends  with destructive information and impersonate me for financial transactions. They have also used the computer to download pornography using my account and that nearly got me kicked out.  So yes there are many reasons that I would like to be able to easily sign out of Chrome.

Chrome actually tells you

Remember, do not set up Chrome with your Google Account on a public or untrusted computer. When you set up Chrome with your Google Account, a copy of your data is stored on the computer you're using and can be accessed by other users on the same computer. To remove your data, delete the user you have signed in as.

No, Disconnect your Google Account will just remove the sync feature from that computer.

To sign out of Google Chrome, go to Settings. Users; click the delete this user button to remove your account from that computer.

It will remove your account from that computer, but won't delete your account completely.

That doesn't work for me. I can't sign out of my office account and return to my personal account. I have signed out a number of times, but when I go back to settings it still says I am signed in (as my office, not myself).
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. standuncan 1/18/14 8:11 AM
This doesn't help me. I have a slightly different problem. I can't sign out of my office account. I can do what you suggest, but when I go to settings, it still says that I am signed in as my office email and name. But when I try to delete that account (as was suggested by someone else on this list), it wants to delete my personal account, not my office one. It seems to be a hybrid. I have all of my office tabs (and have lost my private ones), but it has my picture and name at the top right.
Any haelp? any ideas?

I think it is best to go back to 1990.  It's even difficult to have more then one Email/user account on the same computer because it confuses google who is constantly spying and needing to know what you are doing at all times.  It gets confused if it seems to think there's more then one person on the computer and it almost seems to control you as one person is only suppose to use the computer.
If there's a system out there that anyone knows about that is NOT intrusive on my personal space and constantly logging every single activity and even security information and personal information about me, let me know.
Other then that, 1990 was better.... and in those days 30 percent of people weren't walking thru Walmart talking on a cell-phone to somebody either... and "friends" weren't having coffee with each other looking down at their phones texting other people.  This era SUKS.

I found this on www.geek.com
Google are sneaky bastards
link: http://www.geek.com/android/geek-101-how-to-sign-out-of-chrome-on-all-devices-1564884/

Head over to Gmail.com and log in.
Scroll down to the bottom, and in the right-hand corner, you’ll see some text in a small font that says “Last account activity.” Underneath that is a link marked “Details.” Click that.
This will invoke an Activity Information window, which shows you which devices are currently logged into Chrome, their IP addresses and type of activity, and how long ago they were used.
Click the “Sign out all other sessions” button toward the top of the page.
Now, every device logged into your Chrome account will be logged out, except the one you used to force the other devices out. If you’re worried about your login and password being saved on those logged-out devices, you should now change your password. Easy peasy. Now you can go back the dark corners of the internet you really don’t want your friends and coworkers to know about.

If I have logged into Google on a public computer and later logged out, do changes to my bookmarks after I logged out persist with my account when I log in next time?  To elaborate, can another user modify my Chrome bookmarks while I am logged out and do those affect my synced bookmarks when I log into a different computer?

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. SarahMM 1/22/14 5:56 PM
Arul,

If you have logged fully out of chrome, then changes on that computer should not affect your bookmarks. Changes to your bookmarks and other sync information only occurs when you are logged in. Some folks get a big confused on logging out of chrome, so the steps you should follow are:

  1. Click the Chrome menu  on the browser toolbar.

  2. Select Signed in as <your email address>.

  3. In the "Sign in" section, click Disconnect your Google Account.

  4. Click Disconnect account in the confirmation dialog.

I hope that helps!
Sarah

Sarah, thanks.  Is there a way to see version changes in Chrome?

Or is there a way to revert changes out of curiosity (not that I expect there is)?

Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. SarahMM 1/23/14 1:33 PM
You can learn about release updates on this blog. There is no way to revert pack, but you can get on beta or canary so that you know what's coming next.

There's an actual way to sign out. It's really simple. Just open a new tab, click on the little profile pic icon bubble, and click sign out.

yes, or click on menu  and then "signed in as ..." and then "disconnect your google account"

but that only disconnects you, it does not delete all your data that has been synced to your PC
Re: How do I sign out of google chrome? I can sign in well, but I can't sign out. Jerry Rowley 3/21/14 5:51 AM
QQFarmer, Disconnecting a Google account is not the same as signing out. It is like closing an account that you don't want anymore. There is no sign out feature.
