Just found the answer in this thread (http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=1152dc6b0866c04d&hl=en), seems alot of folks preferred the old 'new tab' page.

Anyhows to quote...

"You can get your OLD NewTab back by adding the following to your Chrome shortcut target ...

   --old-new-tab-page"

I will now give this a try, hopefully it works.

For some reason the  --old-new-tab-page switch doesn't work for me. Other switches do like --incognito. i'm running version 3.0.195.21 on Windows XP
Anyone have an idea why this wouldn't work?

jadent- did you close and re-open Chrome? I thought it didn't work too when I added it to the target and then opened a new window. I already had a chrome window open. So I closed all Chrome windows, then opened one, and it was back to the much better old new tab page.

Thanks guys - the switch works great, been trying to do this since the stealth update.

I have been using --old-new-tab-page.  Yesterday, I downloaded the latest Beta version of Chrome, and the option is no longer working.  I can not get the old page back.  What is the new solution for this problem?

Could someone please explain in greater detail how to edit this Shortcut target? I have no idea how to do that. Sorry for being a techno spaz...

@mattcreek, in all probability, the posts before yours are truly outdated. The --old-new-tab-page switch no longer exists.

@mattcreek, for how to use the switches and how to edit the shortcut target you can see this:
