Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? Carolyn_C 5/23/09 3:54 AM
I actually like the recently closed tabs on New Tab page. That said, user preferences differ. There's currently no way to change the contents of the new tab page (with the exception of removing items from the Most Visited list), but you can vote for that suggestion at the referenced link below.

thank you
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? peterjwest 5/27/09 12:43 PM
Just out of interest, why don't you like it? It's a completely harmless feature that takes up 4 lines on your home page that would otherwise be blank.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? GK999 7/17/09 3:23 AM
Because if you value your privacy it shows places that otherwise have been cleared from your cache. It's a privacy thing expecially for multi-user computers. The option to remove/show it should be there...
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? av8tr1 7/30/09 9:14 AM

Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? anne1981 11/3/09 3:26 PM
In the new tab page of Google Chrome you can see 3 squares on the top right corner under Other Bookmarks. If you click the 3rd square (change page layout) it gives you the option to remove recently closed. Just untick it.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? BANu2009 12/12/09 5:19 AM
3 steps:
1) Right click on Google Toolbar
2) Select the Wrench (Google Toolbar Options)
3) Clear the "Enable the Google New tab page" option and save it
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? inlikelynn 10/5/10 4:59 PM
I love this feature. However, I don't share a computer and I could see how it wouldn't be desired on a shared computer. You can use an incognito window if you do not want your history saved. Click the wrench and new incognito window and no one will know the pages you have viewed :)
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? wr1234 10/15/10 11:50 AM
I totally agree with you.  it seems that Google is falling behind explorer on privacy issues like recently closed and viewing saved passwords
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? amtuko 10/18/10 3:52 PM
When you look at you history, look at the right hand corner where it says delete all browsing history.
Then pick a distance to how long ago your computer should delete your history. YOU'RE DONE
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? igboman 10/21/10 9:01 PM
First go to your history,
-click on edit history
-select those you don't want
-delete selected items

Then just close your browser.

The next time you open it, it will all be gone.

You CAN hide the Recently Closed items. At the end of line immediately to the right 'Recently Closed' statement there is faded 'X '. It's quite dim but click on this and your problem is solved.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? CBF_2.0 12/12/10 6:07 PM
There is no option to hide Recently Closed in the new version.  Most users should update to the latest version of Chrome, then they would not be suggesting outdated ways to attempt a fix for this issue.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? JerAmour 12/20/10 3:52 PM
In the latest version of Chrome, I'm personally using the "speed dial" extension which just changes the "most visited" page into one with pre-set sites that the user decides on. There's an "Options" button at the top left of it. Clicking it will bring up a menu where you will see "Display Recent Closed Bar". Un-check the box.

Click the x at the end of the following recently closed about 8 inches to the right
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? Phil-Oz 52 1/27/11 6:38 PM
Chrome has good points however many computers are multi-user (not necessarily muti-account).   i.e. work computers in small business, many home computers etc where logging on & off etc just takes too much resources & time..

So WHY doesn't Chrome allow the flexibility of removing the recently closed OR removing the individual bookmarks?  Do I want my employees to know what my last message was on ValueSMS?  What my bank is or what my stock market watch is etc NO.

Please get with the program.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? Techero 3/27/11 5:29 AM
Although I am not sure whether method is the best , still if there are many such listings in the recently closed tabs and you wish to close all of them u can
1. Go to task manager and in processes select 'chrome.exe' and end the task everything remains accept for those unwanted listings.
                       OR
2.Select the site and then select home button next to address bar

Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? KuyaJBlade 6/10/11 8:36 PM
Personally it gets in the way of the picture I have on my home page.  I'd like to have the least things I can there so the picture doesn't look so trash.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? comodo dragon user 6/29/11 5:14 PM
Hi every one

It isn't the best thing but something that works is..
to go into the 'options' and then
'under the hood' and at the top there is an option to mark as checked -
'Clear history and cookies at exit'.

This removes the annoying 'recently closed' items, because it clears history and any cookies that remember the pages you visited ffom the chrome/dragon cache when you close the browser completely.

On opening the browser the items will no longer be there.

AND it removes the images in the 'most visited' items but not the links.

Funny enough the most visited stay (without image though) !!>???!!!

Don't ask because I dont know but what I said cures the issue.

I hope this helps
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? comodo dragon user 6/29/11 5:38 PM
Hi again

I just realised that if you go along the separator line where the words 'recent closed' are, there is an x for closing that line and hence the items.

you can also do that with the 'apps' and 'most visited' areas.

to retrieve them they appear at the bottom right of the home page of the browser window.

Try it, I think its quite cool.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? Earthquake15 7/10/11 2:39 PM
You can click on the (x) at the end of the line to get rid of 'Recently Closed' but it will still show up in the bottom right corner :( It's weird, but that's all that I think you can do...sorry if not much help :) (Hope google creates a feature like this soon....)
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? comodo dragon user 7/10/11 5:09 PM
Tooo True!

Better the bottom corner than in ur face! No?

What can we do apart from wait and see?

Nothing!, and thats where the proof is that browser developers should have proper feedback portals to provide a way to create/develope a product that the user wants and uses happily.

Not a product you like or lump.

Still I love the speed of chrome and more so, Comodo Dragon, which is a chrome based browser made by a internet security organistion.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? comodo dragon user 7/10/11 5:14 PM
Go into Programs - Control Panel - Internet Options - and delete browsing history, also check (mark) the delete on exit box, and then apply/ok that.

????Works????

Solved !! New tabs can be easily made to open Google search by going to this link on the Google webstore page and click install. New tabs are now Google search page.
Install it and it instantly works for you.

No you have to delete from history by holding down ctrl+h and. Delete the items you want to delete and  it will be automatically removed
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? FixMsTR 9/3/11 8:21 PM

Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? BRUNOTEMC 9/14/11 9:44 PM
it also shows bookmarks and sometimes it bookmarks sites without asking me, I love this bowser, but it must let the user do what they want with it, I HATE the bookmarks bar at the top, it stays there whether I "disable" it or not, it just switches places, and the "recently closed" bar at the bottom also sucks, I have a laptop and other people can see whose facebook profile ive been visiting I dont want to keep erasing my browsing history everytime I use google chrome... its a privacy thing ! >:(
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? Taylor5 10/19/11 4:22 PM
Hi all,

Another option is to browse in Incognito mode (private browsing) - see Reference 1. That way, you won't have a New Tab page showing recently visited sites, etc.

You can use these handy keyboard shortcuts to open an incognito window:

Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS)
⌘-Shift-N (Mac)

Go to Tools, Internet Options, and delete your Browsing History...worked for me.  If you want, select the Delete Browsing History on Exit option.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? londonman 10/23/11 10:41 AM
One solution to the Recently Closed item is to open lots of NewTabs and then close them. This effectively zero's out the Recently Closed area of History but I do agree I would much rather kill it dead.

"You CAN hide the Recently Closed items. At the end of line immediately to the right 'Recently Closed' statement there is faded 'X '. It's quite dim but click on this and your problem is solved."

No, it doesn't hide it. It just moves it to the bottom of the page.

Hi guys,

1 other tip: there are a lot of extensions at the Chrome Web Store that let you customize the New Tab page (please see Reference 1).

Google presumes it knows everything about user preferences and choices. Get rid of this compulsion. We want to choose what we see. Don't try to be Apple. We don't care about them.
Re: how do i remove the recently closed tabs section? jdl69 8/29/12 6:29 AM
Agreed... People who created/recommend such a feature have never had a room full of people become aware of their past search history while using a Webex/overhead presentation... Just another great on paper 'cool' thing you can do but created by someone who really gave no thought to if you 'should' ... Unbelievable the level of thought that goes into most features these days..... Therefore, I use Firefox for all work presentations.
