Google Talk not working - freezes - Windows 7 64 Bit. Was working fine, but no longer sevensthru 1/8/10 10:21 AM
I've been using Google Talk fine with my new Win 7 64bit laptop for weeks - and all of a sudden today it no longer works.  It freezes when it goes to sign in....what is the problem?

Please make sure you got no issues with sound system in Windows. In my case it was the fault of Intel IDT sound system drivers which were freezing everything that touched sound. Those drivers are really buggy and one needs to turn all effects on sound output deviced to use those drivers without problems.

Ok, sounds like a possible fix but I don't understand what I have to do to "turn all effects on sound output deviced to use those drivers without problems" as I have only basic Windows working knowledge! Help please!

Check seconds post from  here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/474977-finally-idt-driver-dell.html (after googling: http://www.google.pl/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=idt+audio+tuen+effects+off)

"I'd recommend going into the properties for your output device (typically "Speakers / Headphones"), navigate to the Enhancements tab, and check "Disable all enhancements" which will cause the IDT Audio Effects to be turned off "

I also agree with next statement: "I typically use the in-box Microsoft High Definition Audio driver as it provides proper jack sensing (changes the volume automatically if you plug in a set of headphones)"

Thx Bud, disabling all the sound effects on the speakers seems to have done the trick, you the Man! I'm not sure about the rest of your suggestion as I'm not sure what you mean re the driver? My system seems to use Realtek drivers and with the above mentioned change now appearing to work, is there any need for me to change this driver? or am I missing something? Thx again

I think not - if now your sound subsystem if working fine then I guess you are done :)
Driver remark was probably valid for Inter IDT only.
