|sync Google Calendar with iCal not working||cayohueso||5/7/09 8:15 AM|
I followed the instructions to sync Google Calendar with iCal in Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) and initialy it worked fine. The next day, however, when I tried to create an event in iCal, Google Calendar does not sync (The event does not appear), and if I close iCal and reopen it, the event has dissapeared.

Ok, this is what I found (it is not what I was expecting, but it works):
Open Preferences in iCal
Go to Accounts and eliminate the Google calendars that you have subscribed to, using the "-" button
Export any calendars that you want to keep.
Create a new calendar, using File>New Calendar
Eliminate all calendars from Ical, leaving only the just created Calendar
Open Calaboration, and sync your Google calendars again
Open iCalImport the calendar(s) that you exported
Now iCal should have your Google calendars and the other calendars, and now you can create events in iCal, and they will be sync to Google Calendar
Use this method at your own risk. It works for me, but maybe is not the best solution.

I also had an iCal Google sync problem that sounds similar. The sync stopped working sometime after upgrading to 10.5.7.
I found a suggestion on MacFixIt that was simpler and people may want to try it first. People on the Apple forums reported success with this, as well. Quit iCal. Delete the file youruser/Library/Calendars/Calendar_Cache

Your solution seemed to fix it. Very simple and everything re-initiated. As long as you only delete that one file, you will not lose any calendars or have to re-apply any calendar subscriptions. It took 30sec and fixed everything. Thanks

I'm using OSX 10.6.1 with iCal 4.0 (1362). I'm also subscribed to Contacts' birthdays and events calendar in my google account. Just recently I've edited a few of my contacts to include their birthdays. Though for some reason they aren't syncing my iCal Contacts' birthdays and events delegate. Everything else seems to sync (the main google calendar).
Any suggestions? Thanks

This method of clearing the cache worked for me. I also exported my calendar from ical and deleted the calendar, and imported it into google. Google pushed it back to ical and all is well. Now my calendar is sync'ed to my DROID!

hey guys, go here.
apparently google cal does not import ical alarms and todos. so go to that site.
1. download script "ical-to-gcal.py"
2. export your ical.
3. put it in a folder named "script" on your desktop
4 .change your ical calendar name to "in.ics"
5. put the script that you downloaded into the "script" folder
6. start "terminal"
7. type "CD DESKTOP"
8. type "CD SCRIPT"
9. type "python ical-to-gcal.py"
10. script will run, erasing all TODOs and ALARMs.
11. script will export file called "out.ics"
12. import "out.ics" into google cal.
13. it should work, it worked for me!
hope this helps.

The Bottom Line: only use the Google Calendar when setting up events, not the Home or Work calendars
I was having a similar problem. It seemed that some of my events would sync and others would not. And then syncing stopped altogether. It turns out that I didn't know how to use iCal.
When you set up iCal you have multiple calendars (e.g. Home and Work). The Home calendar is the default calendar when making new events. When you set up your iCal to sync with Google Calendar this creates a new calendar (the name of this calendar is most likely the name of your g-mail address) in addition to your Home and Work calendar. Only your events labeled with this newly entered Google Calendar will sync with Google Calendar on the web or your mobile device.
The consequence then is that if you want the events you enter into iCal to sync with Google Calendar you have to use the Google Calendar in iCal exclusively. This means you cannot color code your events. You can make Google Calendar your default by going to iCal/Preferences/General/Default Calendar.
