what worked for my 3G iPod nano:
locate your calendars private ical adress, download it and store it in your iPods Calendar directory. Thats all. Now you just should find a way that suits you to get it done automatically. (I used wget and a shell script, you may preffer a cron-job or the windows task scheduler. YMMV)
I don't use iTunes, so I dont know if iTunes also could do that for you.

I recommend this method:
Use Google Calendar Sync to automatically sync your events from google calendar into microsoft outlook. You can then use itunes to automatically sync your microsoft outlook calendar to your ipod classic.
Operating system: WinXP

Sync Software Used: Google Calendar Sync, Itunes
