iCal: Failed to import event mikepaer 7/27/09 10:36 AM
I'm developing a script (based on an existing vCal ASP.NET class I found online) to generate an .ics file. This file works perfectly when importing to Outlook 2003. When I try to import to Google Calendar, I get the following error:

Failed to import events: Unable to process your iCal/CSV file..

Error at line 32: Expected [DAYLIGHT], read [VEVENT]

I don't know too much about the vCal format or syntax, but everything looks fine to me. I'll post the sample test calendar .ics below:

Thank you very much! This was very helpful.
Re: iCal: Failed to import event jakenovick 8/5/09 8:14 PM
Hello there,

I'm also having a similar problem.  I'm trying to upload an iCal file to my Google Calendar (which has the same name).

I go to File > Export > Save in iCal.  The file appears on my desktop as a .ics file.

I go into google and get this message:

Processed zero events.

Failed to import events: Unable to process your iCal/CSV file..

I tried the link posted above to validate the file and it says "Sorry, your calendar could not be parsed."  It does not give an "Error" or "Cause".

Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jake

I am having a similar problem. I WAS able to import PART of my calendar. I have my calendar divided in WORK and HOME entries. The WORK portion transferred from iCal to Google calendar perfectly, and when I used the above URL test, it indeed posted a "congratulations" note that it works. YAY. So what could be wrong with the HOME entries? When I tested that with the "url to validate the file" it said "0 bytes".... HELP?
Thanks.
Amy
Re: iCal: Failed to import event ArvindG 11/2/09 12:33 PM
Even I had a similar problem, I used the link posted above to validate the file and it passed successfully, but it still would not import into Google Calendar. So then I imported successfully it into Outlook, then exported from Outlook to get ics file which I imported into Google calendar, it was imported successfully now.

This was strange but i compared my original .ics file with the one from Outlook, there was only major difference between them

Original file had

BEGIN:VALARM
TRIGGER:PT30M
ACTION:DISPLAY

Outlook ics file had

BEGIN:VALARM
TRIGGER:-PT30M
ACTION:DISPLAY

The minus(-) sign before "PT30M" was missing in the original file. I tested it out by deleting the event from Google Calendar and then re-importing the modified original file. Now the event was imported successfully.

One more tip : If you delete the event from Google calendar and try to re-import it may not be successful since Google Calendar already has the event in its memory. The workaround for this is to change the UID value in the .ics file and import the .ics file.

Thanks,

Arvind

I had a similar problem, and got a message form Google Calendar of " Processed Zero Events ". The validator link from sachin agarwal said that my file validated, but I still could not import. I do not have Outlook, so I installed SunBird, imported the .ics file, exported it back out, and Voila! I am now migrated from iCal to gCal!
Re: iCal: Failed to import event mspepper 2/8/10 3:28 PM
This is ridiculous.  I mean, I give full credit to you folks for your workarounds, but hey, really, export to outlook?  export again?  import.

I just want my appointments to show up automatically on my google calendar.  And it says in the instructions that it's easy but it doesn't work on an intel imac running 10.5.8 and the latest version of ical.

Maybe it'll get fixed, maybe it won't.  Meanwhile I'll just have to stick with ical alone.
Re: iCal: Failed to import event Jawon Lee 2/27/10 9:25 AM
After reading ArvindG's post, I opened my iCal in TextEdit, and deleted a single entry from BEGIN:VALARM to END:VALARM, and my file saved perfectly.

So I guess the Google Calendar import doesn't deal well with calendar alarms.

projects/icv/)  it said that my file was Validated!  - but I still cannot upload my file - suggestions?

Sunbird was the answer for me as well (thanx Jake). Here's the URL:

If you've found a bug—say, a definitely valid iCalendar that generates errors—please check out the iCal4j bugsforums, or feel free to contact me; minimal test cases are always appreciated!
