I wrote a review several days ago for a car dealership. When I went to see the review today, it is nowhere to be found. If I sign in to my Google account and then look at the reviews, mine is at the top of the list. Is there an account setting that doesn't allow my review to be visible to the outside world? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I was using firefox but I tried safari and ie as well with the same problem. I also cleared the browser cache and tried it multiple times.

I know you already tried the the hints Google gave about reviews  but to no avail.

I can confirm I can't see your posted review either. 
I'm escalating now the issue to GooglePlace experts.

Can you check your Google profile settings?

I think you want to check privacy, then public profile, edit visibility, then go down to profile visible in search and check that.

I don't know for sure if this is the problem but suspect it's something like this.
So just try changing any related settings, then test to see if review shows up.
Then please report back what worked so we can use the info to help others.

Hello - Thanks for the quick response. I have attached screenshots of both the google+ visibility settings and the places visibility settings. I could not find any other settings that seem to pertain to that...the settings that you see were as such before I went to edit them, so I'm not convinced that is the reason. Is there something in the wording of the review?

Im having the same problem as listed above - I think the same may have happened to me, the post being marked as spam. Because ive managed to post the exact same review on a sister page of the same address (just to check) and it has worked fine.

But Ive tried to edit and re save it several times so if a post can automatically be marked as spam for some reason, this might be possible?

KA,
you have a more serious problem, you have two Places pages for the same business, which is not allowed by the quality guidelines.
You may end up with both listings removed from Places and the account suspended.
Pick one and delete the other.

treebles, I only see one that's verified, the other isn't so she can't get suspended for one she didn't claim can she?  
Looks like it may just be a scrape? Or do you see another claimed one that I missed?

Hello,

Sorry I didnt realise that. After reading this blog I just tried to post
the same comment again on another tag just to check my content wasnt making
the post flag up as spam - which it didnt. Initially it took the post. I
have erased the duplicate review and am back to the original problem.


Any advice on how I can resolve this would be so very appreciated.

The review I want to show has been broken for over a week - Duplicate was
only made last night.

Thanks for your help , just added a few reviews form my google plus account , seems that  one got filtered, and the other two were posted.   I am able to see my review but if I log out I do not see it and I think the public will not see my review.  Did I do something wrong ??  Did it get marked as SPAM ??/  Can you please fix this and advise what shall I do for the future.  I was an avid user on Yelp , but am turned off to their politics so Google is now my fav

What listing did you try to post on? [go to the listing, top right corner there is a 'link' button]

I appear to be having the same problem with a review I wrote on Rusty Eck Ford after I bought my new vehicle. I see it as the original poster says, but when I go to their list of reviews and look for it, it is not listed. I have attached a screenshot of the review.

Other than a google employee going in and manually unmarking each post as SPAM, has their been any resolution to this question by Google?  A normal reviewer isn't going to be tenacious enough to pursue getting their post displayed.
 
Please advise what needs to be done to ensure that posts are visible to the world?

I had the exact same problem on a review which was deleted:   Its visible to me when I sign in and look at the business places page.  It was removed from the business places page, and it was removed from the summary of my public reviews:

As I reread the review it does read sort of spammy.  Here is why.   Previously, and when I wrote the review, the places record for this business was showing a different URL. (long story).  I actually sent in  reports on it through the report a problem process.  Google made the correction on the URL before Yelp did.  YEP.  Amazing.   

The place deserves excellent reviews.   Its significantly better than the places near it, and is simply hampered by a terrible location.   Please free this review.  (I'm definitely not connected with the place but I've gone there enough b/c its so much better than the nearby competition that I feel like I've paid their rent for several months.   Trying to be funny about this...but let me know if google took down this review because you considered it fake.  

Here is the review as it shows only for me:

Toscana Grill has the flavors and tastes of NY/NJ style Italian food, something Arlington....in fact the entire DC region rarely sees. AND IT IS TERRIFIC. Not only that, this place is essentially new (its confusing with the old Toscana Grill. AND THEY ARE OFFERING GREAT PRICES and working doubly/triple hard to make you aware of this all new restaurant with an old name. Check it out and hurry. The new website with the current menu is http://spaghettiyaface.com I can't imagine they'll keep offering the same great deals for long. (Don't believe the price deals? Walk around the Courthouse Courtyard where they are located and you'll see the values!!!!). Give it a try....they are working in the kitchen and on the floor for your business!!!

Hey earlpearl, how ya be?

I bet the link tripped a filter.  Seems I've read a few times that links caused a problem.

BUT there still could be some other bug because I keep seeing reports like this and some of the reviews I've seen had no links and did not appear spammy.
(But some of the reviews WERE either spammy or questionable.)

It's tricky sometimes for us to troubleshoot because it's hard to tell if it's operator error, the reviewers account, the businesses account or something else fishy.

BUT since it's you, would you mind doing a test?
How about try to delete the review. Wait a day, then leave another, no link, no superlatives, just a very bland generic review that could not possibly trip any filters and let's see what happens?

Then write another bland review of a different restaurant in your area. (As a test, because if NEITHER sticks then it's either your account or a bug?)

I'll follow through on your suggestions.   though geez...bland doesn't help the restaurant...does it?  :D

BTW:  I added commentary on lost reviews in blumenthals blog.  I had other reviews dropped from my account.  had to have occurred in the last few months.   

No complaint about them though.  It appears those avoided a type of filter that was in effect last summer.   They violated TOS and should have been deleted in all honesty.  

 I'll follow your suggestions and get back to you.

I understand WHY it happened, but I am not sure how to request for my posts to be UNmarked as spam.
Would you please help?

There are many people out there looking for my song "Sweet Little Lies" that was on dance mom.
So I posted instructions on all of the vids out there, about how to hear an HD version of the song and where they can find more of the
same artist.

At this point, no one can see those posts because they've been marked as spam.

Sean,
   If you are talking about reviews of a listing in Google Local, then the review should not be used as directions to another location on the internet, but as a review of the business.  Remove any links in the review and phrase it as a review of the business rather than instructions about how to find something else.

more or less in response to Linda.   I edited the review that was removed from public review.  I removed the url, and slightly reduced the flowery language.   Mostly it was the same review from months ago.

The review is up and has been for several days.   The date on it reflects this recent date, rather than months ago.

I'll add some other reviews to local restaurants.  At this point I suspect, as Vanessa confirmed, the review was removed because of a url in the content rather than any other reasons, but I'll keep testing and eating and review writing and reporting back.

Hi Linda, I too have the same problem with my review only showing when I'm logged in. It was there at first but no longer. I did have a URL in the post to photo bucket showing the milage the business put on my car while it was in for service - could that be the problem?.  The business is Mascari Auto Body 1700 Ferguson Road Allison Park, PA 15101.

I even deleted the account and submitted a new review with no luck.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I too am having a similar problem with my review of my local comic book shop. Can someone please help me with this issue?

I've been a reader and customer of Carl's for a decade now, and in my time as a wandering nomad before settling on the ONLY real comic books store worth a damn, I saw all of the local surrounding stores. In that time frame of lost consciousness, I can say that once I walked into All-American I was immediately welcomed into the fold with exemplary knowledge, great service, easy-to-navigate racks (which are impeccably arranged), and an overall easy and fun atmosphere. As one fine customer before me said, if you're looking for the "Flavor-of-the-Month" type books and the rudimentary Variant covers for profit over reading, then you might wish to venture elsewhere. Carl is, without a doubt, the most knowledgeable and personable "comic guy" out there. I have been around him long enough to know one of the things that vexes him is the fact that kids are not reading as much; he espouses all of the wonders and values of reading these books because he LOVES the medium! He genuinely cares about the industry, hence his tireless efforts to keep the industry going with his store! I can only say that All-American Comics is for the SERIOUS reader and ardent fan of the books; he is as serious as they come, but he also knows how to be a big kid in an industry that has all but lost its youthful delegates to computers, video games and other peripheral distractions. If you honestly want to to visit a store in your area that will bend over backwards to keep you interested in the books and happy as a customer, go in and see Carl and his staff. There is simply not enough backhanded or anonymous blurbs below to denigrate this place; jealousy is a bad motivator. Carl's had loyal customers still with him for over 30-years - the "I's" seem to have it! Stop in and see him and see how fun the shop is at all times! 

Thank you! The guy has been in business for 30-years and deserves good reviews about his store, especially from its loyal base. :)

Dang:   That is an incredibly literate review.   That place has some smashing great reviews and some wholesale attack reviews.   Okay...being facetious here...but its a shame the attack reviewers are typically grotesque and not literate.

I am having the same problem!

I tried posting a review for my dentist and although I can see it when I am logged in, once I log off I can no longer see it.
I tried using different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Explorer) and nothing seems to work. Was my post marked as spam? Please fix!!

The review is marked for public.  I looked at it and I don't see any spammy words in there.

The second review I don't even see anymore.  I spent the better part of a 1/2 hour - 1 hour going over the review and making sure everything was written well and now I don't even see the review even when I am logged in.  It was for smarty pants.  I was defending them because they received a lot of bad publicity from workers that left there or other people that I felt was really unjust.  However I cannot even find it.  Not sure if anything can be done about that.  I don't see any of those bad reviews on there anymore either so perhaps that review is no longer necessary.

I called Dustin to inquire about a potential squirrel problem in my house. He answered all of my questions to my satisfaction and offered to inspect my house. On the day of the appointment, he arrived on time and thoroughly checked the exterior of the house. I was impressed as he not only checked the roof and underside, but also did a meticulous inspection throughout the attic. Dustin gave me an honest assessment and concluded the house did not have a squirrel problem. He did recommend that there were some entry points on the roof he could seal-up in order to prevent a possible squirrel problem in the future. Overall, I was very pleased with Dustin. He was polite, a consummate professional and his rates were very reasonable. The one thing I noticed about him is that he takes a lot of pride in his work. Dustin is the owner/operator of his business and he has plenty of years of experience. Unlike some wildlife control companies, you may get an inexperienced technician to handle your problem. But if you call Dustin, you get someone that is knowledgeable and experienced. I would recommend Dustin for any type of wild life problem you may encounter.

I have numerous customers that have contacted me saying they left reviews on my local listing but they are not showing up. After doing much research into it I believe all of my reviews are getting listed as spam as they customers can see them in their accounts but they are not showing up on the public listing. PLEASE HELP I AM GETTING LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT!!!!!

I've seen this as well -- a review written on a +Local listing in the last 10 days which appears on the individual's Plus profile because he shared it, but it still does not appear on the business' listing.  Maybe Jade or a Top Contributor and help us out here.

My review of a Honda dealer doesn't show unless I'm logged in (same as everyone else on here). The review is quite thourough and honest and there's nothing spammy about it, no urls, nothing—can you please advise or just fix the problem. Thanks!

So this review is a bit different then most because the experience is still in progress. I always take my 2006 Honda Element to a Honda dealership to be serviced because, even though they are generally more expensive than a regular mechanic, they keep track of the service and stand by their work. Being new to San Francisco, when I began hearing a grinding sound from the front left end of my car on hills in first gear, I decided to bring it in right away. I called for an appointment and had service scheduled for the next day. Aaron Wong was quick to check me in, courteous and professional. After listening to my description of the problem, he first did a visual inspection under the hood and checked my fluid levels to eliminate any easy fixes. With that failing to diagnose the problem, he informed me of the diagnostic fee ($155) and offered me a ride to work (2 blocks away - I walked). An hour or so later, I get a call to let me know that the left side rubber transmission supports were wearing out (a simple fix for two hundred something dollars), but there was an unexpected discovery - a crack in the transmission casing (a $5,000 fix!). Naturally I was not happy with this news, especially since I have not had any accidents and don't go off-roading. Transmission cases don't just crack on their own, right? Aaron's pictures of the transmission case showed no evidence of impact or damage that might have caused the crack. Aaron told me that he had another car just 3 days earlier made around the same time that had a similar crack in the transmission case (though they had a front end accident a few years back) and that the issue may be a Honda issue. In that case, Honda had offered to cover half of the cost even with the accident history (the owner still wasn't happy with that). Aaron sent his detailed report along with the pictures and a VIN history of the car to Honda to see if they would step up and fix an issue with their product that should have never happened in the first place. So, I'm waiting to hear if Honda is going to do the right thing and replace this faulty and expensive part. I hope they do, as I love my Honda Element and have always recommended their cars to friends and families based primarily on their reliability and service. I will write a follow up review when I get an answer with the details of Honda's response as well as quotes for the fix from both this dealer and an independent Honda-certified mechanic. In the future, issues should be kept on separate threads. It's a lot easier to figure out who needs help and who is just trying to answer the question if there is a single defined problem (per user). Quick answer to most of your questions about reviews - If the review you left only shows up when you are logged in to your Google+ account, and doesn't show up on the business' page... it has been marked as spam. You need to edit it and re-post.

Same response as above. You need a Google+ account, and if you try to leave a review and it doesn't show up on the page, but only shows up when you're signed in, more than likely it is because it was marked as spam. You also need to make sure you didn't mark a review as "private" or have it set so the public can't see it. A majority of these reviews probably got marked as spam. Since I can't see the reviews, I can't really tell you why. Go back, edit them and resubmit.

I feel like whatever algorithm Google is using to mark things as spam is on "overkill." I've had dozens of reviews fail to show up on my page. Not only that, some of my reviews have been disappearing! To me, it seems like reviews that were previously not marked as spam, are now being marked as spam. It has a large impact on my business because a lot of my new patients cite my positive reviews on Google Maps their reason for coming in. :(

Yeah, reviews have been a major issue with Google. Not sure what I can tell you because they really don't disclose how they grade spam or what they're looking for. It really is a rough situation for a lot of businesses. If only there weren't so many people faking reviews.... :-/

I have the same issue, as I see many others do as well.  How can I request someone to "un-spam" reviews I've written.  I have a few that somehow didn't make the cut, I've tried all the tips mentioned, and I really don't know what to do from here.  There are legit reviews, don't seem like they would trip the filters.

Early on in this thread  I commented about a review that had been marked as spam.   Google officially acknowledged, in this thread, that a link within the review would trigger  would trigger the spam filter.  I edited the review and reposted.  The edited review is up and it doesn't include a link.

Since then, as far as I can tell, Google has not referenced any particular other issues that might trigger the spam filter.  So if writers are triggering the spam filter...who knows exactly what is causing it.

I can only offer one suggestion reading some of the reviews that were blocked:   It could be that repeating someone's name numerous times within a review could be a cause for triggering the filter.  Can't be sure about it, but having read a number of reviews that seem to have been automatically blocked that is one characteristic I picked up.

It would be interesting if those that are referencing blocked reviews were to reedit and if any happened to cut back on references to a person's name within the review  and were willing to post the before and after reviews we might track some of the algo elements that seem to be blocking reviews.   If not multiple mentions of name, we might see some other characteristics that seem to cause blocked reviews.

can you post a link to the page/review or give a screenshot? And like I mentioned earlier you should really put your individual issues on separate threads. This one is getting too big a muddled with too many people's issues. It's kind of a shot in the dark to get help with your situation if you keep tacking it on to other people's original problem

Ladies and Gentlemen, I think this explains what's been happening to all of us. Except, it's an explanation from Yelp. Not Google. Though, I'm sure they have a similar system. I think we could all be helped if our reviewers started posting reviews on multiple businesses, this way they will be seen as real users, not robots. I have been a patient of this office for over 5 years. It started with a new patient exam that Dr. Sotodeh completed for me. She spent the time to tell me exactly what was going on in my mouth and what needed to be done. Also I had a wisdom tooth that needed to be removed that Dr. Knothe took care of that for me. Great job. Cannot wait to take my son to their office after his 3rd birthday.

I have exactly the same problem as Georgi Shumanov, which is why I'm posting an entry to this thread.  You see, I started a "new" thread at https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/google-plus-discuss/YcQypGFhSGo/OZjGrFwITEgJ almost a full month ago.  But, after two days of sympathetic comments, no one else has responded, and my review is still not being publicly displayed.  Was the Google Discussion group the wrong place to post such a problem?  Should I re-post it under the Google - Your Business - Technical category, even though I'm not a business owner?

To me, the real problem seems to be that there is no place where a person can go to ask someone from Google to arbitrate / review / unmark those postings that the automatic Google filter apparently considers questionable.  Instead, a bunch of people just commiserate among themselves, which does nothing to get their problems solved, unless they get "lucky", as in the case of 'DrkKnight71' and 'ValPal83', who got help from 'Jade W' back on June 14th.

Me too, I posted a question about this but no response yet.

Since 2 months ago my Place Page broke, now had 6 pupils reviews 'disappear' (only they can see them when logged in). Discovered a temporary workaround though, when it says 'review submitted' if they make an edit and re-submit it sometimes works.

I, too, am having a similar problem. I need assistance from a Google representative. Our company has been being attacked by false reviews, all from an ex-family member. This person created multiple accounts and has been making up reviews on Google, Yelp, Yahoo, etc about our company in an attempt to ruin our business. I have been able to respond to them publicly on all other sites, but whenever I go to make a response on our Google account for our business page, it won't show my response unless I am logged in. I keep flagging the false review hoping that Google will remove it, it is in violation of their terms of use (the ex-family member made up a false name on the account saying she is a "Michelle Hartmann" , and is posting a fake review in attempt to deter business from us) and we are looking to take legal action into this as well, it has cost us business and we are able to prove it. I want the false review made by our ex-family member to be removed for voilation of terms of use from Google, and I would like my response to show publicly. Hi, I posted a review 2 years ago for: Balbon, DC, QME 2460 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA.  I checked the review several month ago and it disappeared from public view. It is visible when I login to my Google account. The review has no links, just a text. I edited and re-posted it - still not visible. My other review for Dr. Bernard Recht is not visible either. It looks like both reviews are in spam. Could they be unflagged? Thanks.

I was referred to Dr. Workman by another local chiropractor for a long-term soft tissue problem. I'd had a knot between my right shoulder blade and spine ever since I began working at a computer back in the '80's. I had tried physical therapy, electrical stimulation, deep tissue massage, moist heat, stretching, and plenty of ibuprofen and acetaminophen - to no avail. Since the introduction of the Google+ search page for a Places entry in a blended search result in Maps users have been complaining about lost reviews.

Google have introduced a new spam filter for reviews.

This is my best advice with input from Jim and Joy TCs on the Google and Your Business help forum. To start with it seemed to me to be the reviewed spam was a factor but it appears to be patterns of reviews but they are probably caused by the reviewed using spammy solicitation methods in the background in a lot of cases.

1. Having the customer leave a review from an in-store workstation.
Its only safe to lave a review from a mobile device via its own data provider or at home or regular friend/families home host.

2. Receiving an unusual number of reviews in a short time


3. Posting a review from a Google+ account that has no prior or subsequent activity
Also a spammy business may not be able to leave reviews

4. Posting the same review on multiple sites


5. If the listing itself pushes the limits on the quality guidelines, then it may not be possible to leave Excellent reviews
The Excellent ban may be for the reviewers spam if its a business

6. Very long reviews


7. Reviews that appear keyword stuffed, written as ad copy


8. Reviews that include URLS (this is the only one I'm sure will trigger the spam filters).
Only mention Christian names and do not repeat the business name


9. A reviewer has left you more than one review
Its pointless asking for a second review.

10. You have Duplicate search results which are hoovering up reviews.. Search in google maps by Phone no or (business name and location). If you have re-branded, moved or changed phone no search on the old details as well. In a normal browser bar search Duplicates can be suppressed by the algorithm trying to serve up one result. You need to address the Duplicates source and then report it as a duplicate. Hopefully the reviews will re-attach later.

 

Search in a +Local Business page at the top for the company name to see Posts. Where the review has been marked as spam by google go to their Local - Your Places - # Reviews list and you will see no entry for the reviewed business. You may have to go into your Local - Your Review - # Reviews, copy the URL and cut and paste in the reviewers long number in their Page URL in a new tab.

You just have to give up hope that old spam marked reviews will come back, and not ask the reviewers to try again.

It appears that spammy businesses, say keyword stuffed rich snippets in organic search results, have lost reviews since the start of Google+. This could just be a positive correlation based on a behavior pattern.

Like Joy I can leave reviews to any user reporting these issues as I have an active +Profile.

If new individual customers with active +Profiles leave reviews then they should appear. Google have stated there is no sandbox period, the sanction is the removal of the spam reviews, in their estimation.

I have customers who post reviews for my company and they will show up for a while, but then they disappear after different time frames; however, the ones that are negative always seem to stay, but the good ones go away.  Can you shead any light on that for me?

After I posted my "Me too" comment I found the Google tech's answer.  Google's review policy is nearly verbatim as the one used by Yelp, which means unless you have a lot of reviews and a lot of contacts (i.e. bringing a lot of business to Google) you're just talking to yourself.
