I have some Duplicate contacts in my addressbook of 3000 contacts
Is their a way to find the Duplicate Contacts.

The merge facility is really a great tool, to merge two contacts together but I want to know of a utility on how to find them ... or have a Suggested Duplicate contact finder

Occasionally I will Export "All Contacts" to a .CSV file.  Using Microsoft Excel I select (highlight) all Rows and Columns containing contacts information.  I then use the following commands: Data | Filter | Advanced Filter and check the box: "Unique Records Only"  and finally click on "OK".

This leaves me with a highlighted area of contacts, none of which are exact duplicates, with the Rows containing the duplicates hidden from view.  I then use Edit | Copy, Select a new Worksheet or Workbook and Edit | Paste the filtered results.

Delete the original worksheet or workbook and save the filtered results workbook where you can locate it again.

From GMail, go to contacts, click on "All Contacts" and Select "All".  Click on "Delete Contacts".  Once you have an empty list, click on "Import", browse for your filtered contacts file and upload.  Gmail contacts now contains no exact duplicates.

The only problem with the excel method is that it only works if the records are an exact match.  If you have placed in dupes from multiple sources that have different information, you're only going to keep one record.  Not to take away from its effectiveness at eliminating exact duplicates.  It's probably one of the best methods...just as long as you're sure that your duplicates contain the exact same information.

Contact Duplicates Removal:  Found below solution.  My only problem is I don't have a "Find Duplicates" button!  I don't even see a right-side panel!!  Be gentle!;)

"Open the Contact Manager.
Click the Find duplicates button in the right-side panel.
We'll display the duplicates we've found. You can expand them by clicking the details link next to each one and uncheck any that you don't want to merge.
When you're ready, click Merge at the top of the list."
Thx!

1ragincajunscot,

You must be in the standard edition  and if you can`t find it there check your stand alone contacts  manager

Administrators can enable the contact manager by signing in to the administrative control panel, then selecting 'Add more services' and clicking '+Add it now' under 'Contacts'.

Actually I was looking for a solution and stumbled on something.  If you just do an export all and delete all then reimport all from the same file, the import process merges duplicates =)

I'm not sure if this will work, but if you are using Outlook you can purchase the add in disk dupe which allows you to remove duplicate copies of everything.

The find duplicates button is on the right side.

You might want to check out the Google Apps Market place also.

Another alternative is a new service from Scrubly http://www.scrubly.com. The service scans and removes duplicate contacts from your Gmail and Google Apps accounts. The nice thing about this service is that it gives you the option of viewing the contacts to be merged in advance and picking and choosing the info you want to merge so you have complete control over the merged data.  It also keeps a backup of your contacts.

I just bought a HTC EVO 4G, love it. to replace my stupid toy called iphone 3Gs.(which limits calendar search to one rolling year backwards !)
Getting records from mac ADDRESS BOOK to google contacts was easy, just turned on the feature in ADDRESS BOOK.
HOWEVER, I only have about 1100 records in the Mac Address Book, but  there were 9k records in google contacts (found on left side of screen in gmail online), so I exported them, which popped up a right side window offering to find and merge duplicates. Did this 5 times which reduced the 9k records to 1202 records. but on EVO 4G View, showed over 8K of them, so I just selected records on Phone in View, deselected Google, waited an hour & all was correct when I checked, so, selected the Google 1202 records in Menu/View.

I still need to find a good diet/fitness program on the EVO, and to find a way to transfer all my calendar data to the EVO (most of this is now on google calendar, but it won't update to current, and none of it updates from Google calendar to EVO 4G calendar.

anyone have an idea how to do that?

thanks, :)

For calendar sync I use nuevasync.com. It's free and works for me for syncing all my mobiles and computers iPhone4, HTC Desire, Mac SL, Win7 and LinuxMint - wirelessly. I only use nuevasync for the calendar, Google syncs contacts.
As for the diet program have a look at:

Or for choice look here:

I haven't tried them, but some are even free.
Good luck!

WOW... I found my problem and fixed it!

My thunderbird 3.1 was extremely slow on windows 7, and then my android 2.2 phone became super slow.   after weeks of research, I noticed my contacts had grown to over 10,000 contacts!!!!    every contact had multiple duplicates!

I used the Find duplicates button (log in to gmail, go to contact) and merged them down to 600 contacts!

It is taking hours from my mozilla thunderbird and android phones to sync the changes... but it appears to work a thousand times better!

I have experienced the same thing before; I suggest you can try using duplicate remover like Scrubly Duplicate Remover. This works well for me.  I assure you this will end up you’re duplication’s problem.

I recommend Clone Remover. This is program for finding duplicate files, such as photo files, music files, and image files. It has the following ways to search for duplicate files: search by content, search by properties, files with a zero size.
