Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics BrightLogic 6/8/09 6:14 AM
I changed my primary email in account settings, but the old Admin account is still showing in Analytics.  I have to remove this account as that person that manages that email should not access this data anymore.  How do you delete and old admin account? The delete button is grayed out under user manager.
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics Comodo 6/9/09 9:03 PM
Hi BrightLogic,

what is your user type? Unless your user type is "Administrator", you need to be an administrator to remove the email account by asking another administrator to change your user type.

Thanks,

Hi guys and Anna,

I too wish to remove an old admin user from our analytics account as they have moved to competing organisation! I'm an administrator for the account, yet the "delete" option is grayed out as was described in the previous posts.

Cheers,

Anthony

In Case you sent an email to my old address (which i just deleted), use the current primary associated with this account.

Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics designremedy 10/5/09 8:15 PM
Hi Everyone (former username pdg),

I think I figured out away how to delete your old administrator email address.  This is how I did it anyhow.

1. Deleted my (old) Google Account (created with old administrator email address).
2. Created a new Google account with my new email address as my login.
3. Then I created a New Google Analytics account with the New Google account.
4. Add the old administrative email address as a secondary email address (in New Google Account).
All of my websites that I managed in my old account appeared in my new Google Analytics account and my new email address was the administrator email address.
5. Then I deleted my secondary email address (my old email/administrator address) from my Google Account and my websites remained in my new Google Analytics account.
6. Deleted old administrator address from my new Google Analytics account.

And there you go!

Only downfall from deleting old Google account was I lost my Gmail account and Picasa account.  Since those were created with different email addresses then my original username I am not working with Google on getting those restored.  I can let you know if that works.  At least I have my new email address with my Google Analytics and I didn't lose any reporting from the website I managed.  I did have to recreate my monthly reports.
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics Manuel.G. 10/7/09 2:08 AM
Dear Anna

Guess, same here. I've setup the Analytics account with a temporary email from us, as the customer didn't have an own address ready by then. So, now it won't let me change the address to the final one of the customer and reports get sent with the sender's name of our internally used, temporary e-mail address.

Thanks for instructions!

I have the same problem - I'm an administrator and want to delete the old administrator but the 'delete' button is greyed out. I don't want to delete my whole account though! Please Help!
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics SeanCot 10/7/09 12:36 PM
Try logging in as the new administrator then first changing the access level of the old administrator login to Report Access Only. The remove link should be available after this change and the old e-mail login can be deleted.
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics rhoslynd 10/14/09 10:58 AM
I have this problem too.  Set up account using one email address added another as a user with Admin rights (subsequently changed to be the primary e-mail), now need to delete the first address but can't and can't change the user rights on it either.  Also have been added as a user to another website but the analytics aren't coming through to me... any help appreciated.
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics 1ArmBandit204 10/15/09 10:50 AM
For those that need someone other than Anna to help, here's the solution:

1) Edit the Administrator user you wish to remove
2) Change the user type to "View Reports Only"
3) Save Changes
4) "Remove" is now available for that user.

Kind of silly, but it works.
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics txwebdesigner 10/16/09 9:36 PM
That doesn't work for me, unfortunately. I can click on edit but the Access Type is greyed out on the next page so I can't choose "view Reports Only."
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics SeanCot 10/17/09 6:07 AM
This link addresses editing user profiles - http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en-uk&answer=55500. If you do not log in as an administrator however editing functions will be limited.
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics LJacksonduck 10/19/09 8:23 AM
Same situation here.  I've been beating my head against the wall for about a week now trying to figure this one out.

Like many other's here, I've got my Google Analytics account with two Admins, The New and the Old.  The New is good with everything as near as I can tell, but whether I'm logged into the New or Old and go to User Management, the Delete and User Type settings are greyed out for the Old Admin.

Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Thanks,
Lawrence

Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics bettyena 11/30/09 1:01 PM
Hi Anna,
I seem to have a similar problem.  A while ago I created a personal Google Account for testing purposes using my work email address. On the same time without me knowing someone at my work created a Google Account for our company using his work email address. Meanwhile that persons doens't work at our company and the task to manage our Google Account (which includes Google Analytics) came to me. I changed the email address in the original account that I set up for testing purposes to use my personal email address and changed the email address of our company account to use my work email address. But somehow the Google Analytics still uses the original email addresses that were set up and I can't change it. And I also can't delete the original admin accounts.
Please help!
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics ubutopia 11/30/09 3:32 PM
This appears to be a chronic problem.  Why doesn't Google address it?  I've spent 2 hours this afternoon trying to fix this mess.

Here's my problem, which is slightly different but probably has a similar answer:

My Analytics account was set up using a Hotmail account.  I want to share info from another Analytics user, but GA tells them that I have to have a Gmail account.  So I set up a Google account.  I then added that to my Analytics settings, but GA appears to be confused about who now has the account: at the top of the page it lists my Gmail address, but when I go to the Analytics page it still lists my Hotmail account.  The two accounts appear to be completely bound together.  I've tried just about everything.  When I go to the Analytics account and try to remove the Hotmail account, it's greyed out (as others have reported).

So even though I've been added to someone else's account as a user, I can't access the data because Analytics still sees me as non-Gmail.  Damn this is stupid and frustrating!

Help!
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics Bladerunner2150 12/1/09 1:45 PM
Same deal here, the same problem as the initial post, the first user email in my Analytics User Manager cannot be removed (all mails with reports are sent with this address as the sender), the Delete button is grayed out. The domain of this email address will not be renewed, so I would like to remove it, in case somebody else takes it and happens to create the exact same email address etc. - I don't know if this can allow them to login to my Analytics in any way, but just to make sure... I already added a second Administrator with my new email address (the one I changed my main Google Account to as well), but that doesn't seem to help me...

Anna, could you help me?

Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics redballtechnology 12/20/09 5:33 AM
It seems like a depletion of customer service out there Google.  No one to call, no one to email, no one to fix a HUGE security issue such as this one.  It looks like our only option is to stop all advertising channels using adwords, analytics, adsense accounts and find another solution with humans on the other end.  You asks us to post questions in this help forum yet they have no one helping us.  My request is now over 20 days old and nothing has been done to fix it.  Inexcusable!

Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics omen8 1/14/10 11:39 PM
HALLO ALL

I posted further up as ... drum roll here ... The-angry-1
I followed the following steps that sorted it out:

The above is mentioned here:  http://www.google.co.za/support/forum/p/Google+Analytics/thread?tid=642869e580e64165&hl=en

I thought it was risky at first but tried it out of desperation!
The truth is that you can still login into your Google Analytics even though you have deleted your Google Account - so there's no risk in losing Google Analytics websites and history.
As soon as you deleted your Google Account created with your (old) e-mail address, you will notice that the account administrator associated with the (old) e-mail address can now be deleted in your Google Analytics user manager!
Be aware that you will lose other information associated with your Google Account.

It's a jungle out there.

Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics khannam 3/23/10 2:01 AM
Same problem here - why the stoney silence from Google on this issue.  It's a major security problem - if someone who had responsibility for Analytics leaves a company but you can't delete their account, that's a problem.

It's also an issue when you can't tell who's done what to the account (e.g. annotations) because Analytics adds the default user to it, instead of the actual user.

I've been waiting for a fix for this since last summer.  Not impressed with the responsiveness of Google at all.  It's extremely bad practice to have user forums full of the same issue over and over again, with no solution.  They don't even seem to recognise they've got a problem that needs fixing.

Google - please read your forums and respond, otherwise there's no point in having them!
Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics Jack Yan 4/5/10 2:00 AM
I had hoped that we could get the solution publicly since a lot of us share this concern.

Google’s own help pages read (yes, Google, we read them before we come here): ‘Each account must have at least one user with account administrator privileges. Once you add a new administrator to the account, you can delete the original account administrator if you choose to.’

Well, you can’t, as the ‘Delete’ link is greyed out, as everyone else here has said.

Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics vlsh 4/19/10 11:58 PM
To remove the first administrator in Analytics (light gray) - I:
1. deleted the link to the AdSense account AdSense.
2. deleted everything related to AdSense on your site.
3. deleted and changed the old mailboxes in my Google - account.
4. Wherever possible, cleaned and changed to avoid the old account, which glows Analytics gray.
However, the first administrator (the first record) continues to be gray.
Delete it can not.
I have a second administrator (with all good) - but it does not help.
Questions?
- How to delete first entry? It is always gray. It is not available for deletion.
- Maybe remove your site from Google?

Waiting for an answer to the question already 3 months)))

Re: Delete Old Administrator Account In Analytics Geoff Foley 4/26/10 3:29 PM
I am having the same issue. The email address that I used to use for Analytics and AdWords no longer existed so I changed it in 'My Account' thinking that would synchronize between Analytics and AdWords but it only works for Analytics and even though I added the new email address as an admin user in the User Manager, I cannot delete the old email address as a user. It also has not synchronized with AdWords, even though when I log in, Adwords appears under 'My Products' in the account page.

Anyone want to bet that Google will ignore this and not solve this in the first year (i.e. before August 2010)?
