|How to avoid receiving news in a foreign language (Russian, Chinese, etc.)||BocaDave||5/6/12 6:31 AM|
I am trying to find a way to block foreign (non-english language) news when using Google News with Google Chrome. I really want my news only in English.
I don't want to block foreign sources, but I'm really annoyed at news that appears in Russian, Chinese, etc. on my Google News Page, co-mingled with English language news.
Yes, I know I can translate Russian to English, but I don't want to do that. I just want to see English language news, even if that means I don't get "all" the results and have to miss foreign language news.
It seems to me that several years ago (in prior versions of Google Chrome) I was able to do this (or perhaps I'm confusing my prior use of Firefox, which I used before I switched to Chrome).
Any ideas would be welcome.

Are you using an English language version of Google News (U.S., UK, Australia, etc.?) If so, the only content in other languages should be appearing in a special area, labeled "From (country)."

Erik, I’m using the English version of Google News. Under version it says “US Edition” (the pull down menu lets me choose from many countries, I chose US).
I use the “Classic” version, but the same problems occur with the “Modern” version.
It seems like you are telling me that Google News is supposed to have foreign language content (in that language), as long as its identified as such.
Well, the foreign content is clearly labeled "from (Country Name)" and it appears indented slightly under the other text..
So, does that mean that what I desire (English only from slected countires or US only, can't be accomplished?
