i can connect to my wifi when I reboot the router. At first attempt.
if I then disconnect and try to reconnect I can't do it until I reboot the router again.
this happens with the 5830. The galaxy s I also have always connects. No issues.

I'm experiencing similar problems with my Galaxy Ace 5830 I recently bought.
I can actually get a good and stable connection to my home WEP wifi network and
to open unprotected wifi networks too.
Problems come up at office when I try to connect to a network that requires authentication via web browser.
No matter what browser I'm using the connection fails most of the time or just gets frozen after few seconds.
Looking on the web for some hints didn't get me any further.
Help is badly needed here.

I was experiencing these problems due to my Netgear router..what i did was i reset my router to original settings (as my router had upgraded itself to new software etc which i switchoff upon resetting the router)..and then it automatically connected to my router.
check whether samsung android is connecting to other routers....

i already re-flashed my firmware but still same problem.
even with strong signal, i still get network error connection most of the time.
checked my router settings but same problems.
my wife has galaxy s but no problem like me.

I have been facing wi-fi issues also in my mobile. I got it recently and after 1 week of usage the wi-fi showed "Error" when I tried to connect. I think it is an android 2.2 update issue, as far as I have read from other forums. However most of them are foreign forums and I have not been able to get a permanent solution which I can apply to my model. I did restart my mobile and the wi-fi worked fine. But I don want to go on doing that every time I face the issue. My model details are:
Device:Samsung Galaxy Pop S 5570
Android Version : 2.2.1
Build number : FROYO.DDKA7

I face the same issue with my Galaxy Ace as well, I am trying to connect it to Netgear DGN1000. Wifi disconnect after few second but my galaxy Ace still shows active connection but cannot download anything. I upgraded my DGN1000 firmware from V1.1.00.28_ww to DGN1000WW_V1.1.00.41.img and everything rocks fine.

Use WiFi driver re-installation Code *#*#526#*#*...Reinstall the firmware for Wifi.
Try it on other Routers as well
this is a common problem with Androids. as i see (seen in lot of forums people discussing Wifi problem of Androids)
My cousin bought the same Handset and he is having same problem.
If it doesn't help show it to your vendor from where you have brought it
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||4peterkh4||5/1/11 1:49 AM|
if the methods mentioned before didn't work, download this application "FXR wifi fix and repair" and try it.
one of the causes is if you are switching between packet data and wifi.
disable packet data before using wifi then turn on wifi.
if the android browser and some applications still don't get the wifi, disable wifi, connect using the packet data and browse www.google.com in the android web browser. if it opens successfully, disable packet data and enable wifi. it should work :))
btw opera mini always works with wifi even if other applications are not catching the internet.
these widgets are helpful: (download from appstore)
- APN OnOff
- WiFi OnOff

|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||jumbojet1||6/19/11 11:36 PM|
As Imendozar explained, I just changed my wi-fi router security as WPA-PSK with TKIP encyption and now my ACE connects to WI-FI
I also looked into other forums and looks like TKIP encryption suits good for ACE and it does not break the connection as some of the replies have mentioned.
I used AES encryption earlier and it used to connect briefly at the start and then used to drop the connection and then failed to reconnect again no matter what I do.

I have the same problem, 3G works fine but WiFi fails. I have a good connection, but when I want to download something, go to an internet site or any other app that needs an internet connection, it fails. I dont want to chance my internet security because that is less save and the connection is fine but down- or uploading doesn't work. I think we all need an software update. Common Samsung and Google!

Enter WEP password from underneath router.

|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||Benny Alexander||8/18/11 8:53 PM|
I had exactly the same problem. The IP assigned previously to the mobile becomes invalid - and when you connect, you should switch of wifi (forget) and the reconnect. By doing this, you get a new dynamic IP which would help your Samsung ACE to get a new IP assigned. Please note even switching off and on the mobile doesn't work. This is a strage solution, but try this.
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||rudra_biswas1||8/20/11 6:31 AM|
Not sure which one of these helped, likely all but we yeah one needs to reboot the phone properly (no hangups) to get the wi-fi working especially if you have updated the firmware using Kies. I was almost about to go to the vendor since the wifi couldn't even get the MAC address of the phone after the upgrade - that was scary !! Rebooting worked.
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||shyam_027||8/22/11 4:20 AM|
I recently bought Samsung Galaxy Ace, first I upgraded it to android 2.3.4 and except wi-fi it worked just fine. I have BSNL BB, and I tried following above mentioned suggestions for wi-fi but nothing worked so far. As many users mentioned, it is able to connect to wi-fi (ITI) but fails while we try to connect it to internet. Would appreciate if any one can help me out on this issue. Is it related to Android 2.3.4, I never tried using wifi with Android 2.2.
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||rudra_biswas1||8/22/11 11:51 AM|
I would hope that you have checked all the basics wth BSNL settings - wifi enabling & security passcode. The phone should atleast be able to pickup the network if its within the range. Try connecting thereafter from the wireless settings option of your phone.
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||shyam_027||8/22/11 9:36 PM|
Yes, I did, as I mentioned, it connects to wifi, will ask for password, once we give password (as specified in BSNL setting) it picks up IP and shows that it is connected and display the signal strength etc. But the moment we go for net browsing (or android market), it says network error. Not sure why?
And yes, rebooted many times, both router as well as the phone. Am I missing some sequence or is it Android 2.3.4 problem?
I have BSNL DNA-A211-I router, one of most popular model in India.
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||rudra_biswas1||8/23/11 1:55 AM|
If your phone is able to detect an IP & shows a signal bar then there must be an issue with the configuration settings. Whichever service provider you are using you should be able to connect to the internet in general (that's a normal gprs connection). However, to connect to the market & other in built apps like gmail etc you need what airtel/vodafone calls Mobile Office/Mobile Connect (caution, do not use both at the same time otherwise your bill would frighten you) - now that goes for connecting through your service provider.
You can try checking the Network Neighbourhood, on your computer - its likely to show your mobile device there. Hereafter, it should be the configuration settings. You can either try speaking to BSNL or your service provider to set it up. Not sure but shouldn't be an issue with Gingerbread.
BTW, 2.3.4 still not avavilable on Kies in India, right - you used the beta leak ?
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||shyam_027||8/23/11 2:34 AM|
Thanks a lot for your reply, yes I used beta leak...and to be more correct, I did not upgraded my firmware to DGN1000WW_V1.1.00.41.img. The reason is that I am not sure if I really need this, and at the same time I do not know how to do such upgrade. The support from Samsung and BSNL is just pathetic, I am now planing to take it to service center this week end. I have vodafone connection for mobile, not sure if they will be able to come for my rescue. What configuration settings you are referring to?

|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||shyam_027||8/23/11 7:47 AM|
No I am not able to see it in my network places. yes, my normal gprs connection is working, for this I click on "Use packet data", and when I switch over to WiFi, I turn it off. FYI I just left port and IP address in the "advanced" setup blank, do I need to give some things there?
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||rudra_biswas1||8/23/11 12:05 PM|
1stly for Shyam,
Your port & proxy settings are fine. I have checked my own settings to be the same, however, there's a check against my static IP address - not sure if I did manually but the phone did the configuration itself when I first used it.Hope your service centre is able to help.
Try rebooting the router & then your phone & then try to configure your wifi settings.
I would suggest that you guys upgrade/update your firmware, its available on Kies which comes along with the phone & its free & it might actually fix your problem !! Reboot phone are upgrading/updating
Also try using these apps from the market but READ THEM CAREFULLY as they might drain battery
If you are not able to connect to the market, try the same software in 4shared.com - this should be the last resort after you have exhausted all possible options & hopefully this helps.
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||shyam_027||8/23/11 8:52 PM|
First of all thanks a lot for your time. Regarding your suggestions, last night I was trying to upgrade firmware through Kies, it was saying that there is no upgrade available...not sure why. I did try using wifyfixer (in fact couple of these apps, available in the market) but no breakthrough. Regarding static IP, I tried giving same values as it is in my PC but it did not work. In the router security settings I am using WPA-PSK option with a password, in fact I tried all the security options one by one. Following are my phone details:
Android version : 2.3.4
Baseband version : S5830XXXKPH
Kernel version : 220.127.116.11-perf-CL260130se.infra@SEI-07 #1
Build number : GINGERBREAD.XXKPH
Thanks and best regards.

|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||Vaheguru||8/24/11 5:46 PM|
Try this one
problem is in the Security conf. At the begining security conf was "WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK" you should then change to "WPA-PSK" with TKIP encryption. Now WIFI connection will work just fine.
Just check your router is in TKIP encryption. The problems are only because of encription rest all is OK.
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||shyam_027||8/25/11 12:40 AM|
I am already using this (WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption) and able to connect to WiFi, but after that it is not letting me connect to Internet.
|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||rudra_biswas1||8/25/11 10:18 PM|
Even I am not able to figure out the solution to this problem. If you guys have gone through this entire section you will find there are a few possible solutions mentioned.
One is to dial #*#*526#*#* from your dialpad. Might work for Froyo but you can also try for Ginherbread.
Another said to take out the battery while the phone is off & leave it like that for atleast a minute. Then turn on your phone & try the wifi.
Have any one of you tried the market app ?

|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||JB_Photo||8/30/11 10:28 AM|
I have precisely the same problem as shyam_027 with my new phone:
Galaxy Ace GT-S5830L
Android 2.3.4 GINGERBREAD.UBKP7
Kernel version 18.104.22.168-perf-CL366939
The phone works at home, with my WPA2-PSK wifi network (after resetting my router, which initially locked up (!) after first connection attempt). However, with the public-access WiFi network at work, the phone does not work. If I manually set network type to WPA, it ping-pongs between connected and disconnected. If I use the correct setting (WPA/WPA2-PSK) I can connect (with excellent signal strength, and 65 Mbps link) and the browser does show an initial Google Mobile home page, but after that no other pages and and no download is possible.
dialing the magic code *#*#526#*#* and that shows me
"WlanTest Engineering Mode
Unloading Normal Driver and Loading Mfg Driver
Driver loading successful"
...but the problem remains. Tried removing battery while phone is on, then replacing & restart but problem remains.
Any help would be appreciated!

|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||shyam_027||8/31/11 3:53 AM|
After several hit and trials, finally it is working!!!!!, Let me explain to you what the problem was......actually there was no issue with the phone settings, but router was not configured correctly. I did not put user name and password in the router's wireless settings. It did not work even after correct router settings!!!!! Then we discovered that the antenna must be in a particular direction (this might be a very rare issue, but this was the cause of trouble in my case). After that it worked nicely. For all this I had to call a guy from BSNL, paid 250/- bucks and spent couple of hours in struggling with the various options available..... He also did reset my router to the company default values couple of times and rebooted it. Now..I have WPA-PSK in security with some password, your mobile will scan it, give the same password and it will connect and you will able to browse the net. And let me also confirm that there is no issue with the mobile and Android 2.3.4.
After this I have a new issue, the moment I boot my PC in Win-XP, it immediately connects with the network (it is no more a dial-up system) and for that I will have to "disable" the network manually every time I connect. In Windows I can manage, but my PC is on a dual boot system and in the other half I have Ubuntu, I do not know how do I disable network there, it remains on even if I do not need it.
Thanks for all those who tried to help me out.

Solution for wi-fi not working. pull out the battery and fix it back in. restart the mobile. It should solve the problem. Click on wi-fi it discovers all active connections. Hope it helps

I TRIED rebooting on both sides, switching between different networks, changing ip and dns settings, etc. BUT none of them helped.
WHEN i took my galaxy ace next to my wireless router for perfect signal strength, it was very likely to provide BETTER connection and browsing experience. i think the problem is all about poor wifi hardware of galaxy ace.
just give it a try and you'll see
btw i know this is not a solution but it may help in finding the reason.

If you are used to entering your network settings blindly, check if you are doing it in the correct order. I tripped on this, because the fields in android settings weren't in the same order as they are in windows/linux. This was the *problem* in my samsung ace

After updating my Galaxy Ace to Gingerbread 2.3.3" I have a problem only with a specific router", the Novatel Wireless 2352 mobile router, aka MIFI. Using the previous firmware, Froyo 2.2, all wal fine.
I have done many attempts:
- changed all settings I can on MIFI: security mode (also none), but the router doesn't have many settings to change.
- tested MIFI with other 5 clients devices(pc, netbooks, ecc): success, only smartphone fails;
- tested Galaxy Ace with other 5 routers: success, only MIFI fails;
- another Galaxy Ace with Gingerbread 2.3.3 has same problem.
- So, seems there is a "new" incompatibility with some routers introducted in new firmware.
Now I will investigate to replicate this issue in some more configurable router.
The problem are that either some routers are not configurable, and also I don't know to check/verify very advanced settings in Android devices. Repeat: using Froyo all was fine.

I have bought samsung galaxy ace two days before. Please anyone help me for the issue:
I am not able to receive any calls or SMS when i am using internet connect. Please anyone help me how to avoid this issue.
1. Why we are buying smart phones with 3G?
Answer will be like: We can use internet connection as well as calls and fast access of all applications.
But here the problem i facing with galaxy ace is when i am using internet connect with 2g on android 2.3.4(ginger bird). I am not able receive any calls or messages. Earlier i have used NOKIA and micromax mobiles. Even if i use internet also i am able to receive calls. Even the small company micromax is good with this. Why samsung is not concentrated on this. Is there any settings or any option is have this facility. Please help me ASAP.
I there is no way to get calls when we are coneected to internet then dont buy this phone. Instead of this we can use one phone and TAB.

|Re: Samsung Android Galaxy Ace S-5830 not able to connect to Wifi network||pepicasas||11/15/11 8:28 PM|
Guys. Here's something else I found out which many of you don't know.
Out of the 2 basic types of Wifi signal (Ad-hoc mode and Infrastructure mode), Android made the terrible mistake of creating the OS for all of our phones to ONLY access Infrastructure mode Wifi signals!
Maybe you're all having trouble accessing other wifi signals because they are in Ad Hoc mode.
You phones or tablets will never be able to pick up or access any Ad Hoc signal - even if the signal is the strongest available signal in your area.
Here's the sad story, Iphones and Nokia phones can easily access both types of wifi signals!
I also found out that in order to be able to be at par with Iphones in accessing both types of signals, you have to tweak your Android device by rooting it and changing some files in the /system/bin folder. This is only safe to do if you're a techy and this limits the customer base of Android greatly.
I made a futile attempt to change/edit the file in the /system/bin folder called "wpa_supplicant" but the replacement file I downloaded from the forums does not work on my Galaxy S2. Besides, why am I required to go through all this fuss? Why can't this basic "must-have" feature be already built-in on all Android devices???
I love the Android platform but this recent discovery makes me see that it has much to improve in terms of its user friendliness.

is anyone with this problem suspecting it is google finger banging the phone? the only problem i have with connecting to wifi is at my home, where i get no reception. my suspicion is that the wifi networks that have problems connecting are due to the cell signal not being able to connect to the carrier (ie relay secret info to google, circumventing the internet connection). For example, why in Andriod would i have to log in to a google account to use some of the apps, that at basic level, really should be stand alone apps.
This is really big brother in its infancy, which i really dont care, due to not divulging any info that i dont care about while using my phone, but maybe low level source coders can provide some input into this theory. Why does google log in come up for a bunch of stuff, even contact manipulation.
i am just trying to figure out if i am going to keep this galaxy ace or send it back before i have to pay for it and it doesn't connect to my home network, tried a bunch of stuff, changing protocol to wpk, wep open, etc. it just sees the connection, disconnects, and scans and disconnects in a terminal embrace.
any input, suspect or confirmed would be greatly appreciates.

Quillet's recommendation to put MAC address in the trusted device setting of the router worked immediately for me. please disregard previous post above.

I had this problem with one of three of our Galaxy media players. The first two connected no problem the third one did the same as described above. I found that my wireless router by default only assigns up to 10 IP addressess. After the second Galaxy player I was at my limit and would not assign an IP address to my third. I freed up one of the IP addressess and it connected perfectly. Hope this helps some of you.

Hey guys, I was trying for hours and hours to figure this out and I finally found an easy solution that worked for me. I had tried everything on this forum but nothing seemed to work for me. so then I noticed on my router that the security was wpa2-personel. So I decided that I would try changing that. the solution is to CHANGE THE ROUTER SECURITY TO WEP WITH TKIP ENCRIPTION. After this I have been having no problems with my wifi. So, to do this you need to be able to access your routers settings. Mine is a D-Link. So to get into the router settings I needed to just type my ip adress into the google browser with http:// in front of it and then I was in! To find that out I had just called D-Link. So the overall solution to this is to change the router settings to WEP with tkip encryption (which is usually just defalt with WEP so dont worry about that). to do that just call your router company and they will help you through it!!! I hope this helps.

The Mac Address filtering was enabled in my case that was why my phone couldn't connect to the router ( for those using BSNL WiFi Heres A quick Guide to set up mac address, for android just go to wifi setting and look in advanced, you will see the mac address, or just disable it..) http://broadbandforum.in/bsnl-broadband/61886-bsnl-vmc-an1020-21-detailed/

Even i have same issue. This issue is with dhcp setup in your mobile.
Please assign manual ip address including gateway and DNS. Dont forget to save.
Immediately it connects.
I use BSNL broadband.

I'll keep this simple, for people like me who glaze over when the conversations turn to IP addresses, TKIP, WEP, WAP, DNS and the like.
I have had a Galaxy Ace for 2 weeks and have spent all of it trying to fix this Wifi problem. I have been into every phone shop and nobody has ever heard of this problem. I phoned Samsung and they couldn't help either. Virgin even changed my phone despite me being convinced it was not a problem with the phone. My laptop does not have the same problem, just the phone.
I have tried all the fixes in this forum, except the really technical ones, and nothing works.
I have bought a new router today and IT HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM.
My old router was a Netgear DG834Gv5, my new one is a Netgear DGN2200. I can't give you the technical reason for this, but I assume it's something to do with the extra 'N'. I'm not a Netgear salesman, and I assume that a more modern router from any company will work.
Hope that works for you.

I also had a problem connecting my Samsung Ace mobile phone to my Wi-Fi until I remembered that I set up my Wireless router not to let any device use it unless it has been told to do so. So, I logged on to my router and set it up to allow my mobile phone to connect to it. You will probably have to provide your router with your phone's wi-fi mac address. To get your phone's wi-fi mac address do the following:
1. Select 'Settings', then
2. Select 'About phone', then
3. Select 'Status', then
4. Scroll down to Wi-Fi MAC address and there you have it. It is made up of 6 hex numbers separated with colons; for example, it will look something like this AB:2F:32:3D:02:E1.
I hope this helps.

I have the same problem as everyone else
I think that samsung/google are gonna have to fix it.
I don't think there is a way to fix it ourselves.

If you guys are using really long copy-pasted passwords, try temporally setting something simple to write quickly and check if it works. Surprisingly that solved my problem. Maybe it was a typo, since the password was so long and full of non-alphanumeric symbols, in which case I apologize.

You will also need to setup an assigned static ip on your router. find the mac address of your phone in connected devices on your router, or add new mac address (you can find your phones mac address under settings- wifi-advanced. Then on your router assign that mac address a static ip out of your address pool, reboot phone. Worked a treat for me. No more "not in range" nonsense. HTH

Just had an issue, found this page, solution worked. Activated all data transmission types and then disabled them, then connected by turning on wi-fi in the settings menu rather than the drop down menu. Handy tip for future reference. Thanks, that guy!

Mine was having this weird issue with the TP-Link router channel.
I just changed from channel 12 to 11 and it worked again, which is definitely a problem with the frequency of the setup.
Even though the router is to blame, since its own signal was loosing strength, the laptops at home would work OK and also my wife's ACE would work OK, just mine's wouldn't.
This problem happened after I have travelled, so some abroad wifi connection left some unwanted marks in the already poor ACE wifi internal setup.
Just for tracking, my router is a TP-Link WR740N v2 router with WPA-PSK/AEC password.
