|Can't find Google Talk on my Nexus 7 or in Android Play||Chris Heyde||10/12/12 9:46 AM|
Problem Description: I have had and loved my Nexus 7 from day 1, but for some reason I am now unable to find my Google Talk app. It isn't under Google Talk or Talk and I can't even get it to come up on the Google Play store. I have been searching all over Google to see if I can find a solution, but no luck. It can't be a carrier problem since I bought this from Google. The app is on my phone, but when I went to the apps for my phone on Google Play it isn't showing up.
What am I missing? I do see Google+ Messenger, but I am not opening up Google+ again. Blah.
I can find a 3rd party app like IMO (really want to uninstall since it freezes up daily), but I prefer the old simple GTalk.

Hi Chris. Sometimes what appears to be a separate app is really part of another app. One example is Navigation, which is part of Google Maps, not an independent application. I believe the same is true for Google Talk. I suspect Talk is part of Google Framework Services--but that is just a guess because I know that stopping Google Framework Services stops Talk.
As is the case with Navigation, I cannot find it independently but it is included in the list of all apps (which comes up via the Apps button).

Actually Deman_Nu, Chris is correct there is a separate app for Google Talk. Since it's a system app it's not available for separate download from Google Play, it's pre-installed on the Nexus 7.
If you don't see the icon for the Google Talk app on one of your home screens, tap the All Apps button (the 6 dots in a circle at the bottom of your home screen) and look for the app listed there -- it's listed as "Talk." If you see it there and would like to add a shortcut to it on one of your home screens you can find instructions here.
If you don't see it listed on the All Apps menu, it's possible that you or another user accidentally hid the app. You can check this by visiting Settings > Apps > All apps and scrolling through the list looking for the Talk app. Then tap on the app's listing and look for an Enable button at the top of the screen. Tapping Enable will re-add it to the list of all your apps.
