|On powering up my Nexus S, it enters a black screen where it warns me about unlocking the boot loader.||AndroidEH||6/22/11 6:05 PM|
The phone ran out of power. Plugged it in to recharge. After turning it back on, it entered a screen warning about unlocking the boot loader. There are no options to cancel or restart the phone. I see some screenshots online that show this screen (see the picture at http://www.redmondpie.com/unlock-nexus-s-bootloader-how-to-guide/). Some other sites show a page with a Yes/No option which is not what I have. I do not want to unlock the boot loader, and definitely don't want to reset the device. I assume I accidentally pushed the volume button while turning on the phone. How do I cancel this? Do I just power off the phone? Take out the battery? Thanks for any help!
Device: Nexus S
Country / Language: USA / English
OS / Browser / build number (if applicable): Whatever the most recent version pushed to the phone is. Bought in December 2010.

Just whip the battery out and power it on again. You probably had the volume key pressed by accident.
Pulling the battery out will not unlock the device or reset it.

I just saw this post by AndroidEH and it is EXACTLY what happened to me. At this point, my screen gives me several rebooting options. Each sounding worse than the next, but I am also concerned about taking the battery out.
I waited on the phone for over an hour with Samsung Nexus S tech support and finally had to hang up. Annoying! I could not Live Chat either, even though they boast 24/7 service. Again, annoying! Anyway, as I stated before, I am concerned about taking the battery out. I wish I could speak to someone in person before I do this so I can be fully reassured that this will cancel any careless button-pressing that I did, without losing my photos and other data. Thanks for sounding so reassuring the first time, Aaron84. Perhaps I should just go for it!?!?

It sounds like you have loaded the bootloader screen. Every Android device has this option by pressing a volume key while powering on the phone.
Just pull the battery out and load the phone up. As long as the phone isn't faulty then there won't be a problem.
I do hope you haven't been staring at the bootloader screen for weeks on end...
