|Privacy: Google+ Automatically Added a New Gmail Recipient to my Family Circle||LoveNewEngland||8/8/12 7:35 PM|
My wife created a Gmail account yesterday. I sent her an e-mail from my Gmail account to her new Gmail account. In my Gmail account, I did not change the default Gmail setting for adding recipients to my Other Contacts list.
Today she received an e-mail in her Gmail account and the subject was "Michael [my name] has added you on Google+".
The email continued to read: Follow and share with Michael by adding him to a circle. Don't know this person? You don't have to add them back (they'll just see the stuff you share publicly).
In addition, a number of my Google+ contacts were displayed in the e-mail under the header: "People you might know under Michael's circles. View all>> "
PROBLEM: There is certainly no issue with having my wife in any of my Google+ circles. The primary issue is about privacy since I have not logged into Google+ for more than 6 weeks! I never added my wife to my Family circle. Google took this action (and shared contacts) without my permission! How (and Why) did this happen? I have since disable the auto-add contacts in Gmail, however adding people on Google+ without my knowledge, and sending them e-mail of an action I did not take, is not acceptable. How can this be disabled and to whom can I send a formal complaint about a breach in privacy?
Any help understanding and/or addressing this would be greatly appreciated.

G+ is also now sending out emails to folks in my circles whenever I share a photo with "my contacts." It's a horrible form of spam that is forcing me to stop using G+. I know it's not the same as the privacy issue you mentioned, however I bet Google is desperate to get more folks to use the service so they've taken the brakes off all privacy and spam filters in order to sucker, I mean lure, more people into using the service.

Hi LoveNewEngland, I'm following up with our Gmail team to look into this further. When you sent an email to your wife at her new Gmail address, did you add her new address to your Google contacts or your address book? Did you recall if you saw any suggestions in Gmail about adding your wife to your Google+ circles? Thanks.
