Not something we've seen at all in GE, yet, IIRC!
Brilliant find, Delta!

It is rare enough to find a U-2 on the ground.
Congratulations on this very impressive find!

Most excellent!! The only ones we've seen in flight were the ones around Beale AFB in California. But you might expect to find one there. I found these old images from Beale in my pictures archives. There was a discussion about whether it was the same plane or not rephotographed at two different positions or two planes practicing landing patterns.
This guy is high enough not to produce a shadow. I guess he could be anywhere up to about 70,000' high.

You can see exhaust gases from the engines--does this imply its at low level ? if so--is it on finals ?

WOW Delta, this is brilliant. Having spent weeks writing about the U-2 incident, this is especially meaningful to me.
Great find - you are a mega-star

It's often possible to make a fair guess at the imagery dates from the DigitalGlobe Coverage section of the layers.
But in this case I'm just as confused when I finished as when I started...

Err....follow the line of flight.
Straight to Ali Al Salem air base (hosting C-130s so has hangers big enough to hide it, so it looks like it is on final approach.
If you look carefully, the black outline IS the shadow and up to the right is a partial image of the plane, including the exhaust trail.

It seems to be really gone now; I don't see it on the timeline. @Delta, what do you mean, "I've moved it"?
|Re: U-2 Spy plane in flight over Kuwait||Noisette||2/13/10 11:14 AM|
You're right, it's really gone now . I'll archive the post.
Im sure our Delta is perfectly capable of moving a U2 . However, in this case he meant that he had moved the post to the historical imagery forum since the image was no longer in the default imagery.
