|QR Code For KML not opening in IPhone, but Android Yes||davempt||9/16/11 12:14 PM|
I have a KML file located on our server:
The link to this file can be opened by both Android and IPhone I have been testing it on. Clicking the link on the Androids screen gives you the option to open the file in Google Maps or Google Earth(if installed). Clicking the link on the IPhone gives the option to only open in GE(why not GM?).
I have converted the above KML link to QR code and found it works perfectly on the Android but not at all on the IPhone. Any suggestions why? Note other QR codes for websites seem to work fine on the IPhone.

Can you host an image of the QR code and share a link here? We'd be curious to test ourselves.

Hi Mark, Thanks for your response. Below is a link to the Apple forum where I have posted the same question with no success. On that forum is an image of the QR code in question(yes we have tried other hosted KML files with the same result, Android works iPhone does not). The link to the URL in question is: http://www.multiuse.org/mobile2.kml On the iPhone web browser we can open the above link in GE but not when converted to QR code it cannot. I have taken it to an Apple Genius and also spoken to Apple support with no leads. The iPhone in question is a iPhone 4 with Verizon, the Android is Droid 3. Thanks, Dave

We looked into this a bit more and it seems that the problem is that iOS doesn't support MIME types . So ultimately, this is an issue that the Apple team will have to address in order to enable Google Earth launching when linking to KML files via a QR code. We'll do our best to advocate for it!

Thank you Mark,
Glad to know, hopefully Apple will be updating with the new IOS.
