Updates to the Google Docs app for Android Teresa C. 2/1/12 12:48 PM Today we've launched a new version of our Google Docs app on Android, which includes offline access and a new tablet experience.  Let me know: What are the main things you do on the Docs Android app? What's the #1 thing you would you like to do that
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android Alan E Pierson 2/2/12 1:04 PM Thanks for the good news, Teresa!I've got a lot of my life in Google Docs and spent a lot of time offline, so this new offline-access update is really welcome. A few things:  1. I wish there was an option to sync docs even when on 3G: I'm often away
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android soumes 2/4/12 9:41 AM HiI don't see any chart in my spreadsheet in android(2.3) phone although the same document if I open in computer it shows fine in the browser.
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android Sention 2/4/12 12:19 PM Teresa,Thanks for the update. I agree with a lot of people that full featured editing of Google Docs on Android Tablets and Phones is greatly needed. I won't buy an Android tablet without being able to full edit my spreadsheets. I don't understand wh
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android dziegman 2/4/12 12:25 PM @Josh Can't you force your tablet into desktop mode and view?  Does that work?  (it's at the bottom of the page in your browser, not in the App). Hope this helps! dziegman
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android Sention 2/4/12 12:33 PM I will try it, thanks.
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android Sention 2/5/12 7:18 AM @dziegman, actually I tried going to desktop mode on a store demo tablet and it said my browser didn't support something :-(  The android browser is missing something.
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android dziegman 2/5/12 12:54 PM Might not have had flash installed...  (that's an app), or it may have been the browser itself.  I would have assumed it would have worked on a tablet.  I'll try to get someone to verify my hunch.  I don't have one to test on, so I really don't know!
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android AnaLikesLattes 2/6/12 6:54 AM Hi Soumes, Yes, this is currently a known limitation of our spreadsheets viewer at the moment, and we're actively working on a better viewing and editing experience for spreadsheets on your Android device :-) Feel free to let me know if you have any
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android AnaLikesLattes 2/6/12 7:01 AM Hi Josh, Which browser are you using -- is it the default one in your Android device? Also, what is your device model number and Android version? (Go to about phone/tablet in your Settings to find these details.) Thanks!Ana
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android zjy2 2/6/12 8:36 AM I definitely appreciate the regular updates: offline access makes a real difference.  I would, however, emphasize (as so many others have done) the need for an Android app that mirrors more closely the functionality of the web service. Like Josh.H, I
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android Sention 2/6/12 7:27 PM Ana,I don't own an Android tablet. I was testing a Galaxy Tab (don't remember which one) at the Sprint store. I was able to get the Android default browser on the Galaxy Tab to display the full featured desktop mode but it was sluggish and unusable.
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android ultimate_ed 2/9/12 6:05 PM One of the main things I do with it is create and use a shopping list.  It's a handy thing to survey my fridge and pantry to jot down items, and then have it on my phone as I go down the aisles.  I know there are dedicating shopping apps, but I like
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android jasongg 2/12/12 8:59 PM Seconded, the predictive keyboard on ICS is great, missing it makes Google docs a pain to type into. Why turn it off??
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android BSleys 2/14/12 12:27 PM I know this is a few days old but AFAIK there is NO Android browser that supports desktop mode for Google Docs.  I've tried them all on multiple devices, the built in one, Dolphin, Firefox, and even Chrome Beta.  They all have one problem or another
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android phronesis 2/15/12 6:56 AM I would really like the ability to add comments.  This is one of the primary ways I use google.docs and not having this option on my tablet really undermines the usefulness of google.docs
Updates to the Google Docs app for Android TimJohn 2/17/12 3:02 PM I have a number of spreadsheets and all I ask is the addition  of the South African currency (R) to the list. In fact, last time I looked there were no African currencies at all! Is this a form off racism?
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android Daniel in TN 2/19/12 1:20 PM Thanks for asking Teresa.  The main thing I would like at this point is the ability to copy or cut text within a Google document, & paste it within another location of the same document.  I've seen Google sites implying that this is possible, but it
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android H2Osamurai 2/22/12 7:14 PM Teresa, I like Google Docs, and there are few, if any, features I can think of that I can't get through the mobile app.  With one exception:  the ability to edit off-line.  This is an absolute deal-breaker.  While the ability to read a doc offline is
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android rmettier 2/22/12 8:58 PM Thanks for the offline support, that's a really nice feature to have. However, the enhanced editing seems, to me, to have caused more problems than it fixed. Maybe it's just due to my stupidity, but I'm having a ton of problems with it: 1. Documents
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android Teresa, Community Manager 2/23/12 8:12 AM Hey rmettier, Lots of great feedback here, and I appreciate the detail. I'll pass your post along to the rest of the team - keep it coming, and thanks for sharing! Teresa
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android Alan E Pierson 2/23/12 8:30 AM Yes -- I feel similarly to Rob. I'm really happy to see the new Android app update which is a real step forward. Offline editing is the thing that would change Google Docs from something I use for a few collaborative projects (where the collaborative
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android rmettier 2/27/12 1:55 AM Just a small follow-up: I finally got around to testing the new Docs on my Android 4.0.3 tablet (Transformer Prime). I noticed that the whole issue is solved perfectly there. Upon tapping the filename, it opens up in the web view. another tap on the
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android ArthurB 2/27/12 3:16 AM #1 thing I'd like to do? How about typing capital letters? Ever since the app updated, when editing Docs the app no longer respects the use of the Shift and Fn keys. (I am using an HTC ChaCha, which has a hardware keyboard - using a touchscreen keybo
Re: Updates to the Google Docs app for Android AnaLikesLattes 2/29/12 9:03 AM Hi Ed, With the new native editor for Google documents on your Android app, you should see predictive words as you type. They'll be consistent with predictive words shown elsewhere in your device since we're leveraging the same keyboard. Let me know
