Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem mnhicks 4/28/12 11:34 AM Hi. My friend and I each use the Gtalk client to chat. Recently, whenever either one of us attempts to transfer a file, the transfer does not work; the sender gets a message saying the receiver declined, the receiver gets a message to say the sender

Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KatherineG 4/30/12 2:19 PM Hey +mnhicks, We are turning off support for file sharing in Google Talk. We encourage users to use the cloud-based file sharing tools such as Google Drive for a secure file-sharing experience.  Thank you for your understanding and support of this f
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem trickycoolj 4/30/12 10:28 PM Hi Katherine, Was this announced anywhere officially on the Google Talk pages??  I've been trying like crazy to send pics back and forth with two separate people lately getting the same issues.  The only thing I changed with my setup was that I got
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem EtienneT 5/1/12 12:03 PM We use google talk a lot and we use the file transfer a lot also...  Why would you disable a feature that worked great for so many years?  I got Google Drive, but I don`t want to use it because of the ridiculous privacy policy.  I am relating to this
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem ankh.le 5/1/12 6:44 PM SAME PROBLEM My elderly father and I have been going NUTS because I haven't found this help topic anywhere.  File sharing stopped working after April 23rd, and we've been going crazy trying to diagnose the issue.
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem sunnylau 5/2/12 6:15 AM yes i think this function is awesome and it is very disappointing that google removes this function away, i have been crazy to reinstall and find different methods to try the file transfer function work or not, or i think it is the problem of my comp
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem EtienneT 5/2/12 6:59 AM KatherineG this is not a feature if you are removing functionnality already there...
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem ankh.le 5/2/12 7:04 AM Are you saying that google consciously removed this functionality?
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem EtienneT 5/2/12 7:11 AM Indeed they are, to quote KatherineG:
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem interestedparty2 5/2/12 10:14 AM Like I imagine a lot of your users out here, I have spent a bit of time trying to figure out what suddenly went wrong with this. I know it's beta, free, and so on, but really, don't you Google could manage a sensible error message along the lines of
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem ankh.le 5/2/12 10:19 AM Hear hear My guess is they wanted it to be stealth so it wouldn't get a lot of attention.  Maybe that's why they also closed the google talk support forum: http://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!forum/talk
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem trickycoolj 5/2/12 10:34 AM We need to be louder and make sure this thread stays on their radar. No doubt Google's alterior motive is to dump the desktop Google Talk application because it doesn't generate ad revenue in a browser window. Lord help Google if they lose a few doll
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem EtienneT 5/2/12 10:41 AM I alreay posted a link to kateherineG comment on twitter to various tech news sites.
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem trickycoolj 5/2/12 11:00 AM That's great!!  Keep us posted if any of the tech sites pick it up!  I just noticed she also posted last week that they've disabled the mobile web app for GTalk and have redirected Android users to use the GTalk app and iPhone users to use "the many
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem TSRapp 5/2/12 7:42 PM This disappoints me greatly.  I used to love Google Talk, and this was one of my favorite features.  I really hope you'll reconsider.
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem Laney1025 5/2/12 8:35 PM Uh...sorry.  No cloud for me.  If Google continues to take away all the things that users like, how long do you think it will take for users to find alternatives?  Not real happy that Google decides to simply shut down functionality without any commu
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem rlsmith46 5/3/12 2:00 PM no file transfer,  no advance notice of turning it off.chaos, inability to get voice talk working for weeks, shutting off the Talk forum.... Well, I guess I'll just use Skype instead for all these functions.  I'm not happy about that, but the lack of
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem smehlert 5/3/12 2:05 PM why not provide a utility that automatically puts the file that is being transferred into the Google Drive?
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem smehlert 5/3/12 2:06 PM I was going to attach a file but I needed to uploaded to my Google drive first…
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem AhMacle 5/3/12 10:17 PM Extremely disappointing. The simple and reliable file transfer function is what made me switch from MSN messenger to Google Talk. I convinced my closest friends all to switch to google talk for easy file transfers. I've found it to be a faster and ea

Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KatherineG 5/4/12 1:28 PM Hey all, I am definitely understanding of your frustration.  While I can't comment much more than what I provided above, do know that I've passed on your comments to our team.  This is valuable feedback in terms of product functionality and the proce
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KeithR 5/6/12 2:06 AM The Google Privacy Policy, particularly as it would apply to Google Drive, was criticised by @EtienneT above.  This article by a technical writer might allay your concerns as to how Google might use your data.  While I too was concerned by the paragr
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem rlsmith46 5/6/12 10:00 AM For me ( and I would think most people) it is a question of ease of use of the GUI. If I'm already chatting with a person and want to send him a file, Talk had an interface that directly corresponded to that action.  Click a button, send that person
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem sunnylau 5/6/12 10:04 AM wow, just wanna share a great news to all of you,I have just tried file transfer function of gtalk and now it works again!thanks google listening to us!!!!
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KeithR 5/6/12 3:47 PM @sunnylau, it would be great if your interpretation is correct, but I don't want to encourage you to have false hopes.  The statement from Google employee KatherineG above says "We are turning off support for file sharing in Google Talk.".  That mean
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem trickycoolj 5/6/12 4:02 PM Just tried it with a friend whom I could not transfer with last week.  Worked like a charm!  Glad to have the functionality back.  Hopefully in the future if there are planned changes, users would be notified through a pushed update of the software,
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem ankh.le 5/6/12 4:04 PM I disagree.  I lost functionality around April 23rd, then suddenly regained it today.
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KeithR 5/6/12 10:45 PM @ankh.le, what exactly are you disagreeing with?
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem ankh.le 5/6/12 10:47 PM your interpretation of their statement.  They did in fact switch it off.
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KeithR 5/6/12 11:22 PM There is only one possible interpretation of this statement (my emphasis)... Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KatherineG 5/23/12 10:57 AM Hey all, This feature should not be accessible and we do encourage seeking another method for file-sharing.  At this time I do not have any further information aside from my original comments Keith provided above. Thank you for your understanding. Ka
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem Stephanie Daugherty 6/8/12 2:34 AM This is really disappointing news, and along with other things I'm seeing, looks like google's moving away from standards and more towards microsoft's embrace, extend, and replace mindset. Not a direction I want to see, and it's a trend that makes me

Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem Hyarion 6/24/12 1:06 PM This is a seriously bad choice/design and lack of explanation does not help matters. Suggesting that we use google drive to share files is far from being a useful alternative, which means google chat has dropped it's usability considerably.  I commun
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KeithR 6/24/12 8:57 PM I agree and I've forwarded your message to the Google Chat team to make sure they see your feedback.
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem rlsmith46 6/25/12 8:16 AM Very well summarized.  I agree with your opinion completely.Without file transfer, it will be better to find another chat client for daily use.
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KeithR 6/25/12 5:35 PM Hi All, if you do find another chat client that will do file transfer easily, please let me know so that I can use it to lever Google.
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem TSRapp 6/25/12 5:37 PM MSN Messenger (Windows Live Chat) does.

Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem rlsmith46 6/25/12 9:57 PM Skype also has an easy file transfer.
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem sunnylau 6/26/12 3:58 AM yes MSN and Skype also provide P2P file sending/receiving function, but both of them have disadvantages over Googletalk: MSN: cannot send more than 3 files at the same timecannot send in terms of folders Skype:need to send and click accept for each f
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem KeithR 6/26/12 10:36 PM Google employee KatherineG stated in some other threads* that new things are on the way for Chat.  Google are not likely to make other changes while an update is on the way.  I recognise that the disappearance of the file transfer is very inconvenien
Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem NickPM 7/10/12 7:51 AM Agree entirely. This is so far beyond annoying that I have just uninstalled the client. When will these orgs learn?  Cisco just caught a real cold by forcing an unwanted software update on some of its Linksys router customers and are now back peddali

Re: Gtalk file transfer withdrew / declined problem stickbender 8/19/12 1:45 PM This is unacceptable! The MAIN thing that makes GTalk shine, is the ability to drag a photo/picture to it, and have a thumbnail show up for both users giving a quick look at something, with an option to transfer entire file if desired, which is norma
