I am having an issue with youtube playback at higher than 360p between times of 5pm EST and 2am. During those times, 480p+ has to buffer a lot to be able to play, any other timeframe I can stream 720p and only have to buffer at 1080p. I'm using a 5Mbit connection via Wightman Telecom based in Clifford Ontario (I'm in Walkerton). This issue only started on December 22, 2011, before then I could stream at 720p no problem at any time during the day. When my connection issues start each day, I check my router and it tells me that youtube is only using at max 1Mbit of my connections downlink, never any higher. Torrent, Web Browser and any other application is capable of using the other 4-5 Mbit of the connection during this time, it is only Youtube that has the issue. I have contacted my ISP, but they have been unable to find a cause to the issue as they do not believe it is on their end, and that it must be an issue with the YouTube servers. They had me try different routers, and modems, but that did not solve the issue. I have tried various tracert's to various youtube server ip addresses that I have found via various support threads (can't find the ip addresses right now but each tracert never had a hop higher than 300ms) The issue occurs on all videos on youtube, no specific video causes me any more, or less issues. I am using - Chrome 18.0.1025.152 m (Main browser) - Flash 11.2.202.229 - Firefox 10.0.2 (Secondary browser, same issue) - Opted into HTML5 for some time, but it keeps opting me out of HTML5 automatically but the issue occurs in both HTML5 and Flash videos. |
