Well well well. Compared to other people here... the inconvenience and distressed caused to me is smaller. However the principle of what Google are doing here is just f ing wrong! Simple as that. However they dress it up as 'security' or 'upgrade', the fact is there is no choice in the matter. I cannot upload to my Youtube account without changing the email address in my account prefs.

I see it as my right to CHOOSE which email address I use for which account. This is how I've been able to control spam so well over the years and Google are in a position where they feel it necessary to abuse my rights as a user. In essence, they are forcing me to disclose personal information and I see that as WRONG... regardless of whether they own Youtube or not.

I sincerely hope someone (with more time and patience than me) can figure out how to escalate this to some kind of legal issue. Perhaps to a clever soul somewhere out there - a case could be made in legal terms.

For the moment I am undecided on my further action. It's despicable that the powers that be probably wont even read this thread. The least I can do is post my post and decide on further action at a later date.
