I'm not the expert you need but there are files that your browser "looks at" before they go to sites, the "hosts" file for one, and the add-on might have made a permanent change to one of those files. It can sort of "re-map" one site to go to another, and that's what this sounds like. Now, do I know where to find th host file or how to edit it? Nope.
