Last week I found myself in the same situation: after yet another 'did you mean' error and a search query that needed double quotes I went looking for alternatives and found the (sort of) answer in duckduckgo.

If google decides to make their search more configurable (perhaps offer a way to go back to the old) I might reconsider.
