I want to clarify some of the behavior you're seeing now. If you click on SafeSearch and there's no checkmark next to Filter explicit results, that SafeSearch isn't wholesale filtering your content. Instead, Google will show the most relevant results we can dig up for a query. So, if you do find that there's a query that Google isn't doing a good job of serving relevant results for, let me know, and we'll look into it.
