Hi Lynnz50,

I'm sorry to hear about your frustration with Google Instant search.  

If you choose, you can always turn off Instant search.  To the right of the big Search button on the search results page, you should see a link that says "Instant is on".  Click that link and you should see a drop down menu appear where you can select Off.  Try that and let me know if it improves your experience.
