I'm the marketing director of a small business in southern California. We manufacture and sell light box signs in the country and also export to the neighboring countries. Our name is DSA Phototech: http://lightboxes.com
Our company is small and many of our new business have been generated through PPC and organic search on Google. Thus ranking is super important to us. We have not done anything related to content farms, nor have we submitted any press release to any suspicious website or spam website.
We have done a good job at optimizing our own website, both functional and content wise. So our organic ranking for the key word: "light boxes" was No.4 -No.7 and for the key word "light box sign" was No.1.
After the panda update, our ranking for the first one was No.11 and for the 2nd one, we completely disappeared from the SERP.
As a brand manager myself, I make sure I don't do things that will put our business at risk. I noticed that our competitor has submitted their articles all over the place, especially to some "full of ads" websites which look like a trash bury land. We have never done such a thing and we hope Google can take a look at such cases to give small-to-medium businesses more attention.
