Crawling, indexing & ranking
After the recent Google algorithm update we have seen a significant (roughly 35-40%) decrease in incoming traffic overnight from Google. I know that this change was designed to address low quality content farms, but the formula doesn't seem to take smaller independent e-commerce sites into consideration or its lumping quality e-commerce sites into so called content farms.
We feel that the site has been unfairly penalized. Like others our rankings have taken a major hit after holding relatively stable SERP positions for a number of years which is devastating. Our site does not use any tactics that one would consider to be manipulative. Larger competitors have overtaken the vast majority of SERP positions overnight to dominate the industry therefore causing an environment reminiscent of anti-competitive practices. I understand that search algorithms change over time, but I have never seen this type of drastic change overnight. Any help or suggestions would be appreciative.
