Thanks Amund for explaining my problem with Picasa changing the NEF files.  Picasa gets it right for the first second then changes the settings where the NEF looks bad and can't be readjusted back to the what it looked like.  Hopefully the fix brian.rose is talking about will fix this.  Otherwise love Picasa and am just a new user and convert of it.  I still use Nikon NX for heavy duty stuff but Picasa is so nice for most things it makes life much simpler.
