Support for the latest NEF files will come with the next version of Picasa, but we're still working on it and I'll post to the forum when it's available to download. We also just updated Picasa Web with a change that should address the Server rejected error -- please let me know on that other thread if you're still seeing that error message with uploads tomorrow.
