I've also had these exact problems however the battery sign does sometimes work, it's an intermittent issue. I'm a computer science student and was using the nexus to code on in my final year project however since I can no longer load applications onto the device via USB or debug via USB due to the ICS update I'm a bit screwed. Very unhappy with this part of ICS however everything else has been fine, I've had no WiFi,GPS,NFC or Bluetooth issues as other people seem to be reporting.
