Problem w/ voice input on Blackberry 9930 -- "Try restarting Google Mobile Maps"

Thanks in advance for any help.  Brand new Blackberry Bold 9930 from Verizon.  USA. OS 7.1 

Like this new phone but cannot get VOICE INPUT to work on Google Apps or Maps.  Which seems like a deal breaker. 

Whenever I push the talk button I get "Try restarting google mobile..."   Tried rebooting, tried reinstalling.   I see old posts for this problem regarding earlier model blackberries; there must be a fix for this by now.

Any suggestions?     (Hate to return this phone but still have a few days in which I can.)
