I sent my Nexus S to Samsung UK three times and each time it was just a software 'upgrade' and failed to fix both freeze from idle and bootup issues - see my previous posts.
I escalated the issue to Samsung Customer Services and now they are offering a same product replacement - brand new with 24months warranty.
I suggest you try the same, if it is still under warranty - which it should be if you were able to send it to them for repairs.
